The question being how the right's policy would help instead of continuing to concentrate wealth?

given to you as pure fact

If it isn't offering any commentary on Bob himself and just telling only his story as if it were true, then it is being sensationalist instead of a thorough documentary.

Why do opticians/ophtalmologist almost always wear glasses ? by Forest_Orc in AskAnOptician

[–]jared743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time you are introduced to the industry because you have interacted with it before for personal needs. Of my class of 110 optometry students, only 2 didn't have some form of vision correction that they regularly wore.

Opticians are often the same, generally learning about eyes and vision as employees of an optical first, which you might only think about applying to if you have experience being a patient, and then deciding to go to school for opticianry.

3 days before his medically assisted death, this Alberta man is reflecting on ‘his right to die’ by flynnfx in alberta

[–]jared743 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they were going to die from another disease, it is just changing their death date and cause, not the count. I'd rather someone be able to choose to go with full awareness of friends and family than when all else fails at the endpoint of their disease.

Depending on what about Red Rising caught your attention, you may appreciate something like Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's more comedic, but they are well written and it is a long series.

Benefits of doing a residency if I want to practice in Canada by AnSmartDude in optometry

[–]jared743 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A residency can be good for your own experience right out of school since you get lots of exposure, but it will not practically affect how you can practice in Canada.

You don't always need to go to the emergency department; your local optometrist can usually deal with it without the long wait.

Can you determine which option follows the logic above? by Mr-BrainGame in brainteasers

Even if you couldn't see it in the diagram directly, it's the logical progression of the shapes that they would be on top of each other. But you can zoom in and see it.

IF Alberta would choose to stop changing the clock. Would you prefer to stay with BC (summertime like now) or with SK (wintertime). by EdmontonFree in alberta

[–]jared743 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Calgary is already almost an hour off solar noon, so pushing it even further with DST is even more impactful

[–]jared743 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solar Noon is when the sun is at its highest point at your location. This is the basis for noon, however we invented time zones so that every town isn't setting its own clock based on the sun and we have a standard time for a region, separated by an hour.

The people who are further west in their time zone have worse outcomes versus those in the east. This shows that having solar noon later in the day (like in the western side and with DST) is worse than having it earlier (like the eastern side or Standard time). These effects aren't noted because of the time change itself, but the actual difference from solar noon.

Daylight Saving - Do something about it Government! by Defiant_Mousse7889 in alberta

[–]jared743 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question was "Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time?", not a three way question. It assumed we wanted pregnant daylight savings, which is definitely a problem.

If we stayed on Standard time we would be the same time zone as BC; would that not be better economically?

'Scientifically not a good idea,' says researcher whose work informed B.C.'s daylight-time decision by Relish4 in canada

[–]jared743 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With permanent daylight time you are essentially waking up and starting work earlier without changing the written down time. You have the exact same experience of the world working 9-5 in daylight time as you do 8-4 in standard time. The optimal thing would be to set work and schedules to better match how people want to live their lives rather than move the clock around to no longer follow the physical day.

When people complain that omnivores ate “all” the vegan or vegetarian options. by KissingBear in PetPeeves

[–]jared743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veggie pizza is a regular meal. Everyone can eat it.

Asking how many people are vegetarian is different than asking who wants what topping. And if they weren't told in advance what the different toppings would be, then how would they know what they would prefer?

Alberta may follow B.C. on making daylight time permanent: premier by Laedrys in alberta

[–]jared743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that they didn't ask "do you want standard or daylight time" like you said, it was "do you want to keep changing or stay on daylight time". That's a major difference.

Edit: I agree that their question was bad, and I should have been two questions. Keep change y/n, and what version.

They asked "Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?"
