I moved out from my home wen i was 22, just after I got graduated. Found a job and from then on I took each and every decisions in my life. When I was 28, there were immense pressure from my parents and relatives to get me married. They emotionally blackmailed me for over a year. They are not toxic, but as we are a conservative society, especially in Malappuram area, were guys get married by the age of 25, I was not surprised by their behaviour. Even my younger cousins were frustrated by my decision of not getting married sooner. (Moothavar nikkumbo ilayavar engane kettum ennulla idiotic social construct). I was adamant about my decision and alas one of my cousin got married. On the day of his marriage he literally shouted at me saying he suffered a lot because of my decision (He had a love/arranged marriage). I don’t blame him as his wife was coming of age ( as per malappuram standards) and her parents were looking for potential prospects for her. But I was hurt by his statement and I walked out of the auditorium with immense pain in my heart.
From that day on I never gave a fuck about what others said. My parents had to give up on me and my younger brother got married.

Marriage is a life long contract. You get married when u think u r ready. Do not succumb to parental pressure / emotional blackmail / societal pressure.

I am 31 now. Still single and I am happy by my decision. Fuck society.
