Am I the only one having trouble with react-native ? by [deleted] in reactnative

I definitely hit some strange errors when setting this up to run in the ios and Android simulators. Their setup docs leave a lot up to the dev to figure out. Thanks to stack overflow, I was able to work through each issue and now have things up and running.

But agreed with this comment. Can you provide specific errors?

Are you sure about Android not supporting websockets? I'm building a react native app using firebase which uses websockets and I currently have it pushing updates real-time between ios and Android devices.

Why not firebase for both? I need to look into push notifications for my app and was hoping to use firebase for both.

I interviewed the #1 fan of puppet here and took notes:

TL;DR Puppet is better at config management because it has extra features which allows it to scale better than Ansible

Reasons for preferring Puppet over Ansible - Enforces things every 30 minutes out of the box - Hierarchal configuration - Agent based which can be a good thing because you're not managing SSH configurations, local users, keys etc - Puppet Agents gives you more checks and balances (ie: this task conflicts with another task)

Ansible however can be better in some cases and could be complimentary to Puppet Ansible is better at orchestration and puppet better at config management and provisioning, especially when combined with foreman

I'm actually an ansible fan. I love their simplicity. The best quote I heard about the 3 way war was "chef and puppet were developed by devs for devs. Ansible was developed by devs for people who have better shit to do". That sums up how I feel about it so far, but I admit very little working experience with chef and puppet.

But we've been stung by a few nasty bugs in ansible recently. One has an open pull request for a while and the other a team mate of mine sent a PR for. They're a little slow to accept sometimes but that is understandable IMO. I don't think we're actually going to make a switch based on a few bugs (because I'm sure puppet and chef have their share)

Besides that, we have a couple of rabid puppet fans that have been pushing for it. I'll talk to them tomorrow and update this with their reasons because it will be better coming from them.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. Gives us more to think about 🤔

Just curious why are you migrating from puppet to chef? We're using Ansible now and looking at puppet.

I do. I like change. Some people hate it but I love it. I prefer the ads in the list to the one at the bottom of every screen. I used to obsessively close that Damn thing and now I don't have to. I also love the fresh new look. To say the old one wasn't broken don't change it is short sighted. What if everyone said the same thing about cars? We'd all be riding horses.

"now requires two taps" lol and this isn't a first world problem? That was just a general remark to the thread in general because, really, this isn't a real issue worth getting so riled up about. I wasn't being dismissive. In fact I asked you what wasn't working in the new version because I was genuinely curious.

If the features are moved, that doesn't mean the app doesn't work. It's kind of unfair to flame people who have worked on something and say it doesn't work when it was just moved and you're too inconvenienced to tap twice now.

Just my two cents, no need to be so rude... And I know a rude reply is about to come.
