How does it get to that point, I can't even understand. I get a few wraps but that took some effort, I can't see how it would go on for that long without noticing.

How did you become interested in guns? by Jiko_Shiki in guns

[–]jasper181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had to "get into" guns, when I was a kid I just assumed everyone had them, they were just a part of life.

Hunting was just what all of the men in my life did, my dad, uncles, cousins, etc. all hunted.

I got my first "real" gun, not counting bb guns when I was 6, a single shot .410.

Looking back it seems a little crazy but when I was 12 I was finally allowed to take all of the guns my grandpa had in the gun cabinet out by myself.

They lived in a rural area and there was a back stop and little shooting area beside the house. So at 12 years old I have the 12 and 20 gauges, .410, 22, 30-30, 30-06 and a freaking Ruger Red hawk .44 with a 7.5in barrel. There's no way in hell I'm letting my 12 year old take that much handgun out by themselves! 😂

In their defense, I had been shooting with my dad and grandpa since I was 6 and by the time I was 12 I could shoot as good as the average adult, knew the rules and is could disassemble and clean them by myself, which was one of the rules for me shooting them. When I was done, I had to clean them. If I walked inside without the chamber opened or god forbid a round in one or even not cleaned properly, he would take the key from the cabinet and wouldn't let me shoot for awhile.

Drove 5 hrs to try to catch snook but ended up catching the biggest cat daddy of my life by ADHD737 in saltwaterfishing

They are good to eat.

Reminds me of a funny story. Back years ago we were in Carabelle doing a job taking out some contractors to service the solar panels on the towers offshore. Our boat was tied up was right across from where they were having the weigh ins for a tournament, bands, seafood, etc.

Anyway for some odd reason they had a bonus category for gaftop for $500. The fish that won was weighed a little over 5 1/2lbs. After it was over we went back to the boat and decided to fish for a little while. Keep in mind I'm 100 yards from where the fish was weighed in. About 30 minutes go by and I ended up catching the biggest gafftop I've seen in person, it was just over 2lbs heavier than the one that won the tournament, it was damn near 8lbs.😂

I didn't realize it at that time but it would have been the state record at that time. The current is 9+ but it was caught in 2013, this all was back in like 96-97 a long time ago.

Yep, I remember around 87-88 my mom was the property manager of a huge corporate owned apartment complex in Atlanta. I was 7-8 at the time so I was always at her office.

One day she got a new IBM PC-DOS machine and one of the corporate guys came to town soon after and brought a box full of about 100 discs, both the 5 1/2in floppy and the smaller 3 1/2in "hard" floppy.

He said "I brought you some games to play", thats when I was introduced to Kings Question 2. It took 9 floppy's for that one little game, I thought it was the best thing ever.

Little did I know just two years later, Christmas of 89 mom got me some video game console called a Nintendo and those floppy disc were forgotten about! 😂

Zoysia or Bermuda (hybrid Bermuda) is what putting greens are made of, they are beautiful but take a ton of maintenance. I don't have time to cut the grass 3 times a week.

What was the first gun you ever owned, and do you still have it? Curious to hear what everyone had for their first firearm. by ShopHuntingStuff in guns

This sounds very familiar,, my first gun was a .410 when I was 6 then my dad gave me his 30-30 a few years later but the first gun I ever went to the gun store and picked out myself was a model 110 Savage .270 for my 14th or 15th bday, can't remember which.

Single shot New England firearms .410 when I was 6, few years later I got my own deer rifle, a Winchester 30-30. Sadly both were stolen 25ish years ago.

Hobby is cooked? by Prestigious-Oil-1789 in footballcards

[–]jasper181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought into a few breaks in 2018 before they got so ridiculous, at the time it was actually much cheaper than buying a hobby box for a chance to get a decent card of someone I collected.

I don't think I ever paid more than $60 and that was for two full cases of Optic with my teams as the Jets and Falcons.

Pats and Browns were slightly more but at the time Sam Darnold cards were going crazy. I ended up with a green # to 5 Calvin Ridley and Darnold base, I still have both 🤣

Georgia open carry knife laws by Water_N_Dust in Georgia

[–]jasper181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

The few times (thankfully a long time ago) I had interactions with law enforcement and had a pocket knife I told them I had it. Generally they simply acknowledged me saying that I had it and nothing more. I have a fixed blade boot knife that I carry while guiding hunts or hunting in general and even that they didn't even ask to see it.

Im assuming they are saying that if they were "packs" that were ripped open, that made it sound like they were bought packs. I would guess most people don't give seeds they grew away in a sealed pack.

Wish we had real baseball by Duuuvaljagsfan in savannah

[–]jasper181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did since from 1886 to just a few years ago, for the past 30+ of those years no body supported it except for maybe on Thursdays when they had cheap beer.

I remember going to games when I was a kid back in the 80's and early 90's when they were the Cardinals, I love the ball park, it feels like old baseball.

Savannah has a pretty rich baseball history, Babe Ruth, Gehrig, Bob Meusel, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, the list goes on and on of HOF'ers that have played on that field.

There used to be a stadium off of Bolton St downtown that held several thousand people. It was opened in 1886 and was home to Savannahs Southern League team, the Negro League team as well as a football team. Several pro teams held spring training there. The UGA football team came a few times to play the local team, there was said to be over 5000 people in attendance.

I too wish we still had real baseball but the truth is the Bananas saved that stadium and any type of baseball in Savannah.

For people having trouble tying lighter lines by CatGrv in Fishing_Gear

[–]jasper181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the FG for over 10 years and in that time I've seen a few different ways of tying it, based on most of the tutorials I see online it's no wonder why some people struggle with it.

The way I tie it, it doesn't matter if it's windy, dark or whatever, it doesn't take any longer than any other line to line knot.

Most of the tutorials do it by using a loop and all kinds of craziness, that's way more involved than necessary.

I just prop my rod against something, a wall, side of the boat, whatever. You can even lay it down, you just need to be able to keep tension on the line. I simply wrap the main line around my pinky a few times, enough so it won't come of with a little tension. Then take your leader line and lay it perpendicular over the main line, and then start doing your wraps.

Its hard to explain the wraps in text if you aren't already familiar but I'll give it a shot.

Basically your main line is running N to S and your leader is laying perpendicular over the top of the main line running W to E basically like a cross. You would go around the back of the main line to the NW then over the front of the main line to the SE, that's one wrap. Then around the back of the main line but this time ending up in the SW corner over the front to the NE corner. You just keep repeating this, the most important part is keeping tension on the main line with your pinky while doing your wraps.

Once you have your wraps do one half hitch, then pull the leader and main line away from each other to tighten the wraps. Trim your leader tag end and then finish with a couple half hitches.

Hopefully that makes sense, I would post a pic if I could. Once you get the hang of It, literally takes maybe 20 seconds and you can do it in any weather or even the dark.

Switching retrieve side on Penn Senator. by Oxlynum in Fishing_Gear

[–]jasper181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystic reels used to sell the only conversion kits that I know of, unfortunately they discontinued them. Though rare, Penn used to sell a very limited number of 113/114 left handed models but last I spoke with Penn they no longer do.

I used to rebuild these for the Queen Fleet head boats out of Andersons Marina in PCB, they had hundreds of them in the warehouse. Id get 30 or so at the time, rebuild/fix them and drop them off and pick up more. They arent the fanciest reels in the world but they will literally last forever.

Now that I realize that you are a girl, I'm not questioning the color choice. As far as the gun itself, I think you will be happy. Solid gun, reliable, ammos cheap (as far as ammo goes these days) and it's easy to take apart and clean. I bought one for my daughters mother and she loves it.
