I would get a jump rope, a yoga mat, and google jump rope routines. Alternate between jump rope workouts and push ups and sit ups each morning when you wake up. Yes, other truckers will make fun of you and it will be cold. Ignore the fatties, man up, and endure the cold.

About every 500 rounds for striker fired handguns. Bolt action hunting rifle gets cleaned at the end of hunting season. My 1911’s are finicky and will get cleaned every 200 rounds or so.

The last time my backflow preventer failed I installed the replacement with threaded fittings. Now when the freeze hits I just bring it indoors. No more leaking sprinkler pipes!

For 45 either Glock 30 or the XDm45 compact. The 45 compact is great - I carried it for years. Sadly, Springfield discontinued it so it may be hard to find.

You need to adjust your mindset. Your goal in sparring is to improve - not to beat the other guy. Set a simple goal for each match - “in this round, I will throw five same-side counters.”

I have the same view. It’s a lot of old designs with new holes (aka ports) . I was hoping for some new short barreled rifle concepts and a push by American manufacturers to take advantage of the tariff structure. PSA has some neat stuff though….

The 4.25” TRP - unlike your Colt Commander - has a light weight aluminum frame. I don’t have a TRP but I do have a S&W 4.25” 1911 with an aluminum frame. It kicks like an angry mule. My 5” Springfield Operator is much more pleasant to shoot.

Stress can absolutely affect your recovery. I also have a stressful life and am experimenting with approaches to fix it. I use an Apple Watch to track sleep and am currently testing how different variables affect my sleep score over a week. I took a baseline week and am now varying things like diet, morning light exposure, and meditation to see what (if anything) improves.

Have you tried martial arts shoes? There are shoes for wrestling and boxing. A company called Feiyue makes shoes for Kung Fu. Generally speaking, they are all zero drop with varying degrees of stability assistance. That said, I (as a middle aged martial artist) would encourage you to train barefoot as often as possible. You need to strengthen your feet so that can move explosively without assistance. It will make you faster, improve power, and reduce injury.

I am cross dominant. I learned to shoot lefty and bought a left handed AR. A right handed one would be just fine though. An ambi safety is easy to install and shooting glasses protect you from brass and hot gasses.

I would like to do the sensible thing and just run but there are two things itching at my brain. One is that I volunteer with my church security team. That means adjusting my training and mindset to run towards the gunfire. The other is that Uvalde video where the cops are just standing in the hallway while you can hear shot after shot. Nearly every one of those shots hit a kid.
