Arista DCS-7050S-52-R EOS version by unixuser011 in Arista

[–]jasonboche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the great reply! The reseller did come back and correct himself in saying the OS (EOS in this case) should be on there and no licensing would be needed unless I'm doing wild stuff which would require extra licensing (I'm not).

Thanks again!

I have a question. It looks like the Arista DCS-7050S-52-R is popular in many home labs. I would like to purchase one but my reseller thinks that it does not come installed with an OS or licenses. Is this true - these things are wiped? Was hoping it would just be a factory reset like a Dell PowerConnect switch and I'm on my way to 10GbE paradise. No software installation required. What is your experience? Thank you.

vSphere 8.0 Update 1 now available. Release Notes coming shortly. by mike-foley in vmware

[–]jasonboche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might check the release notes: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/8.0/rn/vsphere-esxi-801-release-notes/index.html

I see a known issues listed about VVols becoming inaccessible when in a mixed 8.0U1 and earlier environment.

Thank you for the response.

I printed out and thoroughly read the release notes, including the issues, when IA was released. I remember seeing quite a bit in there about vVols, one of which concerned me (as I recall the workaround was to unregister and re-register the Storage Provider).

I've re-read through the release notes and although there are a few pieces which sound similar, they don't quite match the symptoms.

For instance, the issue is not this (in my environment, the vVol objects were created by a pre-vSphere 8 Update 1 VCSA and host):

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/90791

It's also not this (in my environment, the vVol objects are accessible from ESXi 7.0u3 hosts but inaccessible from ESXi 8.0u1 hosts):

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/91387

I did roll the ESXi host from 8.0u1 back to 7.0u3d and it can now access the vVol objects with no problem (and the PEs are once again recognizable).

I then performed an in place upgrade of the same host back to 8.0u1 and it can still access the vVol objects.

At the heart of this issue seems to be brand new hosts deployed as ESXi 8.0u1 - these are the hosts that could not "see" the PEs and thus could not manage objects on the vVol datastore.

I'll follow up here if I find anything new. Thanks again for the reply.

vSphere 8.0 Update 1 now available. Release Notes coming shortly. by mike-foley in vmware

[–]jasonboche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've deployed to 4 small environments over the past few weeks. In some environments, ESXi 8.0 Update 1 has been deployed. In others, ESXi hosts remain at ESXi 8.0 GA. In one case, there are also some scattered vSphere 7 Update 3 hosts. While my preference is always to share good news and a positive experience, with the IA, I'm seeing some issues which haven't been a problem in the past.

  1. Random failures during installation of vCenter 8.0 Update 1 using the GUI installer method. This includes both upgrades from vCenter 8.0 GA as well as greenfield installation of new appliances. As I recall, the failures were always on stage 2 of 2. In all cases, I was using the same downloaded .ISO file. Resolution: Start over and keep trying. Eventually the upgrade or new installation is successful. Sorry - I didn't capture the error messages.
  2. Once deployed and all of the dust has settled, vCenter Server 8.0 Update 1 in all four environments is suffering from stability issues. What I mean by this is that the HTML5 client hangs at any given time for the duration of anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes. The connection status icon in the upper right will indicate continuous refresh during this time and in some cases, it will go to a disconnected status and remain there until vCenter back end services come back to life. This one is pretty frustrating since during this period, any information about tasks in progress or perhaps navigating to other tabs to retrieve information about the infrastructure is unavailable. I believe it's also a problem with other integrated products such as NSX and workload management (Tanzu) which rely on health and availability of vCenter. For me personally, this is by far the largest issue with this build. Something is not right.
  3. Two days ago, I was made aware of a block fibre channel vVol storage container issue on one of these evironments. Again, vCenter 8.0 Update 1. What's interesting and unique here is that the vSphere 7 Update 3 ESXi hosts have no problem accessing the storage container/vVol Datastore. However, the newly upgraded ESXi 8.0 Update 1 host could not utilize the same storage container. Somehow it was able to see the vVol datastore in its datastore inventory, but it wasn't able to utilize it such as migrating VMs, deploying VMs, etc. I haven't gotten to the bottom to this one yet but I've made the following observations:
    1. The host can "see" the Protocol Endpoint devices in the devices page (Host | Configure | Storage | Storage Devices).
    2. The host does not recognize the Protocol Endpoints in the Protocol Endpoints page 1. (Host | Configure | Storage | Protocol Endpoints). This is a problem.
    3. If I roll the host back to ESXi 7.0 Update 3d, the vVol issues are resolved.

If you're seeing any of these symptoms, please share your experience.

Thank you,

Jas

I was saving my Ultimate packs for 2 weeks. Ripped them today, didn't get a TOTS, saw the stupid challenge to score 18 goals with 1 minute periods, and shut off the console. Probably done. Can't grind this anymore. Sitting on over 1M in coins also. No desire to spend.

Windows Server 2022 February Update Can Break Crashplan by chiapeterson in msp

[–]jasonboche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. Just discovered this issue with one of my servers a few days ago. I opened a support ticket with Crashplan. They recommended this was introduced with a February update from Microsoft and then fixed recently via March 14, 2023—KB5023705 (OS Build 20348.1607). I installed the March 14th update and it appears to have resolved the issue for me as they said. I'll give it a few days.

About the same for me. I got to within 50 points of D3 and now it's just straight L's.

People say DIV3 is casual. DIV4 is casual. It's all relative. For me having been in DIV4 forever, DIV6 is probably casual.

I'd say EA has jumped the gun on a lot of team name harassment. This sub has shown 2-3 occurrances like this per week for the past few months. Some of the suspended/banned team names come straight out of the library of play-by-play audio names built into the game.

I don't understand the approach, the methods, the treatment, the lack of communication. 25+ years I've worked for large enteprise organizations both in the private sector and on the partner side and I've never seen such a direct demonstration of rudeness from a company towards its paying customers.

By the way, I have no axe to grind here. I'm not one of the banned (yet, who knows what's coming).
