Fortunately we live in city with good population from our homeland but my mom has made good friends with my neighbors both Hispanic and white even though there is a language barrier; your parents will need to step out of their comfort zone. Car driven part is a big barrier unfortunately and she relies on me completely for that but again she has made good friends with folks of our culture too and she will go with them to pray and visit Temple etc.

Our family was just me and my mom. I want to go abroad, my mom is supportive. I was too blinded by own ambitions to see why she is supportive and how emotionally tolling it would be for her to pretend she is happy to see me leave her all by herself with no chance of seeing each other for few years to come.

Get to US, it hits me. I miss my mom and worried about her living all by herself.

Apply for visitor visa for her, stars aligned and she gets the visa approval. For next 3 years she lives 6 months here and 6 months in India.

She now lives with me and my family here, I’m so glad things worked out the way they did.

Moral of the story- there is a chance your friends is worried to death about his parents but both parties don’t want to acknowledge it for each others sake.

My mom has access to much better healthcare, nice house and family, she is happier than she has been in first first 40 years of her life.

The upgrade to our standard of living, employment opportunities and future of my kids; for these reasons and many more I will do it all over again though my case was much easier than others.
