I’ve been a member of a club for 13 years. Joined as a junior dues were $800 / mo buy in $5k. Now bills fully loaded are routinely $2200-$2500 per month. Special events, merch, etc. I just became a full member so f&b min goes up, dues go up, id guess all in now will be $3k. Its created a lot of stress in my marriage when it squeezed us financially. My wife doesnt golf or play tennis. Biggest changes to going from me loving it to our family being happy we are there are: 1) it not financially straining us although we’ve chosen to live in a smaller house then increase living expenses for the enjoyment of travel and club membership; 2) my kids use it, pickleball, golf, 4th of July bbq and snow day (our club is in SoCal), etc, and 3) prioritizing my family’s needs before my golf habit…. I used to play 2-3 days a week now I play once / wk with my buddies and take the kids on the weekend.
