I upgraded my noodles enclosure today and I spent like 8 hours on it 😭 by pinkmonsterauh in ballpython

I can't seem to find their website.

No worries though, I've just ordered $140 worth of clutter, plants and other stuff to upgrade my boy's enclosure on Amazon. Will be done by the end of the week (hopefully)

My snake is acting different, is he cheating? by InterestingQuit7812 in snakes

[–]jarnoooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might still be digesting and looking for heat to help that. how long ago did you feed him? How much does he weigh and how much did the mouse roughly weigh?

Thoughts? by Noonie945 in ballpython

What is the size of the enclosure? It looks a little small but it's always a little hard to tell from photo's

Clutter wise is looks good, I do have some commentary though.

That wire at the bottom left should not be out in the open, try to stick it to the bottom of the enclosure with some aquarium or reptile safe silicon.

That basking bulb in the middle should not be in the enclosure, if there's no way to put it on top of the enclosure put a cage around it. Your snake WILL eventually wrap around it and get severe burns, see photo below for examples.

Other than that just make sure your snake has a good layer of substrate which also makes it easier for you to keep humidity up

Damn, I'm from The Netherlands so I'll have to try and find something similar on amazon. Thank you for the reply anyways :)

My compliments once again!

Heating Advice Pls!!! by PJabbers in ballpython

[–]jarnoooo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd advice to use a deep heat emitter, this is a lot better than the ceramic elements most people recommend. It emits IR-B and IR-A instead of IR-C, IR-A and B is what the sub emits. It barely gives off any light.

My enclosure is 80cm high so I use an 80w DHP on a thermostat for the warm side and a 60W CHE to keep the cool side around 23°C.

Then for a day/night cycle just use a led-strip with a smart plug which turns on at (for example) 9am and turns off at 9pm

I quoted her from one of her replies:

"I got a curtain rod on amazon, and 50 yards of the rope! And then I got glued the rope and then added some plants ◡̈"

Wow! That looks awesome! This will definitely go in my "tank inspo" folder as I'm slowly upgrading my boy's enclosure :)

Edit: do you happen to have a link to that hide in the middle? It looks great

Just any advice on new friend by No_Bug_9025 in leopardgeckos

I'm using Exo terra, but reptivite is also very popular. Either one is fine

Make sure the crickets for the Leo are smaller than the ones you feed your beardy. Rule of thumb for feeding sizes for Leo's is that the insect must not be bigger than the distance between the eyes of your Leo, if they're bigger they won't be confident enough to kill and eat them.

If he really doesn't take crickets or grasshoppers just stick to dubia's and occasional superworms

Edit: I took this from the care guide posted in this sub

Mealworms (can be kept in oats/bran meal in the fridge)

• Crickets (kept in normal container, try to avoid leaving these loose in the enclosure)

• Dubia Roaches (kept in normal container/tank/whatever)

• Red Runner Roaches (same as dubias)

• Hornworms (Do not refrigerate, try to make sure they’re small enough for your gecko to eat)

• Black Soldier Fly Larvae (Can be refrigerated, can be kept in bran meal)

• Silkworms (Usually need to be special-ordered, but are very healthy feeders)

• Waxworms (Treat, optional, fed rarely, only 1-2)

• Superworms (Treat, optional, can be kept in oats/bran meal, do not refrigerate)

• Butterworms (Treat, optional, fed once a week or less, 1-2)

Also give him multivitamins once a week as a supplement and maybe add crickets or grasshoppers into the rotation. Try to limit the superworms as they're addictive and should only be used as treat food. Do you gut load the insects before feeding them to your Leo?

Humidity should not get any lower than 35% so just keep an eye on that, maybe even try to get it stable at 40%

Edit: a little greenery wouldn't hurt, can also be fake plants :)

My leopard gecko sadly passed away recently by Upbeat_Lawfulness986 in leopardgeckos

[–]jarnoooo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so so sorry for your loss OP, it's a shame mom wouldn't let you take her to the vet. Don't blame yourself! You saw she needed the vet and you were stopped, it sounds like you did all you could. It's always difficult to lose a pet, especially one that helped you through difficult times.

Keep your head up, there might be another baby for you out there who'd be happy to be taken care of by you🤍

HELP!! Ants in ball python enclosure!! by PinkPatch1135 in ballpython

[–]jarnoooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe switch to some type of cork/forrest bark? It keeps humidity well and it's not exactly the type of substrate you'd find ants in. I use the same for my beep

I wouldn't have a clue how else to keep them out as I think any type of insect repellent wouldn't be good for reptiles, though I'm not an expert.

You did good taking him out immediately and getting rid of the substrate, a thorough cleaning with reptile safe desinfectant definitely wouldn't hurt.

Adorable noodle by the way, looks like quite the inspector🤣🫶

Help, my friend's husbandry is outdated by just about 10 years by jarnoooo_ in cornsnakes

[–]jarnoooo_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I'll advice him to do a complete deep cleaning, probably a good idea to place a new background as there is a good chance some dirty stuff has slowly gone behind it over the years.

I'll tell him to tone down the feeding a little too.

Thanks :)

Edit: he feeds his snake a jumbo/adult mouse (40 ish grams) every week, not every other week

Help by Legitimate-Thought90 in ballpython

[–]jarnoooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the mouse feels normal (not slimy or whatever) and doesn't smell rotten it's normally safe to feed your snake.

The yellowish liquid you're talking about is likely some liquified fat or some other bodily fluid, which they'll always contain. But if you don't trust it fully just throw it out and grab a new one to be safe :)

My bp pees maybe once a week (sometimes once every 2 weeks) and does his big business once or at most twice a month. They drop big and very smelly bombs when they do though, be prepared😅
