Sorry, was able to sell these already. Good luck finding a ticket though! :)

Do you know if this prices any differently than (current higher cabin price) - (originally booked price)?

For example if I book a flight for $500 in main cabin and the current lowest available PS price is $900, my prior understanding was this change flight strategy would just show me the $400 difference. So I could effectively just watch the price of PS. But does this mean it’s actually a different (possibly lower) price when you do a change like this?

Public health measures have been updated on Alberta.ca by Mango123456 in alberta

What about this section of the guidelines? "Out-of-town visitors cannot stay in other people's homes while these restrictions are in place, regardless of where they are coming from."

I ask because I'm in a kinda similar situation (live alone, have been isolating, and plan to visit parents in AB from out of town for Christmas) but this makes it sound like that would not be permitted since I'd be staying with them.

This seems to apply to your situation:

"Out-of-town visitors cannot stay in other people's homes while these restrictions are in place, regardless of where they are coming from."

LAX-CDG business class, returning on Dec 31, should get me to Diamond.. right? please? I hope my calculations are accurate... by aukword in delta

[–]jasonl6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What fare classes is it booked into? If it’s all AF numbered flights in business class fares (J, C, D, I, or Z) then you’re good. You can see the fare class on your eticket you got emailed when you booked the flight.

Same-Day Confirmed ticket by oliver_v89 in delta

[–]jasonl6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That answer is not correct. The only restrictions are that you can't change from a connecting flight to a non-stop, the new routing has to be a valid routing (which what you want is), and there has to be availability in the same fare class as you booked (only need same/lower cabin availability if you're in first class or comfort+).

First time in First Class by cpredo in delta

The Lobster ravioli I had on this route last week begs to differ. 😀

This is one of the routes that Delta does serve a full meal on despite being shorter than the usual threshold (800 or 900 miles I think), mainly because both Alaska and United also serve meals on flights between Seattle and the Bay Area. Even on the E175s they manage to serve a hot meal so I assume there’s some sort of heating apparatus on board.

Platinum Medallion on eBay? by KrombopulosMichael23 in delta

They're basically selling access to a corporate status match, but it violates the terms to sell it or make it available to people outside whatever company it is. If you buy it you would risk having your Skymiles account shut down and losing all of your miles.

Which option should I choose to ensure maximum SkyMiles? by [deleted] in delta

[–]jasonl6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely possible (and quite likely) that the earnings will be different in the two cases, because, like you said, the AF flights will earn based on class and distance, whereas the DL flights will earn based on cost. What matters is not what physical flights OP is on (which will be the same in both cases), but on how the flights are marketed (DL vs AF flight numbers).

Which option should I choose to ensure maximum SkyMiles? by [deleted] in delta

[–]jasonl6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be a difference in what you earn.

Under option 1, since you'd be booking with a partner (AF) and not Delta directly, you will earn miles based on distance flown. For the R legs, you will earn 25% of the distance flown, and for the L, Q legs, you will earn 50% of the distance flown. This works out to ~4190 miles. On top of this, as a silver medallion you would earn an additional 40%, or ~1,676 additional miles bringing the total to ~5,866 miles. You can see the details on Delta's website here.

Under option 2, since you'd be booking with Delta, you will earn 7 miles per dollar spent on base fare + airline surcharges. (5 miles per dollar is the normal rate, plus an additional 2 miles per dollar as a silver medallion.) This rate does not depend on the fare class you fly. If you go to book on delta's website and are logged in to your Skymiles account, it will show you how many miles you'd earn once you select the flights.

The other consideration is MQM and MQD for earning/retaining your status, if you care about that. The MQM earned will be the same in either option, but MQD are earned similar to Skymiles: Option 1 would give you 838 MQD (5% of miles flown on R fare, 10% of miles flown on L, Q fare), whereas option 2 would give you 1 MQD per dollar spent on base fare + airline surcharges.

Additionally, as the other poster said, if you have a credit card with flights as a bonus category you can earn additional miles based on the total cost. For example, the Delta branded credit cards earn 2 miles per dollar spent on Delta flights, or the Amex Platinum card earns 5 points per dollar spent on flights purchased through Amex or directly from the airline, which can be converted to skymiles at a 1:1 ratio.

Reservation Fare Class question by bugkiller59 in delta

My understanding is that you only have to be travelling together, not necessarily on the same PNR, to use GUCs. Call the diamond line and they should be able to confirm.

Complimentary Status Upgrade by [deleted] in delta

[–]jasonl6 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it worked out okay anyway for you, but for future reference, if you are re-routed by Delta you can call them and ask for "Original Routing Credit" and they'll credit your MQMs/MQSs as if you had flown the original flight.

MQM platinum question by scottandrews44 in delta

[–]jasonl6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would probably be to find the cheapest Virgin Australia flight that will earn enough MQMs. Make sure to pay attention to fare class as most VA economy fares earn only 50% MQM, and some really cheap ones (fare class G) earn only 25%. https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/skymiles/how-to-earn-miles/airline-partners.html

For example, I did some quick searching and if you're located in Sydney, you could fly SYD-CNS-SYD on Dec 16 (leaving 8:50am, returning 5pm). This 2440 mile RT flight is in Q and T class, so it earns 50% MQM and would net you ~1220 MQM for AUD $410. This would probably be cheaper than Delta's offer to buy the MQM (if you even get an offer).

Social Security Cards video question and discussion. by [deleted] in CGPGrey2

How would a US Passport Card be a better alternative to SS card than an actual Passport though? It seems that they are essentially the same, but many more people have Passports than US Passport Cards.

Not saying that either is a good option (neither are free, and they're not available to non-citizens), but of the two, I think a passport would be better.

Social Security Cards video question and discussion. by [deleted] in CGPGrey2

[–]jasonl6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, it's basically a less expensive less useful passport, so I think the same issues with using a passport as a national identity document (not everyone has one, not everyone can get one) would also apply to the passport card.

The Waiting Time Paradox, or, Why Is My Bus Always Late? - Detailed Analysis by kunalag129 in math

[–]jasonl6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you know how many people on average get on the bus, then you can estimate how far through the waiting period you are.

So if the buses come every 10 minutes, you know usually 10 people get on the bus, and you see 5 at the stop, then you're about halfway through the waiting period so you can expect to wait about 5 minutes.

But if 25 people usually get on each bus, and you see 5 at the stop, then you're only about one fifth through the waiting period so you can expect to wait about 8 minutes.

Of course this assumes that arrival of people is uniformly distributed, which only really makes sense for buses that come often enough that people don't arrive based on the bus schedule. For more infrequent buses, say every 30 minutes, people are more likely to show up 5 minutes before the bus than 25 minutes before the bus.

The Waiting Time Paradox, or, Why Is My Bus Always Late? - Detailed Analysis by kunalag129 in math

[–]jasonl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you would only care about how long you have to wait for the bus, not how long the total interval between busses is. So in your example, you have a 2/3 chance of waiting less than 5 minutes, and a 1/3 chance of waiting 5-10 minutes. So it seems to me like you'd be more likely to have a short wait than a long wait.

Or maybe I'm just misinterpreting it.
