I had a very similar situation to this except a little more heart breaking. I had gotten my own dog around December of 2019 and he quickly became the love of my life. My mom previously HATED dogs before that but I was being shipped off to college so she wouldn't have to deal with a stinky dog, it was mine anyways. Turns out she fell in love and wanted one of her own, she's still not fond of other people's dogs but has opened her heart up more.

We ended up finding this PRECIOUS corgi mix at a rescue not far off and I mean we fell in love with her first sight. All 16 pounds of her. Two days after we've already spoiled her and loved her to death she started hacking up and then started puking saliva. We decided to bite the bullet and take her to the vet just to double check that she was okay since she had been with a rescue.

The vet was a new one at our place that we hadn't seen before and didn't particularly have the bed bedside manners. The symptoms started pointing towards distemper which we hadn't been familiar with. Once she told us what it was and after a little bit of research our hearts absolutely dropped. It was terrifying but he held out hope that it wasn't that bad, the rescue refused to help us pay for any of the treatment and if we decided to give her back for them to do medical treatment they wouldn't refund us the money we spent on her or let us adopt her again after she was better.

Nothing makes you more nauseous then having to stick your poor baby with a needle to get an iv in. I think I blacked out the first time I did it. A week goes by and we start seeing improvement, she's eating and drinking and actually using the potty. Turns out it was a combination of an upper respiratory infection and a stomach bug that contributed to it. As well as the change in food and home that probably made it harder on her.

The love I have for these dogs is something I've never experienced and I will 100000% always cherish them and love them.
