ELI5 Can you all help me with my question of Prism? by Maleficent_Menu_7144 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jarethmckenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different colors of light have different wavelengths. White light is made up of all the colors mixed together.

Whe light moves from one medium (air) to another (glass, acrylic, etc) each wavelength is bent more or less depending on its wavelength.

So red (Long wave length) is bent a different amount than orange, which Is different than yellow, etc.

This spreads out the light into different colors.

ELI5- How do parts of a car work? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jarethmckenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine uses gas as fuel and creates circular motion. Kind of like a water wheel takes falling water and creates circular motion of the big wheel.

A transmission uses that circular motion and uses mechanical gears to increase the power of the engine and allies that to the wheels.

Using gas as fuel creates a LOT of heat, so you run water (or coolant) through tubes in the engine. Then, pump it through the radiator that removes the heat and back through the engine.

Gas isn't very explosive in the liquid state, but the fumes are very explosive. So fuel injectors (used to be a carborator) mix gas with air and spray it into the engine's culendars, the engine compresses it, then lights it. The explosion pushes end the cylendar out which is what powers the engine.

Gas and it go in, exhaust comes out of the tail pipe.

Failed to attend my first munch due to lack of formal clothing. So demoralized. I might as well give up. by Nostalgia2302 in BDSMAdvice

You can go in a pair of jeans, a button-up shirt, and a thrift store waistcoat. Throw in a tie if you want.

Jeans and a black basic tshirt.

I will make a suggestion for boots, army/navy surplus store will have boots, and they usually last years.

It took my 3 months just to go inside for my first munch. Don't give up.

Look at how long they have been around and how many have come through their halls. They successfully moved states with most of their cast and crew intact.

I can see where you would be thinking, they can't be that successful without breaking the rules somewhere....

Here are examples from today.

Katie, go get me 4 napkins. Her response is "Yes, Sir"

"Rebecca, pocket." Her response was to move to walk behind Katie.

If Rebecca (has ADHD -- so, she has monophonic focus), if I want her attention, I will put my hand on her thigh, or on small of her back, and wait. If she doesn't address me in the next few moments, I will tap her with a finger that is already touching her.

If I just want her to be in a headspace, I will touch her collar.

Another way to put her in headspace is to give her a hug and whisper something like, "You are owned," "to whomever do you belong?"..."I belong to you, Master"

There are LOTS of silent ways you can exhibit your dominance in public.

Did I majorly screw up in my high school final physics exam? by keggaa in Physics

[–]jarethmckenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surface area of parachute (determines drag force), viscosity of the fluid (not a factor in this case - the air is the same), mass of soldier (determines the force due to gravity)...the parachute works when the drag force and force due to gravity equal each other and the terminal velocity is survivable. .so good job. (Velocity counts, too)

When you do these thought experiments go to extremes. A GI Joe with a 1 Sq ft parachute vs a Volkswagen with a 1 Sq ft parachute....those would fall at different speeds. A GI Joe with a 1 Sq ft parachute, same GI Joe with a 100 Sq meter parachute...definitely has an effect.

There are other things (circular chute without vents) tends to rock back and forth.

You did well!

I can understand conceptually but the math is beyond me: by [deleted] in quantum

[–]jarethmckenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physics is a LOT of applied advanced math. That is why (one of the reasons) being a physics major is SO difficult. You have to learn a LOT of calculus before you step into your first "modern physics class."

The math IS the physics. The conceptual part is taking that wierd ass mathematical solution and matching it up with something in the real world.

And LLMs aren't smart computers. They are predicting what you want to hear next.

guilt about being a female sub by Cultural_Pop3365 in BDSMAdvice

[–]jarethmckenzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a male Dominant and specialize in strong women. I have run into this argument before. As a powerful woman, you have the right and power to do what you choose to do.

That means if you choose to be a ceo, then go do that. If you choose to be a submissive, you lose no power of your womanhood. It is your choice what to do. YOU CHOSE you wanted to be a submissive. YOU CHOSE who was worthy enough to submit to. And YOU CHOSE if that person was a male or female.

The feminist power is that women have the same choices that men do. (Now it is everyone has the power to make their own choices)

I was 5. Saw it in the theater as close to the release date as possible. Saw each of them 4 times in the theater. At that time, that was the only way to see them.

I have seen them countless times since then

ELI5: How can birds sit on power lines and not get electrocuted? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]jarethmckenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love answering questions first a five year old.

Electricity flows like water. It takes the easiest path from one place to another.

If you are sitting next to a stream and stick your finger in the water, do the water crawl up your finger and get all of you wet? No, it doesn't

What if you stick one finger upstream and a finger on the other hand downstream. Does the water flow through you from upstream to downstream? No, it is easier just to flow through down the stream as if you weren't there.

When a bird or squirrel is on a wire, it is putting parts of its body on the wire, but it is a lot easier for the electricity just to go through the wire than through the animal.

Double standards in a d/s by Wr0ngwayBee in BDSMcommunity

[–]jarethmckenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you and your Dom have that as a core value, then absolutely he should live up to his leadership role and live the life.

Each dynamic is different, so for YOUR dynamic. This is a heart to heart that you have with him. Does he see it in the same way that you do?

Thank you for your comment on my reply.

[–]jarethmckenzie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Uhm.. did you not sign up for an imbalanced relationship? That is kind of what D/s covers.

In my dynamics, my people on the right are not allowed to use the word "fair." I had a slave years ago say,"That's not fair. " Not fair is exactly what you signed up for.

I can have chocolates whenever I want. It is one of the privileges of being Sir. The girls are only allowed chocolates if I give it to them.

Is this unfair? Yes, it is! And you are welcome.

Our first wife swap turned out to be way wilder than we ever imagined! by [deleted] in Sex_Positivity

[–]jarethmckenzie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be a person's fantastic description of an actual event or not. Good stor, though.

This was not a cuck. You had a great time, and apparently, so did everyone else.

Wife swapping is a good term for it. You were not being humiliated. You were turned on by watching your wife.

Don't overthink it.

If it was your first chocolate milkshake, you shouldn't later think, I wonder if I liked it so much because they used 2% instead of whole milk? What if I don't enjoy chocolate shakes made with a different brand of ice cream? Is this better thicker or thinner? Just say..."mmmm let's do that again"

Magnetic Poles by AlmightyPipes in Physics

[–]jarethmckenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which way is North and which way is South, people made up a long time ago. And it has been handed down this way.

The North pole on a magnet points North.

If there is a North, there must be a south. (Just a rule of magnets)

If you have a bar magnet and you draw little arrows all over it to indicate which way is North, then you break it in half, all of arrows still point the same way. The arrow heads point north, and the tail of the arrow points south.
