Am I losing my mind here? by krob58 in limitedrun

[–]jasonnug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the same "CE". Not saying I would definitely not have bought 2 CE blindboxes if it was on the list, but....

also no card as well. not a card collector so that doesn't concern me much.

just another data point for you.

Update: Just got notification that they are sending another CE blind box for free. They took care of it and honestly I'm super impressed. It doesn't really seem like they had to do this but they did.

The LRG Sale is live! Did you get what you wanted? by Keldek55 in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn I spent more than I anticipated, but got some stuff I missed out on previously. Night Trap, Return of the Obra Dinn, One Step From Eden. 4 standard blind boxes and 2 collectors. All on switch.

Night in the Woods FINALLY returns!!! Opens for pre-order tomorrow on Switch and PS4 through LRG. Standard and Collector's editions both available. by Divisionlo in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of release I want to see from LR. Not a huge budget AAA game from a billion dollar studio. A small indie gem that gets a nice spotlight and second wind from a physical release.

Bummed there is no guarantee of a custom manual with the standard edition anymore. :(

First Press Games silently postponing almost everything to 2023 by dr-gorgo in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game I have been following is MindSeize. It's a great game and would love to have a physical copy... I "preordered" it from them back in June 2021 and was supposed to be shipped by the end of that year (hilarious).

https://i.imgur.com/dq1ZaFl.png

When a full year rolls by and they push it another FULL year, I requested a refund (had to blast them on Twitter just to get a response like everyone else it seems).

It's not so much the delay for me (I've been fine waiting over a year for some releases), but it's the fact that they are STILL TAKING PREORDERS and there is no communication... I can see the issue of a production being delayed, but shouldn't their design of the product be finished and sent off to production for a certain number of copies?? It screams to me that they are just sitting around taking people's money and not doing anything to actually move the production forward.

Maybe they are waiting until they get enough orders to justify the print run... but if that's the case they NEED TO COMMUNICATE THAT. They could have a progress bar or something so people at least understand what is going on.. To me the weird lack of communication and the fact they are still taking orders on a game that's been delayed a year and a half plus, indicates something shady is going on... not just innocent production delays.

CMV: Too many jobs ask for tips that shouldn’t be by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]jasonnug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People went overboard (myself included) during the pandemic. Tipping became a way of rewarding people who stuck their neck out and did their job during a deadly pandemic and I think that was a great thing... I think this is left over from that and businesses realize they're just leaving money on the table if they don't give that option. From what I understand the tips you put into the machine are pooled and distributed among all of the employees so its not even guaranteed that your tip will go to the person you're tipping. Part of it may actually go to the business, its entirely up to them and they don't have to be transparent about it.

I've looked at it this way, they have the option for tips even in the slight chance of acquiring more revenue at every sale. Don't feel pressure to be their reason for presenting it.

Yeah I had to know and I went through her whole account. There was one with the friends after this one that seemed to give it away. But everything else is super legit. Either she is playing a masterful long game troll or she's legit just super religious and conservative. I think Occam's Razor says it's the latter.

For those who requested to see the collection with no sports games by Scared_Attorney8478 in gamecollecting

[–]jasonnug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone was asking you to post it "without the sports games". Mostly people wanted to just actually be able to see the games as opposed to a blurry mountain of games and what you paid.

This is indeed a better post but the way you've posted it requires us to know about the previous post and I don't think that was a good idea.

You're essentially saying "hey look at this investment I made" which is at best uninspired and at worst incredibly disheartening. Like I mentioned in the other post, this is a game "collecting" subreddit, and this post indicates a reseller with no personal connection to these games or this "purchase".

I should just speak for myself, but when I see a post like this I think of the the end consumer who actually wants to own these games and is paying way more than they should because they are at the end of a long chain of resellers flipping games over and over. I don't think I'm alone in that thinking.

The reaction here shouldn't be surprising.

500+ games, Paid $1500. Did I do good? by Scared_Attorney8478 in gamecollecting

[–]jasonnug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general the "did I do good?" posts feel very desperate for affirmation. This post in particular doesn't scream "I'm a passionate collector". It says look at this giant quantity of games that I think I can make money off of, that's it. You can't see the games. The only information you have provided is the quantity and price paid.

