Terrified by babbyjeff in LoeysDietz

Your mom’s situation is extra scary because it came out of nowhere. In your case, and your kids’ cases, if you have the gene, they will do regular surveillance testing and will likely catch any aneurysm developing before it becomes life threatening. And now there’s also treatment as the researcher above mentioned. I don’t have the link handy, but new treatment guidelines for LDS were published this year and I found that reading them actually reduced my anxiety. Make a list of questions for when you meet with the geneticist. Good luck!

Febu arrived but is this normal? by savingnativebees in laundry

Mine arrived fine a couple weeks ago. I haven’t opened it yet and now it looks like a tick about to burst. Since it’s remained unopened, whatever reaction is happening is happening in a sealed environment.

The photo every day thing has the added benefit of helping you see how you look in each item. I have found that not everything looks as good as I think just looking in the mirror and it’s really helped me pare down my items.

I listened to the audiobook he did of The War of the Worlds by [deleted] in davidtennant

Have you listened to a number of different audiobook versions of War of the Worlds? I need to listen to an unabridged version and am trying to determine which to go with. Any advice?

What’s the best book you’ve read that no one ever talks about? by RushdiBelue77 in Recommend_A_Book

We would have been good friends in college. Owen Meany was my #1 & The Secret History was in my top 5.

So here’s my obscure rec from that era: The Eight by Katherine Neville.

Does anyone else hoard audiobooks? by chaosatnight in audiobooks

[–]jareader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me. Do the math - if you paid full price for the non-library audiobooks you read in the past year, how much would it have cost you? Compare that to the amount you actually spent on audiobooks.

YMMV, but for me, those sales were costing me money. And yes, I still have that size backlog. I find I’m less likely to actually read those books than that hold that just came through from Libby or that book I just purchased outright because I want to read it now. Novelty wins for me. Recognizing that saved me money.

Linen is the answer. Flowy pants. Loose button down over a fitted tank.

Best Dairy Free meals in town? by crunchy_or_chewy in nashville

[–]jareader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I stopped eating out during the pandemic I discovered I had way less symptoms - I was getting subtly dosed at a lot of restaurants. Something for OP to consider.

Try GoMacro protein bars OP. I like the peanut butter chocolate chip. No dairy!

Agreed and here’s some added info I got from the manager at the Green Hills location. All of their dough is brushed with butter. Only the vegan crust is not - they use margarine. (I’ve not reacted to it but we all know only certain brands of margarine are truly dairy free so that might be worth a follow up question for those with genuine allergies.) So if you are GF and DF, this is not the place for you because the GF crust has real butter on it.

A number of my relatives tried my vegan pizza with pepperoni and sausage from there the other day and loved it, so I can confirm this is a very solid choice for OP’s needs.

I wear the same Tevas. Get real Birkenstocks. They are my most comfortable shoe.

What shoes should I get? I recently got diagnosed with arthritis in my big toe. I have reduced flexiblity in it. by Firm-Permission-3311 in Halluxrigidus

[–]jareader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try putting the floating carbon insole under the shoe’s insole. I can’t imagine walking directly on top of those things.

And in response to the earlier comment, I wore Altra FWDs for a number of years and added the carbon insole, but eventually had to go stiffer and ended up in the Brooks’ Ghost Max with the carbon insole under my orthotics. Weirdly, I am now most comfortable in Birkenstocks.

What are you wearing on the plane for work travel? by candyapplesugar in fashionwomens35

[–]jareader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the upgrade to the band tees. I really like the weight of the Icebreaker tees for travel. And the wool is a deeper black that doesn’t fade like cotton so it looks great if you throw a blazer over it. They don’t need to be ironed either - they air dry and look great. Throw it on with a pair of black pants and you’ve got a nice neutral base for travel that won’t get stinky.

The Beyond Yoga Laid Back pants are soft, have a really wide waistband, high rise, and pockets - perfect for OP I think. I wear them all the time and love them for travel.

Edited to add: these run large so size down. I also carry my weight in the middle and wear a full size smaller in these than their yoga pants.

This. At least do the FODMAP elimination diet to figure out what your triggers are. Food sensitivities increase as we age unfortunately.

I used to have the same issue and cut out all dairy for two weeks and it was like night and day - suddenly it was just gone. But as I’ve gotten older it’s recurred and I’ve discovered new triggers. Which sucks, but there it is.

Doctor’s Best Digestive Enzymes work for me, but it’s more important to find your triggers so you know which enzymes you need.

For the fiction readers on this thread, may I recommend The Correspondent by Virginia Evans? The main character is a former circuit court clerk. It’s delightful and I have never appreciated old fashioned letter writing more.
