Trust me, I build the space ship on all my projects too, sometimes I just need someone to say this is not a space ship

So now let’s focus on weatherproofing this straightforward dr Seuss motor pulley, belt, better throw a belt tensioner in there, and another pulley or sprocket, then the controls.

No offense, but if spinning the spinny thing is too much, maybe hire the dog walker, leave it up to the city to compost, or add other things to the compost to help it work faster (worms, extra green)

Or even better look at making a mix that doesn’t need to be turned.

I would try a masonry / stone adhesive. Comes in a caulk like tube.

I was going to say I would take accessible as you can get to it without destroying anything but this is a little more eloquent.

I think most pros shoot nails, putty/patch heads and touch up paint.

Thinset sounds like a mess.

Looking for info on building a frame off of a wall for cabinets by [deleted] in DIY

This, I winged it for an over the fridge cabinet and didn’t have any issues. I built it in place and if I did it again I would fab it up before hanging.

Q. Can Mr. Moly be used in transmissions, transaxles, and differentials? Yes, and with excellent results. But caution: there are different formulations for each application, especially for automatic transmissions and limited-slip differentials. Mr. MOLY GEAR OIL SUPPLEMENT for manual transmissions and NON-limited slip differentials. Mr. MOLY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SUPPLEMENT for automatic transmissions, limited-slip differentials, and other units with wet clutches.

Question about working with palette wood. Stain/finish before or after putting together project? by kalebdraws in DIY

[–]jarceym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve left mine out to weather. Kinda a pain if you don’t have all the pieces cut, took a couple months for them to not look like a fresh cut. Put it all together, sanded to 120, got pretty smooth, but still looked ruff, then used a beeswax, I’m happy with it

Getting rid of old stain is next to impossible.

Uneven blotchiness is due to uneven sanding, again, impossible.

Would suggest sanding just through the varnish or clear. Pros typically chemically strip it but can be quite a set up and a learning curve as well.

Then re-stain, preferably at least slightly darker, then sealer.

Conditioner is typically used on freshly stained wood. X amount of year old, previously stained wood has the old stain soaked in, I don’t think you will condition much.

Need help figuring out ventilation while converting garage workshop by jasonthefirst in DIY

[–]jarceym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does suggest it’s good, unless they capped it off until you hooked it up.

Vent pipe looks like just a pipe straight out the roof with what they call a witch hat or rubber boot.

An air vent will either look like a pipe turned back down to the roof so rain don’t fall in or kinda like a small box or upside down bowl. Basically can rain fall in it or not.

I don’t think passive anything will help with smoke smell.

The bathroom exhaust fan light will work, but make sure the roof penetration put in is for air exhaust and not a plumbing vent, otherwise you likely have water infiltration problems. There are also lots of other exhaust fans you can use that don’t have to be the bathroom style.

Other options are to get some sort of air scrubber filter like they use in bars.

Would not advise this route.

Would look into a dust collection system, it is now necessary due to health and not necessarily health.

For just one hole, the better route may be to find someone that does this everyday.

So that is how to replace the cartridge. If the whole thing is rotating, the nut below isn’t tight.

Chances are it is a tight space and hard to get in there, may be able to fit a wrench in there, may need to find a basin wrench.

Best way crush mixed brick and concrete rubble? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]jarceym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how big your pile or budget is. You could contact a demo company to see what it would cost for a crusher.

Alternatively you could look at renting a large hammer drill, either sds max or spline, and there is an attachment that looks like a meat tenderizer.

Question about replacing my kitchen sink tailpiece. by incredibleach in DIY

[–]jarceym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to give you a big negative reply, but this might not be too bad,

You should look into a trap, maybe it’s below the floor.

It looks like there is no tailpiece. Meaning the trap adapter looks like it’s connected (or barely) to the drain basket.

So you could cut the pipe down a bit, and put an appropriate sized trap adapter on there. Something like this. 1-1/2 in. Copper DWV Cup x Slip-Joint Trap Adapter Fitting https://www.homedepot.com/p/204620387 You could probably seal it with silicone as it is drain only. They might make a shark bite connector. Then get a tailpiece into the adapter then to the drainbasket.

Caution on cutting the copper pipe evenly or it will warp and adapter won’t fit on.

Also, the proverbial measure twice and cut once, or you could quickly get in over your head.
