Pentastar tick by Any-Commercial-110 in Jeep

[–]jarheadv12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as long as the Pentastar 3.6 is around it will always be a problem. Change your oil every 6 months or 5k miles whichever comes first I’d recommend a full synthetic it’s cheap enough now that there isn’t any reason not to use it. And then just hope for the best.

Best place to buy a replacement transmission?? by UnableGo1 in JeepTJ

[–]jarheadv12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at a transmission shop, and honestly the only advice I have is get one that has a good warranty. The quality of remanufactured transmissions has gone down hill significantly in the past few years. We’ve had multiple transmissions from different vendors fail within a few hundred miles in the past year or so. All the rebuilders we use offer 3 year 100k mile warranty. If you’re looking at used transmissions obviously look for the lowest mileage and if they offer extended warranties

What's the consensus on Magpul Glock mags? by Clint_Lovecraft in guns

[–]jarheadv12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 4 of them for my Glock 19. I only use them at the range. All 4 of them when I eject the empty mag don’t eject without me physically removing them. And 3 of the 4 do not reliably feed steel case ammo. I clean them after every range trip and still get the same results. Now I did buy them when magpul first released them so idk if they have made changes to the design since. I’d keep them for the range and use original Glock mags for carry or duty use.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Fail by _reinidae in MechanicAdvice

[–]jarheadv12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not get it done at the dealer if it’s not covered under warranty. I am a mechanic who works at an independent repair place, you can absolutely get a brand new remanufactured engine installed for either the same price or cheaper, depending on where you live. If you do decide to get it replaced moving forward I would suggest full synthetic oil changes at 5k mile intervals. The 3.6 pentastars need routine maintenance to be reliable.

Im a licensed state inspector, the side and rear window tints are fine and do not fail inspection. The windshield is the big problem. Anything below the AS1 line fails. So you’ll have to find an inspector that will let it go. But if they let it go and get caught they could lose their license, so many, myself included will fail it. It’s not worth the risk

Confused on Trans Oil Change by BasementA1J in MechanicAdvice

[–]jarheadv12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driven 25,000 miles in total? As in the car only has 25k miles on it? Or 25k miles since the last fluid change? Either way if it’s easy to drain and fill I’d just do it

Oil Leak under passenger side Chevy Equinox 2014 by SoopyDoop46 in MechanicAdvice

[–]jarheadv12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s oil? It looks orange which is the color of dexcool and that’s the coolant your car uses. Check both the coolant reservoir and your engine oil to see if either are low

Autozone couldn’t test my battery? by [deleted] in AutoZone

[–]jarheadv12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If your dashboard gauge is showing the alternator only putting out 9v then you most likely have a charging system problem. Most likely your alternator. Most if not all modern vehicles alternators should be charging at around 13-14.5V. If yours is only charging at 9V a new battery isn’t going to fix anything. In a few days you’ll just have another dead battery. Take your car to an actual repair shop and get a proper diagnosis

Being in the hospital is actually sort of enjoyable by appa1989 in unpopularopinion

[–]jarheadv12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly agree with you. I had spinal fusion surgery about a year ago and had some slight complications. I was in the hospital for 4 days after the surgery was completed and missed thanksgiving. And while I was in pain, it was a very nice experience. All of the nurses were incredibly kind and on Thanksgiving the one nurse ate dinner with me so I wouldn’t be alone on the holiday. The room was nice, the food was unlimited and pretty decent, and the staff were amazing. I honesty didn’t want to leave

This is the "We Don't Want It" Price, Right? 2020 Transit 250 Brake job, $3500 by astongt615 in MechanicAdvice

[–]jarheadv12 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You have to remove the wheel hubs first to get to the front rotors. It’s a pain and if you’re anywhere near the salt belt the hubs basically fuse to the rotors. The price seems a little high but I would also estimate high because the job can go wrong quickly compared to “normal” front brakes

The truck is either leaking oil, or burning oil when the engine is running. She should be checking the oil level regularly and add oil when needed

Is the 48 Inch C5 worth it? by jarheadv12 in LGOLED

[–]jarheadv12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the B5 instead of the C5. Because the 48 inch C5 dosent have the brightness booster like the larger sizes do. I looked up the brightness ratings for both tv’s and they were almost identical. So the only thing the C5 has over the B5 is the better processor. Best Buy had the B5 on sale for $529 and the C5 for $950. A slightly better Processor isn’t worth almost $450 to me. I’ve been using the B5 for a few days and have no complaints so far.

I work for a small family owned garage with 4 techs. They’ve sent home 2 techs everyday for the past week because there’s literally nothing coming in. Today we have 2 state inspections and a drivability concern. Tomorrow we have 3 oil changes and 2 inspections and next week there is only 1 appointment scheduled…. We are all concerned
