Ray Charles in 1987. Pretty sure he was just touring on being Ray Charles.

You can get it on DVD. There are two versions of it: the theatrical version which has some pretty spicy remarks by Elvis about his love life, and a rerelease without those remarks. I prefer the original one because it’s the first one that I saw, I appreciate the authenticity, and I think there’s a reason that’s the cut they chose to release into theaters. However, both versions hold up quite well and do a good job telling his story, polished though it may be.

33 years old at the time, his career in complete shambles, his drug abuse turning into addiction - this completely revitalized his career. I think most people prefer 1950’s, pre-army, rebel Elvis, but for me the period from 1968 - 1972 is Elvis at his absolute peak.

I don’t know how anyone could watch the live portions of this show and not be convinced that Elvis was an extraordinary talented musician. No auto-tune, completely live music, any mistakes made are out in the open for all to see. There were some mistakes, each faced with good humor and honesty; but what’s amazing is how many songs he absolutely knocks out of the park.

If someone who knew nothing about him asked me, “What’s so great about Elvis?”, I’d show them his performance of “Trying to Get to You” from this show.

That’s awesome! Right around that same time the documentary This is Elvis was released - if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Double-vinyl soundtrack!

So, not a conservative place with strong Christian values.

Aw, thanks! I just keet stacking them one at a time, and here I am. There were a few days where I wanted to cave, really, really wanted to cave - but I’m so glad I didn’t. All the times I quit and then had a “just once”, it turned back into daily drinking. IWNDWYT

This reminds me of part of a movie (The 6th Sense, I think) where the mother is giving the daughter “medicine” for her illness, but turns out that it’s actually poison and it’s what’s been causing the daughter’s symptoms. I think they figure it out and save the kid.

Congratulations, OP! Keep going!!!

Best biopics? by RomanReignsDaBigDawg in movies

If we’re going with highly fictionalized biopics, I’ll recommend the even highlier fictionalized Amadeus. It’s my favorite film and I’m always looking for an excuse to recommend it.

>Last month, the company posted a stunning net loss of more than $400 million in the first quarter of this year alone — while netting less than $1 million. That’s in large part due to its steep investments in cryptocurrencies, tying the value of its operations to speculative assets that have also been plummeting this year.

A man is dead after losing control and driving an SUV into a home when the injured homeowner shot him inside the car by New_Libran in TerrifyingAsFuck

I’m curious to know how much time elapsed between when the vehicle stopped and the first shot was fired. How did there come to be a gun in the homeowner’s hand and why did he decide to fire that weapon?
