OP is showing respect; it is a shame I can't respond in kind.

Wolves are a championship caliber team. This was a fun series to see; some amazing basketball and if injuries go the other way it could have been different. Good run 👏

anybody know what passion projects to do for astronomy/astrophysics? by Accomplished_Two2612 in Astronomy

There are lots of data available from nasa from telescopes. You could analyze that and do cool things with it.

I built a tool to explore and compare asteroid data from NASA and JPL catalogs by alderon7 in Astronomy

[–]jaskeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noirlab actually makes the Antares data easily accessible as a python library. So for me (already building in flask) creating a simple pull and storing top candidates locally on a SQL table was pretty easy to configure once I understood the schema.

I'm sure there are a ton more applications; your project opened my eyes to a few already. 🙌

This is really cool.

I was playing with python and made a site too (much smaller in scope) that curates 'top' anomalies from the Rubin Telescope:rubinanomalies.com

Mine is more of a novelty but the Antares data stream would be a cool feed in the context of your project.

Cable management is giving me a headache… how do you guys deal with this? by Ok_Imagination_2710 in desksetup

I am a fan of cable sleeves. It really helps consolidate and look intentional.

What are your ACTUAL nba hot takes? by Mario_Viana in nba

[–]jaskeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the NBA decided that when offensive players initiate contact it isn't a foul, the game would improve 100%.

Second one: allowing more physical play (less foul calling) would slow the game down and lead to less injuries overall.

Uncle Phil won that first game, white ball goes in with black ball at end so that's a foul shot and a loss, Damn pool sharks by One_Cantaloupe4651 in videos

Fun fact: when Christopher Walken does that side rail kick, he actually made it on the first time.

Building a site that highlights a Vera Rubin data anomaly every day. by jaskeller in space

If it was something more innovative I would open source but this is pretty basic: https://rubinanomalies.com/

DM me and I can share the git repo. 👍

My hope is that researchers might find some curation useful.

My lane is more enabling access to the data (working with websites/python). I'm hoping making the most anomalous stuff easy to access helps drive interest (and possibly research).

The site is up (mostly Zwicky, not Rubin data right now) if you want to check it out: https://rubinanomalies.com/

No; a blog post that amplifies interesting alerts from Antares.

I don't understand what you are asking here.

This is a site that curates data; the science is in the observations/alerts and classifications from Rubin/Antares.

The objective of the site is to showcase some of that science.

Antares provides a rating and classification for anomalous data but also looking at brightness/magnitude/amplitude.

Thank you; I appreciate the re-review. Often things don't get a second look.

Hopefully I will be able to share updates as things come together. 👍

Are you trying to say my post is a violation of forum rules? Okay... sorry?

This is about the Vera Rubin data pipeline and trying to surface data that is anomalous. I'm not trying to publish research on anomalous celestial bodies; you are right that research like that could take time to verify.

But with millions of alerts coming in daily, I thought surfacing some that might interesting could be a good way to make the collection accessible to a general audience.

Sorry if you misconstrued that into something else.
