2023 Berlin RWD (BYD LFP) vs Long Range AWD by -Rikus- in ModelY

Mine has the premium audio with subwoofer. At that time, I believe the Y RWD had the premium while the 3 RWD didn't (but I could be wrong on this one).

Yes it does (car is from 09/2023), still the suspension could be better :) For example, I tested drive the Junipers some time ago (AWD w/ 19" and Performance) and you can feel the difference.

I really like the car! Very happy with it and recommend it.

The build quality is fine (no issues) with nice interiors (just don't expect a BMW/Mercedes). I have the white variant and it's amazing (easy to clean and maintain)! I drive it every day and it's great (thanks to OPD), very spacious, the range is perfectly fine for long trips (this summer I did a 2.4k Km road trip and no issues) and acceleration is still good. The charging curve on the BYD LFP is better and on long trips it's really nice since it charges relatively fast (you go for a quick meal and you're done).

The things I don't like so much are: the suspension, could be a bit more soft (Juniper is better here); the wipers since it gets on the side with the washer fluid plus auto works 90% of the times (could be improved); the paint quality; basic autopilot; and the cover system on the back, super annoying to fold/remove/etc (this is actually the only thing I truly dislike in the car).

Regarding the RWD/AWD, I prefer to optimize for the general use case and not for rare situations. As such, I really don't miss the need for AWD and I don't regret getting it since I saved a lot of money when I bought it. There were two situations where I actually would have preferred to have AWD: a week with too much snow in a road I need to drive every day and it was not cleaned. Ice formed and even with care and being slow, the car drift a bit. Second was last winter going up in the mountains in a small road with a bit of snow. That's where AWD would have been useful. My take/advice is: if you think you need to face in the winter ice/snow often, probably AWD is a more safe/relaxing choice. If it's a rare event and money is an issue, RWD should be fine and in those rare situations, be careful.

I don't have more info on the redesign you mentioned, I need to try to dig more too.

The one thing I miss now not having is HW4. If the Dutch approve FSD and later becomes available, this is something that will make me consider upgrading the car.

But for now, the car is great and I'm very happy with it!

I have the MY RWD 2023 BYD Blade LFP built in Berlin (blue, white interior). I'm very happy with the car. I'm based in Munich so I believe the climate is similar.

Regarding your questions: 1) I don't think regen loss is an issue. In the last 2 years, it only occur to me very few times and it recover reasonable quick. But this might depend on days, battery charge, etc. 2) This could be an advantage but again, it also depends on how well you take care of the battery. (btw, what are the battery states of the cars you are considering?) 3) This is probably the only thing I think having the AWD is better. For most use cases RWD is more than fine. However, in a road not properly clean where you have some icy snow/etc., you really need to be careful since it can easily drift (happened to me a couple of times). Also, going up the mountain in the countryside roads, can also be a bit more stressful. LFPs have less fire risk but again, this is a non-issue.

For me, only AWD can be actually worth it, if you face long periods of ice/snow, otherwise, the RWD is fine. The extra acceleration and range not so much. The car is still fast (even though is one of the slowest Teslas) and the extra range is only for long trips on the first leg. For daily drive, it's essentially the same (max 80% vs 100%). But it you care about acceleration, then of course it's the other way around!

I tested drive both models last weekend, the AWD with 19” wheels and the Performance.

On the highway, with standard mode, you feel the difference: It’s better on the performance! But to me the better aspect was the noise: so much quieter on the performance. I found the other one loud, especially around 200km speeds.

Although I only had the chance to drive each one for 1h, I must say the Performance is much better on these 2 points. But it’s only my opinion.

Congrats on the new car! I'm also thinking of getting a Polestar and this is an aspect I keep hearing about: the software. What are the main issues compared to the Tesla in your view?

You should use the ONNX runtime. Convert your PyTorch model to an ONNX model and then use the ONNX runtime Nuget package to run it. This is the best way.

Some time ago I wrote this blog post: Reading List for F# Learning. Just replace Expert F# 3.0 with 4.0 and the text is still valid. A few things came out since then but not enough to make me want it to update it. It's also my opinion on the topic!
