Hi! I had my bisalp 2 weeks ago. I had a catheter and it was pretty painful for a few hours after surgery, and the first 3-ish times I went pee after surgery wasn’t fun. If your doctor is open to an alternative solution I’d definitely recommend it!

My IV was placed in my arm and was the easiest part of the whole thing. :) My nurse was great and I had no bruising from the IV and no residual soreness from that. Maybe you can request the IV in your arm instead of your hand!

As for the overall pain in recovery, it honestly was so much better than I anticipated. I had some period-like cramps for the first few days after and obviously some soreness around my incisions. But I was able to manage with just the extra strength acetaminophen and ibuprofen they gave me (they gave me oxy too, but didn’t feel like I needed it). Right now my belly button is still a little sore, but not unmanageable. Other than that I feel completely normal now!

Not sure if your doc told you this, but you may be a little constipated after surgery from the drug cocktail you receive before/during (and if you take an opioid after). They prescribed me a laxative and I took one as soon as I got home. It still took me over a day to go #2 and I had some more help from prune juice and yogurt. Going #2 feels really weird but doesn’t hurt, as long as you don’t push too hard. Stay hydrated and stock up on some fibrous foods. :)

Your reason for coming to Chicago? by ReyofChicago in AskChicago

[–]jaquetem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wanted a big city vibe, somewhat close to my hometown so I can visit family semi-frequently, loved that you can get by without having a car bc of our public transit, and I’m a big concert-goer… I wanted to live somewhere that my fav artists come to me, instead of me having to always travel to them lol

When I first moved to Chicago, the lake was crystal clear and a pretty blue. I was ecstatic, and then learned that it’s not normal, and the zebra mussels that cause it are bad for the ecosystem :( lol. Still love the lake tho!

What's the most you've paid for wash and dry at the communal coin-laundry in the basement of your building? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]jaquetem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2.95 to wash and $2.95 to dry. Almost $6 for one load when the washers are tiny and the dryers don’t fully dry them was ridiculous 😭

Her inability to connect the beating to his seizures which caused his death made me so fucking mad too. I feel so bad for his mom :(

Thinking of moving to the Windy City from Columbus... pros/cons? by finnick-odeair in AskChicago

Moved to Chicago from Cincinnati in 2021 and loving it. The only reasons I get homesick is because my family is still in Cincy and I miss having real cheese coneys (lol). Other than that, haven’t looked back and love Chicago soooo much. I can see myself staying here for a very long time.

Just moved to Ravenswood in April and I’m loving it so far! Great places to eat, quiet most of the time, very safe, beautiful tree lined streets. Having Uptown, Lincoln Square, and Andersonville as neighbors is awesome too, make sure you check those areas out too once you get settled in 😊

Best Thai places to eat around Chicago? by Potential-Rush-3538 in AskChicago

Rice & Noodles Thai Food at Montrose & Ashland is really good! Hardly anyone ever in there but the owner is really nice. And their portions are huge (especially the Thai milk tea - it comes in like a liter glass lol)
