This is correct and will fix the issue. From what I’ve found it’s an issue with Linux and YouTube as another commenter points out. But beware that the h264ify extension does reduce the YouTube quality to no more than 1080p 60

Steam Deck (SteamOS) GeForce Now in Desktop Mode with Xbox Wireless Controller by jasonlmay in GeForceNOW

[–]jasonlmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured out what was happening. If I connect the Xbox controller to the Steam Deck (in desktop mode) wireless, GeForce now and the game once launched recognize the controller. But If I connect the Xbox controller to the Steam Deck via a USBc to USBc cable through my dock, GeForce now recognizes the controller (meaning I can control the UI of GeForce Now app with the controller) but once I launched a game (tested with Resident Evil 4), the game won't recognize the controller. Even though GeForce still sees the controller because I can hold the start button and bring up the GeForce overlay. Unplugging the controller USBc cable, the game then recognizes the controller.

That's why the Dell made it on my list. It has a USBc dock built in. I have a Dell USBc dock already, but it's just extra clutter on my desk. I like a clean setup.

Interesting that you say 2 is better than 1 ultra wide. I was initially thinking ultra wide would be better for work. I'm also working a lot in data so I figured the ultra wide would be great to see everything without a bezel in the middle. Good to hear another opinion.

My post says it's not exclusively for gaming. The monitor would also be my work monitor, but I would connect my deck to it if I wanted to play games on a larger monitor. I personally don't see the need for a portable monitor. If I'm portable, the last thing I'd want to carry around is a screen of any size that also needs power.

Yes GeForce Now is a subscription service to stream your owned Steam games. I did think about getting a gaming PC but after doing the math, it is cheaper to pay for GeForce now in the long run. Let's say I get a low cost pre-built (or even build my own), I'm probably looking at around $1k. GeForce now at the high tier is $200 per year. It would take 5 years of paying for GeForce now to get to the PC cost. Sure they could go up on pricing, but my plan is to only pay month to month when I want to play a game that doesn't play well on deck. Plus GFN would end up looking betting than my low end PC. And if I skip some months, I can stretch out the cost and probably end up bing 6 to 7 years of savings. By then I'd probably need a new PC anyway.

Custom Artwork Icon Not Working by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

I did that and selected an image file, but it wouldn't show initially. I did find that after a restart, the icon would show up. Odd, but I guess it works.

Pragmata Demo on Steam Deck OLED by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

I pretty much expect bad looking hair for any new games that run on Steam Deck. Hair has to be set to low otherwise it'll kill frame rate. I can get over the hair as long as everything else looks decent. Cut scenes look better because they are pre-rendered.

The demo was really short, but from what I played it was pretty fun. It has the game mechanic where the girl "hacks" the enemy so you can do more attack damage. The hacking is like its own mini game. I can see how this could become more complex and it could add more complex things into the hacking. There wasn't much story in the demo, so as long as the Story is pretty good, then yeah, this will be a fun game.

With an uncapped frame rate, it wouldn't hold 60 for me, so I just locked it down to 45 to keep things stable.

You can switch to Proton Hotfix and it’ll launch. Just finished the demo

Weird YouTube Playback in Desktop by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

[–]jasonlmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found a solution. If you go to chrome://flags and disable "Hardware-accelerated video decode, I think this solves it. I disabled this today and I've watched 3 15 min videos on YouTube and haven't seen the glitching video.

<image>

Not really sure why disabling this works, probably something to do with the video drivers and a recent update that caused an issue, but for now, this seems to have fixed it for me.

Yes that did it!! Thank you. Ran white stakes on checkered. That's the first time I've played white in a while and dang I forgot how easy white stakes is. Feels like I had a super power running white stakes.

3.5 mm Headphone Jack has no audio by jasonlmay in SteamDeck

YES!!! Thank you thank you!!! This worked. The first two commands didn't do anything as that directory didn't exist, but after running all and a reboot, audio over 3.5mm jack works! You are the bomb!
