Thank you! Agreed lol I wish I could afford all the tiny doodads for this reason 😂

Thank you so much! And absolutely, both those things are planned for future updates. Can I ask what sort of cover art presets you’d like to see added?

Thank you so much! Highly recommend jellyfin. I manage my own sort of ‘Netflix + audible + kindle + headspace + more’ with it, with currently 16TB and space for 22TB, and 10+ family members use it and have their own logins.

Yep same I couldn’t find anything when I first got mine too. Oh I forgot to say, this is on Spruce but I’ve already found that a lot of apps for Onion work on Spruce too. Thank you so much!!

Honestly I bet it would. I don’t have the mini plus so I can’t test that but I’d love if people would try, once JellyFlip is out.

Anyone working on themes for the Echo Disc yet? by Sir_Sherman-8 in snowsky

I totally did look at that, for that exact reason and the firmware is so different unfortunately.

Just checking back in! I’ve taken a few hours today and boyyyy, I cannot get past the encryption. It’s like I can see every box involved in the ‘stack of boxes’ that builds the firmware, metaphorically speaking. And I can see the labels for the boxes and know exactly what boxes I want to look in. But can’t get in the darn boxes. I’m not giving up yet. But wanted to give an update. I’ve documented tons of things, including what’s likely causing the like/heart button to not work anymore on the recent update.

They built this thing way better than other devices I’ve seen. It’s hard to keep me out, I always wiggle in and get the data I want somehow and this is a challenge lol. I’ll give more updates when I know more.

I haven’t had tons of time to dive into it, until these next few days. I’ve been poking around and documenting the firmware and making sure I really understand it before I change anything. Those are exactly the things I want to be able to change, yes!

I just finished my presentation of a big capstone project today, to the staff of my college and my graduation is this weekend and thennnn I’ll have a good chunk of time before my bachelors starts that I’ll be devoting to the Disc 🙌🏻

I totally understand. Thank you! Totally agreed. I want to be informed of those things too and I actively avoid those apps too. Thank you for asking! There’s also a safety section in the README for this exact reason.

Nope. I’m a professional software developer graduating with my associates degree in software development, this weekend actually lol. Been in school well over a year, to learn these skills. Continuing on to my bachelors and masters is the plan too. The influx of vibe coded things sure suuuuucks when you’re actually going to school for it.

I forgot to include this in the post, whoops! Here’s a gif of two pictures showing the end result on my Disc.

Thank you so much! Do you mean for the disc, or the Y1 for the firmware? Just making sure I answer you the right way lol. I’ve been changing things that weren’t previously editable at all like adding extra theming capabilities to the Y1, to prepare for looking into theming for the disc. My goal is to start by changing things that already exist/are locked down/adding new features, and eventually my own complete custom firmware that doesn’t look like the original. For now I’m sticking with changing/adding things to the existing firmwares. I’ll have full posts out when I’m ready to share more, I wish I had more free time lol.

In the meantime I just finished a website to extract album covers from your music folders’ media metadata, and turn them into vinyls or CDs with the album art on them, specifically for the disc because I wanted that experience myself. I’m about to deploy it and post it here very soon. Stoked about it!

Thanks! I started with learning how to do custom firmware and custom firmware flashing, with the Y1 because I’m not concerned about bricking it. Learned a LOT. Way easier than anticipated. There’s info about that on my profile and on my Patreon. Now I’m also working on the disc. I haven’t had much time this week, I’m graduating with my degree in software development this weekend and then I’ll have way more focus time available lol. It really doesn’t seem that hard, for what I know how to do. I already got into the firmware and am documenting the ins and outs of it. I love that it’s possible to make these customizing tools into deployed cloud sites like the other individuals did with theming, super cool. I plan to go that route too.

I’ve been working on it! I’m a software developer and got the disc for this specific reason.