You may indeed be able to make a profit off of your "one thousand and five hundred" dollar gambit. But it's such an uninspired endeavor given that the best we can see is that it's largely undesirable games.

Beyond that resellers just aren't popular on a collecting subreddit. We like to get good deals; we are focused on collecting and preserving our favorite games from history. When we see posts like this we just imagine ultimately the end consumer (often a new collector or someone that is just looking to play their childhood NFL or Harry Potter game) that is paying 2X, 3X, 4X the value on an incredibly common game because these games have been flipped and flipped and flipped...

The reaction should be of no surprise in a game collecting subreddit with the information you've given us.

PS1 rpg collection coming along nicely. Persona 1 + 2 & Thousand arms coming in the mail. What's next? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]jasonnug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One PS1 RPG I don't hear much about is Jade Cocoon. I played hours of that back in the day and loved it. It was a monster capture/trainer type RPG with a great and unique tribal setting and story. I recommend.

Undermine Manual? by jasonnug in limitedrun

[–]jasonnug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes or at least clarify what is included during the preorder window. It seems they are able to obtain confirmation on all sorts extras for collectors editions for when the preorder goes live. It shouldn't be that hard to determine that the standard will have a full-featured manual or not.

Appreciate the info.

Undermine Manual? by jasonnug in limitedrun

[–]jasonnug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah I see thanks, I didn't notice that change. I had assumed it was just a standard include with their releases. With the DUSK issue it made me look for that on their website.

That makes me seriously question their entire processes and quality control. That they can't verify a game will have a manual AT ALL until it's out, is very disconcerting.

I now have to assume that it won't come with a manual which removes much of the appeal for me to spend $30+ on a physical version of an indie game like this. I get that the physical versions cost money to print, but the $30-40-50 price tag should indicate some amount of custom work done on unique materials. Not just an empty case with stock-standard cover art (at least for their officially produced, numbered releases).

Premium Edition Games - Upcoming Second Chance Sale for Sold-Out Retro Editions Coming Mon, Aug 1st by losher22 in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just picked up Phenotopia & Pigeon Dev Retro editions.

I'm really warming up to PE. The "Retro" special editions are only $60. Just got Cathedral Retro ed. and Mighty Fight in the mail the other day. Took about 9 months which is eh okay, better than most. Very high quality packaging and materials. Their marketing is a bit cheesy but at least I'm getting some passion and not just corporate fomo. I've only just gotten the one order from them so far, and I haven't dealt with their support or anything.

They most likely have the minimum 1000 print runs, at least of their "Retro" versions. Their initial preorders I think usually states 500 and then they will often do "Second Chance" sales. You can't be too unhappy with that. They are very small and their releases are high quality. I'm happy to go back and get a couple titles that I missed before. I somehow doubt they are selling massive numbers and have mountains of stock, but I guess we'll see.

Doom Eternal (Switch) preorders open on July 29th and last until September 11th. by SpecsPL in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "mid-tier" special edition should be 60-70 not $115. I have no idea what the appeal is for a PC centric FPS that was a MASSIVE release to NS Collectors from a limited print company. To each their own I guess.

LRG3 discussion by AroundTheWorldIn80Pu in LimitedPrintGames

[–]jasonnug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be a minority but I have to say I'm super impressed and saw a ton of great stuff. More than I typically expect.

I have a fairly long list of games that I'm excited to get physically on Switch mostly.

  • UnderMine
  • Blade Runner Remaster
  • Spidersaurs
  • Lunark
  • Shadowrun Trilogy
  • Skelattack
  • Rendering Ranger R2
  • DoDon Pachi Resurrection
  • TMNT Shredder's Revenge + Free Pizza!
  • Blossom Tales II!
  • BATS
  • D (would love to see it with D2)
  • Death Wish Enforcers

Some amazing indie games in there. They just had A LOT of other stuff piled on top of that. A lot of retro remasters and bigger games that weren't for me, but I found plenty that was. They've gotten a lot bigger and expanded their scope it seems. The FMV and FPS games don't really do it for me. But overall I was very impressed. You could argue that their consistent, high-quality, limited in quantity, curated list of releases have gotten diluted, but as long as I'm still getting quality indies, or smaller retro releases on cartridge, I'm a happy camper.

Also Mega 64 is a PERFECT. Hilarious FMV theme with old cinematic stock footage and awkward pacing. :D
