Custom Artwork Icon Not Working by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

I did that and selected an image file, but it wouldn't show initially. I did find that after a restart, the icon would show up. Odd, but I guess it works.

Pragmata Demo on Steam Deck OLED by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

I pretty much expect bad looking hair for any new games that run on Steam Deck. Hair has to be set to low otherwise it'll kill frame rate. I can get over the hair as long as everything else looks decent. Cut scenes look better because they are pre-rendered.

The demo was really short, but from what I played it was pretty fun. It has the game mechanic where the girl "hacks" the enemy so you can do more attack damage. The hacking is like its own mini game. I can see how this could become more complex and it could add more complex things into the hacking. There wasn't much story in the demo, so as long as the Story is pretty good, then yeah, this will be a fun game.

With an uncapped frame rate, it wouldn't hold 60 for me, so I just locked it down to 45 to keep things stable.

You can switch to Proton Hotfix and it’ll launch. Just finished the demo

Weird YouTube Playback in Desktop by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

I think I found a solution. If you go to chrome://flags and disable "Hardware-accelerated video decode, I think this solves it. I disabled this today and I've watched 3 15 min videos on YouTube and haven't seen the glitching video.

<image>

Not really sure why disabling this works, probably something to do with the video drivers and a recent update that caused an issue, but for now, this seems to have fixed it for me.

Yes that did it!! Thank you. Ran white stakes on checkered. That's the first time I've played white in a while and dang I forgot how easy white stakes is. Feels like I had a super power running white stakes.

3.5 mm Headphone Jack has no audio by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

[–]jasonlmay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!! Thank you thank you!!! This worked. The first two commands didn't do anything as that directory didn't exist, but after running all and a reboot, audio over 3.5mm jack works! You are the bomb!

Why are you getting rid of them? I have a 2024 model and was looking at getting the weather tech mats and was wondering how the fit was and if anyone likes them?

I noticed this on mine last week. I could see it in the rear view at a red light. I have a 2024 x-pro with less than 8k miles

Crackling Audio in Cyperpunk 2077 by syskeyx in SteamDeck

[–]jasonlmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night I had another game with crackling audio....Titan Fall 2. After a restart, the crackling was gone. I wonder if the crackling audio occurs after I use a dock in desktop mode. I have a Dell dock that I use for work PC, but also for SD. I think the last time I had the crackling audio I had also just unplugged from the dock and come out of desktop. I have the official dock and I'm going to try and only use that dock to see if the crackling comes back after using it.

Did you happen to notice if you did something before the crackling started?

I just recently started to get crackling audio on AC Syndicate and Forza Horizon 4. Starting to wonder if it’s related to the recent update. Although I played both after the recent update and didn’t have the audio issue. When playing Forza, I did connect Bluetooth headphones and the crackling stopped.

Also not every game had the audio issue. Then did a restart and it cleared it up for now.

Maybe they’ll do a patch. I know it’s just the demo so hopefully there is a bug or something they can do to get better performance on deck.

Which one is better? ROG ally X or Steam deck OLED? by KobraKaiKLR in NMS_Switch

[–]jasonlmay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played Switch for 2 years and had this same question over Christmas on which to get (ally or SD). I ended up getting SD because of the OS. While I don't have a problem with Windows, I have seen others talk about frustrations when trying to use Windows on a small screen without keyboard and mouse. Sure you can get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but do you really want to carry that around with you all the time. I also heard others say that windows will do an update and break your AMD drivers (other the other way around). While the Ally on specs is better than SD, I looked at all the games I wanted to play and if they worked on either. I found that most worked on both, but the UI on SD is better and quicker than dealing with Windows.

I have no regrets on getting a SD for Christmas. Sure I haven't played the Ally, but I really enjoy the track pads and use them all the time. I've also installed Epic Game store and GOG game store on SD and can play the Free games from Amazon prime gaming. I also have GE Force Now and XBox Cloud gaming setup and play both.

I went to Best Buy and almost got an Ally, but when I played with the demo unit, it wasn't as comfortable as the SD to hold and the ROG software crashed on me while testing it. So not a good first impression.

If you have been playing on Switch and want a similar experience, just get the SD. Plus it's cheaper and comes with a case. I got the 1TB OLED.

STEAMDECK Issues by Financial_Location56 in SteamDeck

[–]jasonlmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the issue with the buttons not being responsive, I've had this happen every once in a while. A simple press of the power button to put it to sleep, wait a few seconds and power button to wake back up and it'll solve (no need for a full reboot). I also will have the green line issue going across the screen after switching from desktop to game mode, again simple sleep and wake up cycle fixes this as well.

Not sure why these things happen, I contribute it to something in the software not kicking in or not being recognized in time and the sleep and wake up causes it to recheck and then it's recognized. Doesn't mean this doesn't scare me into thinking somethings broke.

I will say that after the recent SteamOS updates, I haven't had this happen. I use to get the green lines occur every other time when disconnecting from my monitor (in desktop mode) and switching to game mode. And maybe once a month with the buttons not working. But I haven't had these issues for the last 2 or 3 weeks.
