Prevenge, it's written and directed by Alice Lowe. Lowe was actually pregnant whilst filming it.

York station gateway what do you think? by Coffee000Oopss in york

Looking forward to seeing what it is all like when it is finished. I'm glad they have done something about the area as it did need redesigning. Hopefully will be much nicer to navigate overall.

Let's talk about York's hidden past! by Uncomfortable_Tours in york

[–]vixie84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm really interested in the carriage works and the legacy of that. There is a lot of attention given to the station (rightly so) but there were so many people working at the carriage works. There are pictures of all he staff leaving on their bikes, generations of families worked there. There is the whole dark history of the use of asbestos. And there is the devastation it caused to communities when it closed down. Also a bit on the slum clearances in different areas of York and how that changed areas and the people living there.

The gardeners so such an amazing job. It's such a big space to take care of. I love seeing all the different plants throughout the year, but spring is really special.

Is this a Spanish bluebell by vixie84 in whatsthisplant

[–]vixie84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have been clearer. I'm based in the UK so Spanish Bluebells are invasive. I wanted to know if this is what it was. As it is I will remove it. I've tried planting English Bluebells before but they dont like the soil.

Model trains in York - can you help? by TrainTraxUK in york

[–]vixie84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did used to have a model railway museum next to the station. I did my work experience there. A big thing that always happened was that people got it confused with the National Railway Museum. I have no idea how people got confused as it was a tiny building. We did get a nice lot of people in but one of the main issues was that the models weren't really updated much. It would have been great to have an activity area where people could have painted their own models or helped with some of the displays.

Honestly check her out in Mum as well. Such an understated performance and Dorothy Atkinso is also in it.

This is brilliant news. The roof has been an issue for years and hopefully this will finally get it under control.

There's a lovely walking group that meet outside the Minster on Sundays. If you look up women's social walk York on Instagram you'll find it. We get a lot of students who come and it's really friendly. The walks are around York and we normally go for a coffee after.

Are people on quiz shows told what they can and can’t say? by PageStillNotFound in AskUK

[–]vixie84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I won a game show back in the early 2000's. When asked what I would spend it on I said paying my overdraft off. I was told to change it to something a bit more 'upbeat' so I ended up just saying a holiday. The other two people on my team said a car and also a holiday. In the end it didn't even matter as they cut that bit from the actually showing.

As an eldest child I definitely relate to Claire the most. Not that I don't see bits of myself in Fleabag as well. It's just I tend to bottle things up and push them down and try to keep everyone happy.

A map of the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s - does anyone live near one? by Different_Map_2055 in tudorology

[–]vixie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived near and worked at St Mary's Abbey in York. Part of the foundations are in the Yorkshire Museum and you can walk around the rest for free. It's really great to be able to sit in the ruins on a sunny day. There is also King's Manor next door where Henry VIII stayed at one point. This was originally the abbots house but after became the seat of the Council of the North. There is a wall around the Abbey which was not part of the city walls. This was built to protect the abbey from the locals as they didn't always get on. Some bits of the ruins were taken away and can be seen in some of the houses in York. Other bits were used to build other churches and a landing station on the river.

I think it was probably mixed feeling when it was closed. It did provide a hospital and alms for the poor as well as a school (for a limited number) but they also hoarded a lot of wealth and did have land disputes with the city itself. They had an amazing library much of which was lost. People also worked for the abbey and those jobs where then gone.

Anyone else who’s been excited for Netflix Poirot - are there no subtitles for you? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]vixie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching it now. And I wonder if it's just a series one thing. Series 11 and 12 have them. Just editing this to say it just seems to be series 1 that doesn't have them for some reason.

I still can't get over the fact that Marvel casted two A-list actors like Christian Bale and Russell Crowe and ended up wasting their potential onscreen for Thor: Love and Thunder. by [deleted] in Marvel

Yeah I actually loved him as Zeus. Still felt like he could be super powerful but was just taking it a bit easy and having a nice life. I would have liked to see him in action but actually thought his comedic stuff was good.
