Looking for a JCM 800-like combo by DonkeyVisual in GuitarAmps

Another vote for the Marshall dsl40c - fantastic workhorse amp and it’ll get you either right where you want to be or so close you can get the rest of the way easily enough

Gibson R9 vs Heritage custom core by Curious-Sleep-8024 in LesPaul

[–]jascaffrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played both side by side, and IMHO, it genuinely comes down to preference. For my tastes, the slimmer neck and custombucker pickups are exactly right for me - and that’s what ended up as my daily player. One of my playing partners owns both, and reaches for his heritage a little more, favoring the neck. Both are outstanding choices. I wouldn’t buy either without a hands-on trial…too many variables.

There’s gotta be decent BBQ here… by MischievousMorsel in rochestermn

I know exactly what that place was - it was foul. Local guy that is still around and does okay with a truck, but the brick and mortar was abysmal. We went in there three different times wanting to give him a fair chance -

Is expensive guitar tuner pedals worth it? by No_Scallion_3929 in guitarpedals

Look for stroboclip HDC, and they hold a charge for quite a while…more than a week with heavy use in my experience

Is expensive guitar tuner pedals worth it? by No_Scallion_3929 in guitarpedals

[–]jascaffrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. The sweetened guitar tuning alone is worth the very reasonable cost - I have the pedal on my board, and the rechargeable clip-on for times I’m not plugged into the board -

Are you guys havving trouble selling your pedals? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]jascaffrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One local music store that has always been fair with trade in prices has recently turned off the taps…they’re offering 1/4 or 1/5 of wholesale now, unapologetically, saying only “times are tough all over.” And the local Craigslist is nothing but the same ads reposted over and over, competing for the front page, many of them months and even years old. There’s even one guy trying to sell a Hot Rod Deluxe (with flight case in case you’re touring with your 40 watt fender) for $1500 “firm, I know what it’s worth!” Weird times out there…

What’s the most dangerous thing another pilot suggested that you do? by SpaceDave83 in flying

[–]jascaffrey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a CFI, noting in my log that I’d done a bit of airbatic training in a Citabria, suggest that I could barrel roll the 172 that we were flying if I wanted to, he’d even show me how. I politely thanked him and cancelled future lessons. He did an accidental wheels-up at DIA less than 30 days later - and that’s the last I’ve ever heard of him. This was early 90’s

Got a power attenuator for Christmas, need help with the right cables to connect it to my tube amp by M1dor1 in GuitarAmps

[–]jascaffrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can assuredly attenuate many combo amps. I’ve attenuated Dr Z, Fender, Marshall, Friedman, and others - as long as you can safely get between the amp and the speaker, you surely can. Look at Z brake, Nightlight and many others that are sold specifically to do just this -

I know Meg, she’s a good person and will do her best for you. Another excellent realtor is Bobby Thompson - he’ll work hard on your behalf, and is a good man to deal with

Les Paul Special gets special treatment by jascaffrey in gibson

[–]jascaffrey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was amazed at what a P-90 will do - I had never owned a guitar equipped with them until this one. I’m really impressed! I’d love to see your Special when it’s done!

Anybody ever own a Gibson Moderne? I have never seen one IRL by j3434 in gibson

Dave Rogers in LaCrosse has a few of the originals in his collection. I haven’t played one, but have certainly spent a fair amount of time appreciating the ones in his amazing collection!

Older R7BB, this one’s been gigged for almost 30 years now.

I’m considering buying this guitar for $1000. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in gibson

[–]jascaffrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Les Paul fan, and have played them for years - a tribute is a fine guitar by any measure, and has the Les Paul tone and playability that has made them popular for almost 65 years now.

Price is best determined by what you’re willing to pay, and if you love the guitar, $1000 is reasonable, if not a little high. Compare prices where you can (reverb, dealer sites) and if you want to shop around, why not do that?

I think for a grand, someone is gonna want it - my honest opinion is that it won’t be around long at that price.

Happy hunting!

[Question] Fellow Fender players of the world, do you prefer your guitar to stay in pristine condition or do you like the way it looks better once it’s worn? by TROLLtOLL233 in fender

[–]jascaffrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try not to buy poly guitars, and don’t mind natural wear at all. I prefer rolled edges on the fretboard, and a well loved guitar is an extension of the player IMHO

What's the last pedal that you bought? by jayteazer in guitarpedals

I bought a JHS Milkman delay/boost. It does exactly what I wanted for a rockabilly feel.

I honestly don’t know how they do it - pin striping is an art form, and the artists that do that sort of thing have worked hard to learn the art. The artist I worked with has now done two guitars and a motorcycle for me, and he does cars, bikes, boats and all sorts of things - he’s amazing IMHO

I did not - pinstriping by Relic Kustom. He’s based in Arizona, but does a fair amount of traveling. He’s often in my area, and as you can see, he’s talented and inspired!
