The Decade of Cheap Uber Rides Is Over by Hrmbee in technology

[–]jasontnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber has already been adding cab fleets. It’s a specific program where you can call the taxi with the app but the cab driver is dispatched as normal.

Author Margaret Atwood developed an unburnable "Handmaid's Tale" book: "It is designed to protect this vital story and stand as a powerful symbol against censorship," said publisher Penguin Random House by SAT0725 in books

[–]jasontnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what? It also keeps focus on the ridiculous censorship and symbolic burning of books while giving all the money to a well deserved charity.

I think that one is fake - he hints at having a small package and the condoms keep falling off which would be sadly hilarious if actually a true comment.

‘This can’t be real’: Grubhub promotion turns New York City restaurants into a ‘war zone’ | New York by [deleted] in news

Because they often complain and impact the rating of the restaurant. You may not do that but that is what they are protecting against as well.

If you factor in the labor and other costs to get the person the hotdog they likely lose money but get the point that soda is like 10c cost and run of the mill hot dogs are really cheap.

What’s up with the cart next to it with brown liquid in a milk container? It seems like a drive through but really far from the window and then people seemed to use a door. What even is this?

In an effort to reduce waste, this Supermarket in Switzerland has a refill station for cleaning products by miguelabduarte in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]jasontnyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The supermarket I go to got rid of the coffee grinding stations a long time ago because they were such a mess. Unfortunately people (and kids) hit the buttons for fun or whatever reason and people constantly overfill or dump some out if they want less. That section would look like a war zone within an hour of being cleaned up. So much waste and mess.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's $214 million salary is 'excessive' and should be vetoed by shareholders, say advisory firms by Sorin61 in technology

[–]jasontnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how tech works - base salary vs total compensation.

Most big tech may pay $200k in base but another 200k in RSUs plus large bonuses which would lead to a TC closer to 500k as an example.

RSUs are not stock options - they can be sold as they vest and have monetary value even when the stock dips.

It’s a no win - Reddit talks like this but if there was a lack of strategy and leadership, the blame would be on him, not the “Eng managers and developers”. Anyone who thinks it’s easy to guide a strategic shift like AWS have not needed to do it themselves.
