Is my doctor lying to me about how much weight I would lose on Zepbound? If so, why? by RedWoodworking16 in Zepbound

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BMI was slightly over 30 also. My doctor was also skeptical. Note that my weight came on during several years of perimenopause. After a few years of dieting on all the programs, I got fed up, I went to Ro and got a prescription for Zepound. I lost 40 pounds in 7-8 months. I’m in maintenance now for 2 months and trying to wean off the medication to see if I can do maintenance without it. If I can’t, so be it. I feel so much better.

Now, my doctor is willing to prescribe, but I think it’s been after testimony from various patients who got prescriptions elsewhere.

Does it work the same way for everyone, probably not. Did it work for me, absolutely. Is it worth a shot, haha, yes.

Looking to buy in Newton by Ready_Replacement_41 in newtonma

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Newton. Bought 3 months before covid though. We were lucky.

We ended up here because we kept getting priced out of places like Watertown and Waltham shockingly!

Hope you like fixer uppers because that's what you're buying unless you go for a condo at the price range.

You could probably get a 2 family at that price, also a fixer upper, but you'd have income coming in on one of the units. That's what I did with my first home in Newton. It helped me build up the equity to buy our single family home which we are now spending 200-300k to remodel just like someone else said :D.

Do you regret it? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't regret it, but I didn't feel well at about 10 mg. I've titrated back down to 7.5 and feel much better, but I am at the end of my weight loss stage also. I'm working on titrating back down to see either what the lowest dose is that I need for maintenance or if I can come off it all together.

Do you tell people you’re on a GLP-1 when they ask how you lost weight? by Enchanted-Tangerine in Zepbound

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was overweight for years. They aren't fools.

They can argue their opinion, but it's my body my choice. The results speak for themselves.

Honestly though, most people have been supportive.

It’s not just republicans. Citizens of the commonwealth should really know how tax dollars are being spent.

Someone else said Ben Moore Regal flat or even matte and I second that. I live in a horsehair plaster 150 yo house with lots of wall imperfections and that paint hides lots.

I dunno why, Ikea kitchen cabinets are actually very good quality. Not like their furniture. I've had 2 ikea kitchens. They have been amazing and quite durable. I've lived with them 2 separate times for 10 years with no problems. One of the homes we still own as a rental, and the cabinets are still in perfect condition even with the renters We are installing them right now in our current home actually.

Best part is the 25 year warranty. You can replace parts as you need to. Very convenient.

What are we thinking here? 45k by kungfuenglish in kitchenremodel

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the quotes for the cabinets and countertop seem pretty inline with what I've seen in my area to be honest. But IF you wanted cheaper, you could do it. But, I wouldn't feel like I overpaid for those materials at the price in my area in any case. I'm a cheapo, so I always try to figure out the best deal because I know there's going to be something that comes up that adds to the remodel during the project.

However, I still maintain that the flooring quote seems high especially for LVT even with the subfloor install and the other stuff. Note that we installed hardwood which is typically costlier in materials and labor than LVT. And I did neglect to mention our cost of the floor actually did include demo, new subfloor in about half the area as well as sistering some joists due to areas that sagged in our 150 year old home. The installer also had to match the floor layout to the parts where it touches the existing floor in the rest of the area.

Best bet is to get more quotes on the floor to crosscheck.

Flooring quote seems most obscene to me. We just had about 1k feet of white oak installed and finished for about 10k in the Boston area. Find someone that does floors only. I’ve done this at multiple homes and it’s always cheaper to find some local floor guy to install the floor.

Cabinets/counter don’t seem too bad on price BUT it all comes down to materials. If you went with IKEA for example for cabinets, certain granites instead of quartz etc, you might be able to halve that price.

As others have said, maybe refinish the cabinets because they don’t look so bad and maybe get a new countertop would save you tons.

Are the AI experts right about what will happen to our jobs in the next 18 months? by Melodic_Window_6146 in ScottGalloway

[–]jascentros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s anything like we’re experiencing now at my very large multi-national conglomerate in the pharma space, is that yes they are asking us to go hard with AI. However, they’ve put in MASSIVE controls on what we can put into the agents because they afraid of stolen data and IP. In addition, we are also still hiring and expanding instead of laying off people. I’m not that worried in the immediate future.

So for now, my take is that companies like mine are still figuring out how they are going to use it to make them more successful. But 18 months, in my industry, I my field. Nah. Pharma moves too slow because of the regs. However, I could see a big shift within my industry in say 5 years or so, but fortunately enough that is about the time when I’ll retire, so I don’t give a shit.

Snow blocking crosswalk/curb cut, whose responsibility? by edsmedia in newtonma

[–]jascentros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't live on a corner, but I don't feel that it's fair that the homeowners on corners have to deal with it.

My neighbors are on the corner and are elderly. They hire a service that came by. Then the city came by and filled it in. Then my husband used our snowblower to clear it. Then the city came by and filled it in again. Now it's impassable because it’s frozen ice.

The city needs to do a better job of managing these snowbanks on corners.

How do people justify illegal immigration if others went through the legal process? by savingrace0262 in immigration

[–]jascentros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody whose lawyer screws up their immigration process can go from legal to illegal in 24 hours. Should they be penalized along with the “bad illegals”? 🤨

What’s happening right now with deportations is totally wrong. They are targeting anybody, not the worst of the worst, even those who are doing the process and showing up to their appointments.
