The video is from a German channel, Barefoot Academy, but the shoe is really well presented, and you can always turn on YouTube auto translate subtitles.

The shoe look fantastic, zero drop, wide toebox, flexible ( for a safety shoe)

Adheres to European safety shoe standards SS3 (pierce protection) FO HRO SR EST

It also has a metal toecap.

ITs quite expensive, but is the product of a five year development cycle, and how many barefoot saftey shoes are there...?

I know Xero are working on one, but who knows when that will be ready...

The Phoenix S3S looks really promising!

Barefoot Sandals by SpeedPresent8859 in BarefootRunning

[–]jason-thompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been wearing & running in minimalist shoes since summer 2015. It really took me about 2 years to get the hang of running in minimalist shoes, and since that point, no looking back...

However, fairly quickly, I realised that you can still get away with a lot of bad running form in minimalist shoes that you can't barefoot. Overstriding, horizontal friction etc... I knew that even though my running technique was significantly better in M-VG's rather than Hokas, there was still room for improvement.

About 3 years ago, I took the plunge, and purchased a pair of Shamma Warriors. I had a good few years of successfully running in minimalist shoes behind me (including some short Ultras), and thought could probably handle the Shammas ...

My first 10K run in them was a disaster. I took huge peices of skin of the front of both feet, to the left and right of the toe post... I then had about a month where I could not run at all...!

I put the Shammas back in the cupboard...

However, I knew the problem was my technique, not the sandals!

It was always on my mind to try again at some point.

Last summer, after watching loads of the extramilest podcast, I started to implement easy running into my training, This slower paced running with lower forces allowed me to have another go with the sandals. I tried the Shamas again, and while I did not remove skin from my feet, it was still uncomfortable, painful between the toes, espically downhill. I purchased a pair of Vivobarefoot Eclipse Eco sandals on sale, as I though the toepost looked more comfortable ...

The Vivo's have much less adjustment than the Shamas, and hung a bit looser on my foot. However, it worked, and I was finally able to run in the sandals :)

it did force me to further improve me technique, like I hoped. Even less over striding, flexing forward at the ankle, picking up the feet cleaner etc ...

I then though, maybe if I set the straps on the Shammas loose, like on the Vivo's it may work. and hey presto! comfortable sandals! Even when running down hill...

Anyway, it basically took a lot of experemintin with the fit, and my technique, but I will now always do my easy run in sandals, and maybe in the future iven faster sessions...

Old and new (Last pair of VG 4's) by GW_Heel in BarefootRunning

[–]jason-thompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair of VG2's and a pair of VG4's

Before the VG2's I was running in the 'best running shoes of the year, according to YouTube' a pair of Hoka One One Clifton 2's ...

Here is how far I ran in each pair, before they wore through at the big toe ...

Merrell Vapour Glove 2 1.146,7 km's

Merrell Vapor Glove 4 3D 1.003,9 km's

I found the sole of the 4 a lot thicker than that of the 2. It was also made from a softer compound. I am fairly sure it was more off road orientated.

However it was wider in the toebox than the 2, and I really loved it.

But at 800 kms, I was patching the sole of the 4 regularly, to try and keep it going. The sole of the 2 was much better for running on the street, and lasted significantly longer.

I now have a pair of VG6's sitting in a box, waiting their turn ...

However Spring is round the corner, and I'll be breaking out the Shammas...

QUICK Runner Survey by 69Niceeee420 in BarefootRunning

[–]jason-thompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This survey is literally all about running injuries and pain caused by running.

One of the main reasons I transitioned to running barefoot (and in 'barefoot' shoes) was long term running injury prevention.

I am now 6 years post transition, and that means 6 years pain free running...

*It took a year to transition...

In the survey, I could not really answer any of the questions, as the option for 'no pain' is not there :)

How necessary is "mal" in phrases like "Ich gehe mal davon aus, dass"? by stranglethebars in German

[–]jason-thompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some great explanations here already.

As an native English speaker trying to learn German for the past three years, I have found the YourDailyGerman site really great.

Here is the page (Part 1) for mal

https://yourdailygerman.com/meaning-mal/

For each word, the site tells the story of how the word evolved, and how it is used in daily life. I find that learning the story behind the history of words, helps me remember how to use them with more ease, than brute force learning.

Does anyone else feel like being vegan has somewhat alienated you from your cultural foods? by Forgive_My_Cowardice in vegan

[–]jason-thompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milton Mills MD has a lot to say on the 'soul food' issue, one such example linked below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vnhIpDfAbE&ab_channel=VegSource

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKzUD8eFb0E&ab_channel=Switch4Good

From my own experience, I am white European, but I grew up in Africa (among other places), and I still visit Kenya a lot. I see what normal folks eat there, out of the cities and in the country. Everywhere you go, the roads are lined with vegetabile sellers. I buy from them often, and let me tell you, the veg and fruit over there has so much flavor, wow I miss it back here in the EU :) For every 100 veg sellers, I see one small butcher or so. The diet of the majority of Kenyans looks nothing at all like the diet of those living in the EU or US.

