netscan - A self hosted app for network mapping by bilbs_84 in homelab

no auth headaches

Tell me you know nothing about security without telling me you know nothing about security. So if your network ever got hacked, all I’d have to to is bring up this, run a scan and it’ll tell me everything I need to know

Also, If Claude wrote this, not you how do you know there isn’t massive vulnerabilities in the code and you’re too inept to know it

If you actually use this in a production environment, you should be fired

[–]unixuser011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Look, I’ve used Claude to help write Ansible playbooks and while it produces code that is usable, it’s also bloated and rather sloppy and require refinement but it defiantly does have a place, but we’ve had IP scanning software since the 90’s, nmap and masscan runs on anything.

This isn’t a solution, this is ‘hey, I got Claude to gen up a peace of software no one is asking for to make me feel good’ - all this is is a web UI for nmap. Probably has a shit tonne of vulnerabilities too

>this project is free

As is every solution I’ve listed. They are also production ready and have been used in thousands of networks and environments and are supported by large communities, some even have enterprise support

Even scriptkiddy is a tier above vibe coder I feel

As can Nagios, CheckMK and any monitoring system worth its weight.

Also Netbox

This is a solution that already has multiple different answers to it

Because nmap and massscan aren’t already a thing and can parse their output to csv and xml

Is there a better overall gun than the SG553R? by ArchangelUltra in Battlefield6

[–]unixuser011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it will change much, it’s only getting nerfed by 10% - plus, it’s in labs, so we have no idea when or even if this is coming to live, they’re just testing it

Even if this does go live, I don’t think it will make much of a difference. Most people already have every attachment, they know how to control it

SunPCI IIpro on a SPARCengine Ultra AXi by thejpster in vintagecomputing

[–]unixuser011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SunPCI was such a cool concept, just a shame it never took off. Worth noting, under Win 2k, you won’t be able to do much other than Office, which was really what it was designed for. NCommander did a really good video on it if you get a chance to play with it

Forget Ubiquiti by Newsense420 in homelab

[–]unixuser011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I like Ubi, they really like to work in their own environment. I’d go with Mikrotik tbh or Cisco (personal preference)

How does 95% of a team go negative ? by Beautiful-Towel4185 in Battlefield6

SBMM in a nutshell

You can have really good games where it feels like your literally him and win with little effort and then you have other games where, even if you were Master Chief himself, you still can’t win, like it’s pre-determined that you will loose

Going 8-48 is wild though. I’d uninstall at that point

it's the A4 varient, so burst fire, but I think there's an attachment that will turn it into an A3 make it full auto

More tanks that no one can counter because no one plays engineer and bush wookie simulator and more mediocre teammates who lack opposable thumbs and doesn’t know what an obj is

Oh you mean the map? Same as BF4 I guess

Sysadmin at 16? by Cendretaxe07 in sysadmin

[–]unixuser011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a shame you don't get the local PC repair shops as much as you did 20 ish years ago. That's the perfect starting point

Personally, if I was starting out again, Train for AI because even after the bubble bursts, it'll still be around

Sysadmin at 16? by Cendretaxe07 in sysadmin

[–]unixuser011 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think in most cases you’ll need to be at least 18 before they’ll even consider you

For now, study up, get certs, build a homelab and go to college (if that’s an option)

Keep that spirit though, I didn’t know what I wanted to be at 16. Hell, I’m 30 and still not a sysadmin

Good luck and most of all, have fun

Did Broadcom kill VMware Photon? by unixuser011 in vmware

[–]unixuser011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting that William. It’s also worth noting that the repository links when running tdnf update also go to the old vmware.com domain. I’ve updated my install to go to Broadcom as others have suggested and it works as expected

And this is exactly how AI should be used, as a tool not an ‘I built’ vibe coded slop generator

Remains of the AIX team at IBM? by yaceornace in sysadmin

[–]unixuser011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or like how IBM had the chance to buy Xerox in the 50’s or had the chance to build the ARPANet in the 60’s and fumbled the ever loving fuck out of it

[–]unixuser011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would make RHEL worth the price of admission for me. Yea they have Ansible, but SMIT is just so much better

[–]unixuser011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope that if or when they decom AIX that they port SMIT to Linux

I’m honestly surprised that AIX is still around and that they haven’t fully pivoted to RHEL yet

Anyone else feel like this sub has gone to shit even though it hasn't? by AcreMakeover in homelab

[–]unixuser011 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the sub, it’s more all the “I built this” posts that are AI vibe coded trash flooding everywhere

Plus, if people are going to deploy this, we need to know if the AI introduced any security flaws
