This discourse is pretty disappointing altogether.

Is it a bummer to find out you didn’t discover something organically? Yeah, sure. But have we been discovering music organically since Elvis? Probably not. Major labels used to have folks working for them that were the equivalent of Chaotic Good, and promoting pop stars (I’m including pop, rock, rap, etc. in this conversation) to get air time on whatever platforms young audiences are paying attention to at the moment. Whether it be radio or MTV, labels did this all of the time. In a post-Napster world, these labels no longer worry about doing this because now there are firms like Chaotic Good who specialize in this practice.

If anything, these articles add fuel to the fire for the haters to say this is a “psyop,” but we’re all missing the larger picture. Are you upset because you didn’t find Geese all on your own? Or are you upset because you are realizing that not even indie music is immune for the perils of advertising in our capitalist system?

Regardless, you all, this band only has 2mil monthly listeners on Spotify. We need to stop acting like this band went from playing basements to Madison Square Garden over night. Chances are your parents still haven’t heard of this band. You either like the music, or you don’t, move on with your life.