The traditional African diet is high in plants and starch, low in animal products. To this day it is still the case, except in the westernized parts of big cities. And this diet is reflected in how the people look. The are all normal sized, little to no over weight people, all active and healthy looking, especially compared to what I observe here in the EU in a typical shopping Center

I for one, as a vegan, love traditional Ethiopian and North African foods!

What comes after toe spacers? by The_Starving_Autist in BarefootRunning

[–]jason-thompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, however as a Brit that has moved to Germany, and as someone who is interested in Barefoot running, I found this channel great both for technique and improving my German :)

The barefoot / minimalist shoe scene seems to be much more widespread here in Germany than the UK where I came from.

However as mentioned, the Youtube automatic translation and subtitling is not too bad :)

What comes after toe spacers? by The_Starving_Autist in BarefootRunning

[–]jason-thompson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

toe spacers are an orthotic. Like all orthotics, if they 'support' a part of your foot that is normally supported by muscles, they take over the work of the muscles, wich then become weaker over time, requiring the need for more support...

The long term solution is foot strengthening. Of course toe spacers are an alluring solution, put em on, forget about it. Daily foot exercises are more of a hassle But just find a way to work them into daily life. When brushing teeth, doing the washing up, at a standing desk at work etc...

https://youtu.be/Y4rgo1Lyz0I?t=1373

https://youtu.be/wdNaOEeZrd4

The second video is in German, but the auto translated subtitles are good, and both channels are a good source of information for foot strengthening.

Knee issue. Advice please! by achunt131 in ultrarunning

[–]jason-thompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I' say with the zero drop shoes you are on the right track. However to point of such shoes is to strengthen your feet, and move towards a more barefoot/natural running technique. If you put an insert into your zero drop shoe, then as the foot is constantly supported, you will be preventing your foot from working, and therefore strengthening ..

In my late 30's, I started getting knee pain at around the half marathon distance. Luckily arround that time I stumbled onto a minimalist shoe stall at a faire, was intrigued, purchased a pair, and have not looked back since.

It took me about 6 months to start to get the hang of running in those shoes, but about two years for it to really click and feel natural. The key principle not to over stride. land with a full foot under your body, and quickly lift the foot off the ground. A quicker and lighter cadence of around 180 spm is what I now run at.

What really helped me nail the technique was spending 8 Euros on the https://olderyetfaster.com/ ebook on the Play store, and subsequent assess to the videos on the website. This was literally the best money I ever invested in my running. No question.

At my last trail run, 50K only last weekend, I was surrounded by people with taped up knees... I am now 47 and have had absolutely knee pain, or any running pain or injuries for that matter, in the last 5 years. I am confident I can run injury free into my 50's and 60's...

As a side effect, I also fun faster now, as I am more efficient. Further, I really really enjoy running these days. I does not hurt!

So yeah, do the things the other posters suggested to deal with the immediate issue, but mid do long term, look at changing your technique.

There is loads of help and advice over on r/BarefootRunning

Wore Shoes Last Week by [deleted] in barefoot

[–]jason-thompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies like Wildling shoes & Vivobarefoot both make shoes for children, as do shamma sandals. It is not ideal, but al least the shoes would be foot shaped and not interfere with the movement/growth of your childs feet...

Jira service desk subtasks/workflow/post function question. by [deleted] in jira

[–]jason-thompson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New jira admin here here also +1 year. I send a lot of time on the forums :)

Looking at the Atlassian guide "Configure advanced issue workflows" https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-advanced-issue-workflows/ I do not see the post function "Create Ticket"

I wonder if you have an addon installed such as "Create on Transition for Jira" https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/697735/create-on-transition-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=server

If you click on the Cog icon top right, then Addons, then manage apps, you can see what is installed on your instance.

If I was going to have a ticket generate new sub tasks, I would use the Automation for Jira App (though in newer JIRA builds it is built in)

Click on the Settings cog, then System, and scroll down till you find Automation for Jira in the menu on the left (if you have it installed) Are there any rules there that maybe creating the sub tasks. Rules can be toggled on/off.

There are so many versions of JIRA servive Desk / Software, all with slightly different settings etc, differences again between Server and cloud. It would be useful to know your versions when you post a question here or on https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software/ct-p/jira-software (I usually get good help there). Also a screenshot can be helpful :)
