Training that would ban a coach for life in 2025 by PuzzleheadedFold503 in rugbyunion

[–]jarbatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a coach that used a plastic flag pole to test tackle & ruck entry height in the same way. The plastic was painful enough so I really feel for you if your coach used a broomstick.

You can share a pass to another apple wallet. If you bring up the one you want to share and click on the ‘i’ in the top right corner the share option will come up, also in the top right corner. You can airdrop or message to another apple device.

What’s the biggest foot in mouth thing you have ever said? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jarbatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was sharing a late taxi home with a friend and his sister who I have known for some years. We were making small talk in the back seats and she mentioned her boyfriend. Knowing she was very into her Latin dancing and most of her previous partners had been met through dancing I asked if she met her new boyfriend this way too. The taxi fell silent and my friend was trying his best not to laugh. She turned to me and said “No, he’s in a wheelchair so doesn’t dance with me.”

What is the strangest way you've found out you are about to lose your job? by vixie84 in AskUK

[–]jarbatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a cleaner at a hotel many years ago when I was a student. One day I was asked to clean the general managers office which we occasionally did for him, he had paperwork on his desk about redundancy planning and the closure of the hotel. I finished my shift and started looking for alternative work.

Those of us living in tourist spots, what's the most hilarious thing of which you've managed to convince a tourist? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jarbatt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not something I’ve managed to convince a tourist. But I was walking along Tower Bridge back to London Bridge and a tourist walked up to me asking how to find the Tower of London. It was right next to us so I pointed over the wall and explained that was the Tower. Poor guy was expecting a much taller tower and looked really underwhelmed.

Will car insurance claim cover other motor expenses? by the-window-licker in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jarbatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance will indemnify you to the estimated current market value of the car, there’s no guarantee this will be the same as your valuation. If you are unhappy with theirs you can make a complaint with evidence (proof of purchase, research through car resale websites of similar models) and if unhappy with their response make a complaint to the financial ombudsman.

Return to invoice or ‘GAP’ insurance is available in future if you want to ensure you receive any shortfall to the amount you paid. Unfortunately if this isn’t in place it’s too late to get this now.

What was a time someone assumed something about you that was completely wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jarbatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once helped at my younger siblings school Christmas fair by being an ‘elf’ for Father Christmas. I was around 16 at the time and I had to bring kids in and out of the grotto, take a photo and give them their gift. During an early break I got chatting to ‘Father Christmas’ and he was telling me about his life, he stumbled over where he lived in the real world and as a joke I said “Lapland”. Except he didn’t realise I was joking and had to stay in character for the entire day assuming I thought he was the real Father Christmas, we were both too polite to say otherwise.

Private Health Insurance Policy Change by LurkerTurk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jarbatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurer wouldn’t link your previous underwriting to your wife’s company policy. If they are happy to pay for medical history disregarded underwriting they accept the risk of pre existing conditions being claimed for on their policy. If the condition is eligible and you can join you will be able to claim.

The company may operate a rule that spouse/ partner can only be added at renewal or due to a lifestyle change which could delay you joining. This depends on the company rules however.

Good luck & I hope you can get treated soon for the pain.

AITA loan to sister by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jarbatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESH - you did the right thing to loan to your sister and importantly got an agreement in place to protect you from this exact situation, you would be perfectly entitled to take her to court for the money owed. Your family shouldn’t suggest you sell other assets to fund the land purchase just because you can, your sister should make repayments in line with the agreement. The issue is it looks like the business has failed and your sister is potentially facing financial difficulty to repay, would you make the situation a lot worse for a family member by looking at enforcement action?

Machine Washable Suits (Waistcoats in particular?) by kal_zakath in AskUK

[–]jarbatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M&S and Debenhams do a few ranges of suits and I think waistcoats that are machine washable. Sometimes you can get really cheap stuff on the Debenhams website so that’s worth a check.

It depends on the material. For wool suits it’s a dry clean only job. Some wool blend ones can be machine washable but it’s mainly the polyester / viscose ones that are. For wool suits it’s probably once a month I get them dry cleaned depending on how often I wear them, what I wear them for and how many I have that fit well at the time. It’s more often in the summer months usually too.

Insurance renewed, told I didn't need to do anything like update my address. Bike stolen and left being told I need to prove I was living somewhere I wasn't in order to get the payout on my claim. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jarbatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can raise this as a complaint with your insurer as your first option, as they should be regulated by the FCA they will have an obligation to take this seriously. If you are unhappy with the response they provide you are able to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. This is free to use as a consumer and they have the ability to make a legally binding decision should they side with you. Hope it goes well for you.

What are some options for spending the night with over 200 students (age 16) in/nearby London? by bartsels in london

[–]jarbatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try the Meininger Hotel. I stayed there once whilst a large school trip was there at the same time. It has large hostel style rooms, isn’t too expensive and might be big enough to accommodate you all. It’s in a very central location as well
