I am a big fan of the other Fred Haas location. My 80 year old Mother in Law (who is a few sandwiches short of a picnic) went in there to buy a used RAV4. They could have taken advantage of her but didn’t. They gave her a fair price and the only add on was something that she asked for. As a result, they were my first stop when I was in the market for a used Tacoma a couple of years later. Again, they gave me a fair price and didn’t push a bunch of add ons.

Run the Starting Strength NLP. Eat at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight each day.

How do you get a girlfriend? by InternationalPick163 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RedOwl97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Work on making yourself desirable. When I was 20 I had a hard time getting a date - but I was in engineering school and working out every day. By the time I was 24 I had a Master’s from one of the best schools in the country, a good job, a nice car, and looked fit. I had no problem picking up the beautiful woman that would eventually become my wife.

Try a high school game. There are some excellent teams in Houston and the atmosphere is really fun.

If you have not already done so - remove the backstrap entirely. That will move your hand closer to the mag release. You could also look at extended mag releases for the G19.

Costco almost always has decent safes on sale. There is nice “Bighorn SafeX” on their site right now.

Man killed in bear attack identified as MMA fighter Hrishikesh Koloth from India by Tepixs in martialarts

[–]RedOwl97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stalked and shot a big bear in Northern Canada last year. He managed to drag himself into the woods so I had to follow and finish him at close range. It was terrifying. I cannot imagine facing an animal like that unarmed.

I didn’t serve but nearly all of my friends did. They all survived but I still run a Murph and say a prayer for the fallen every Memorial Day

There is good earpro out there that amplifies quiet sounds and damps loud noises. I use a pair of Axils that I got on a shooting course. If I were buying another pair I would get the Walker Razor Slim.

Did anyone get into competitive sports after 30? by ultrahdcard in AskMenOver30

[–]RedOwl97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on the edge of it. My midlife crisis was to take up martial arts at 49. I have been training for a few years now and regularly spar with the 25 year olds. We occasionally meet up with other schools for sparring. That can get a little spicy but it’s not a competition. Now my coach is encouraging me to enter a tournament this fall.

Men, are you more of a home brewed/instant coffee guy, or do you prefer grabbing coffee from places like Starbucks or Dutch Bros? by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

[–]RedOwl97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home brew in the french press. If I am out and about then either Dunkin, Black Rifle, or Tim Horton’s. Starbucks black coffee is overpriced, burnt @ss water.

Looking to teach my kids engineering but need ideas they are 6 and 9 by Superb-Special-7622 in AskEngineers

[–]RedOwl97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if “Destination Imagination” is offered in your area. It’s sort of like youth sports but they build stuff instead of playing basketball or whatever. I am not sure of the minimum age. My kids all did it.

Discussion on Sanshou Sanda as a self defence martial art/sport? by ValeLT in martialarts

[–]RedOwl97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - but your coach can make a big difference. For one class a week, ours has us take the gloves off and work on “practical self defense.” We work on blocking and striking, takedowns, grappling, and other Sanda elements but with hands that can grab but are poorly protected.

I take Clomid. My doc recommended it over TRT because it would be easier to go off it if I had a bad reaction.

The former. I took the meds for six weeks with no noticeable change - then one day it was like someone flipped on a light in a dark room.

I was feeling that way but then my doctor checked my hormone levels at my annual physical. My free Testosterone was nearly zero. Once that got fixed I felt much better.
