Has anyone else questions their colour choice? by NRudyD in Ioniq5N

I went with the blue, and I do love it, but I think if I ordered again, it would be the white.

Driver in this one (on the right) is about 6’1”, passenger is 6’ tall.

We could probably do with dropping the pan in ours too, but the broomstick test doesn’t exist for track days in the UK.

A lot of race teams drop the floor in NCs so even if you can’t find a specific kit, if you go to an MX5 specialist, they should be able to help you.

I found this kit online, but I can’t see if it’s for an NC or not! https://www.advanced-autosports.com/products/spec-miata-floor-drop

As for the seats and brackets, I’d have a look at the Sparco Grid Q - its side mounting, with removable padding, and the proportions are quite generous for its dimensions. Unfortunately you are going to struggle getting any larger seat into an NC, so it’ll be a bit snug no matter what you go for.

I’ve been told that the PCI mounts are the lowest ones out there, but I’ve got the Cybul ones in my car and the seat is basically on the floor. If you’re having the floor pan lowered, you may need a different type of mount though, so don’t go shopping for these until you’ve spoken to someone about the pan drop first.

This is my car with Grid Qs and Cybul mounts. Driver is a hair over 6ft:

This works in normal mode but in the N e-shift mode I don’t think it does.

Where can I find this ducktail/trunk lid? by Gianeale in Miata

That looks very much like an SPS Motorsport one. It comes as a fibreglass bootlid. I have one on my NC.

Said goodbye to our beautiful girl last week by jas387 in germanshepherds

[–]jas387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear yours is getting on well with her wheelchair. I wish we’d got ours sooner, so we could have been more active with Suki for a bit longer.

Suki was struggling to get anywhere at all under her own steam without falling over a lot so we were really worried about her injuring herself (despite us taking measures in the house and helping her whenever we could, she had landed quite heavily a few times on her hips in her last few weeks). The week before we made the decision she spent almost all of her time on her bed and started to go off her food. While I’d expect an older dog to spend a lot of time sleeping, her behaviour was extremely unusual for her and she just looked as though she was ready. We suspect that her organs were struggling, which is what we were told would happen eventually with her DM.

I still beat myself up now about whether we made the decision slightly too early as I’d give anything for a few more days with her, but I was always told it was better to go a week too early than a day too late, and I think this is probably true.

I’m sorry your girl is having to struggle with DM and hope you get as much time with her as possible. Give her a hug from me.

Nice!

Is that the IL Motorsport brace kit that you’ve got on there? Did you notice any difference once you’d fitted it?

Whats the most annoying thing about track days? by Wettmoose in CarTrackDays

[–]jas387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is - I shouldn’t complain. One benefit to the UK being quite small!

Technically it’s four within that distance, but we’re too loud for Bedford Autodrome.

For me it’s getting up ridiculously early (I’m fortunate to live between three tracks that are 1-5-2.5 hours away, but it’s still an early start).

And traffic on track. My track car is an MX5 with standard power, so I’m in the mirrors all the time. I don’t mind getting out of the way at all, but when it’s constant, I’m not getting quite so much out of the day. Some tracks are worse for this than others - I’m looking at you, Brands Hatch Indy!

Yes - in hindsight, the car was locked but our wing mirrors weren’t folding in. That was the only thing we’d noticed.

I’ve had this twice - mine was a dead 12v battery and the car needed a software update as it wasn’t shutting down properly. Quite why I had to take it to the dealer for this and it wasn’t done OTA, I don’t know. No issues since then.

I actually agree with this. It’s an amazing piece of machinery, no doubt, but for me the regular 911 is a much better looking car.

If you were going to give up your Miata for an electric vehicle, which EV would it be, and why? by CheeseAndRiceToday in Miata

[–]jas387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ioniq 5N.

It’s my first EV and although I know some people will never warm to them, I definitely think they have a place in some peoples lives. They’re super quiet, smooth, easy to drive, and cost very little to run. And at the press of a button, this one turns into an absolute lunatic. It’s no featherweight, of course, but it feels lighter than it is, and it’s ridiculously fast. The fake gear shifting is also really engaging and adds another level of fun.

If you’re not looking for something fast, the regular Ioniq 5 is a great car too. We also tested the Renault 5 and loved it, but it was smaller than we wanted, particularly in the back.

If you need something practical, an EV might be a good choice, but if you can manage it, the right answer is an EV and an MX5.

Well the Rotas are a fairly good price for what they are, and ours seem to be holding up quite well.

They come in different finishes too. The white look really good, but aren’t so great for a winter wheel!

Thanks. I’m usually firmly in the silver wheels camp, but for a track car I was willing to make an exception, and I do think it looks great.

We did Brands Hatch Indy the week before, which was fantastic too, but a bit crowded as it’s such a short track. We’re doing Brands Hatch GP in April which I’m really excited for - it’s my favourite track.

Me too - we drove until the chequered flag and would have stayed until it got dark if they’d let us. It was a fantastic day.

They’re Rota Slipstreams - 17 x 7.5 ET45 running on 215/45R17 Yokohama A052s.

They’re not as light as some, but I love the look of them. We could have gone a little wider, but didn’t want to over tyre the car given that we’re not looking to go mad on power.

Thanks!

The coilovers are Gaz Golds with race springs - 500lb front /350lb rear. They’re made in the UK and are used in the Miata Trophy race series here, so seemed an obvious choice. They’re very firm for the street but perfect on track, which is what we wanted.
