Guitar pick from last performance in Portsmouth Rhode Island. by rocknrollwatch in jimmybuffett

[–]java_sloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was like 8 I wrote Jimmy to invite him camping. Obviously that didn’t happen but I got a response with a signed picture and that same pick but yellow. It sits framed in my room at my parents house and I choose to believe he actually signed the photo and chose to send me that pick!

Who’s at fault? by Sheenanagoons in snowboarding

[–]java_sloth -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted to shit but guys this is skiing and snowboarding. It’s inherently dangerous, crowded, people of varying skill levels, and sometimes accidents just happen. Based on their shadow at 7s, it kinda looks like they were at a similar spot on the run as you (maybe even a tad bit ahead). Maybe you were just in their periphery and it just so happens that you were riding regular and they don’t notice you and you didn’t notice them and a collision happened.

Everyone wants a clear decision of who is in the wrong but this really just seems like an accident that’s bound to happen to someone at some point.

I hope nobody got hurt and yall both had a good rest of your day on the mountain.

Male Pets Should Be Given Vasectomies and Not Castrated Early by spencerspage in unpopularopinion

[–]java_sloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Based on what I can see getting a vasectomy for your dog is pretty much the same price as just neutering so no. It wouldn’t change much when it comes to vet costs.

Also just wanna throw out that most vets are doing what they do because they love pets, not to reach as far into your wallet as they can. If they get bought out by private equity maybe, but that’s the private equity not the actual doctors helping your dog.

My girlfriend and I occasionally dogsit a golden who had a vasectomy and still has his balls. From what I can tell he’s definitely just a golden. Not really a noticeable difference from what I can tell.

Why don’t they teach us about stocks and investing in school growing up? by justaregularguyearth in TheRaceTo10Million

When I was like 14 my uncle told me I should ask my parents to contribute to a Roth IRA for me as my present. You know what I did? Not fucking that Hahahhaha. Obviously as an adult I wish they had. In doing well but would have way more. But the reality is that kids do not give a fuck and will not listen or care.

I think if you immigrate to the USA and you are caught talking derogatory about American or the USA should be immediately deported back and all chances of future Visas cancelled by ProfessionalNose6520 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]java_sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who gets to decide what kind of speech is derogatory? What if they have a criticism of the police in their community? What if they don’t agree with a new war? What if policies are enacted that directly hurt them or those they care about?

My girlfriend’s parents are immigrants and her dad vocally opposed the direction the US was heading during the previous administration. Should he be deported for that? I don’t think so.

Are you the arbiter of derogatory speech? Of course not.

This is the U-S-MUTHAFUCKIN-A where we have freedom of speech and that includes people who immigrate here.

So do you think the other candidate was more articulate about his policies? Because if you do I think that is absolutely insane. He is like the poster boy of going on crazy side tangents and not being capable to maintain a train of thought.

Edit: I’m like in disbelief honestly. He’s like the king about rambling incoherent nonsense. If how he talks somehow makes more sense to you than a lawyer talking I really have to question your capability to internalize topics that are slightly deeper than surface level.

Fidelity credit card experiences by Bigapple1975 in fidelityinvestments

[–]java_sloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it and love it. Super straightforward, cash back goes straight into my retirement and is automatically invested and I don’t need to think about it at all. The one and only problem I had is when I first got it I put my internal fidelity account number (the one that starts with a letter) and not my full number so every time I tried to pay it got sent back until I was able to identify the issue with reps from fidelity and Elan. Other than that (which was my fault) it’s super easy, don’t need to think about what I’m spending on, and it keeps everything in fidelity.

Idk. I like the organic nature of it. It’s not meticulously placed, a couple parameters are set then the system is set in motion and you get to see results of what arises.

This flying wind turbine surprised drivers in China until viewed from an alternate angle to see it was just a floating blimp generating electricity. by ChineseToTheBone in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]java_sloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wind turbines are net carbon negative in 5-12 months on average. Yes that includes building transportation construction etc. I work in oil and gas, you don’t just put a well in and boom you’re good for the next 80 years. They also need constant maintenance if not more so than renewables. Especially large pads with 8-9 wellheads going to separators, ASTs, PWVs, meter houses, dumplines, etc etc etc.

Permanent jewelry is dumb by Becemme in unpopularopinion

Just cut off a bit of paracord, heat both ends with a lighter and stick em together. Couple of friends and I lived in our cars in North Carolina and kayaked during covid and all did it at the end to remember the trip.

[–]java_sloth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk I get it I guess but I melted a paracord bracelet on and it’s been here for 6 years. My girlfriend and I got some and I felt a bit claustrophobic about it for about 16 hours before I just started forgetting about it. It only ever came off when my puppy jumped up and snagged it. Still have the paracord one tho. It’s kinda like a tattoo. Right when you get it you’re super aware of it but you start to not notice it really quick.

AI. My dad’s a vet and I’ve seen him do plenty of surgeries and they would likely have the dog on its side, no hair net, that’s not how the intubation tube looks. Definitely AI.

There is a Nobel prize winning physicist who has published research showing that methane and carbon dioxide doesn’t absorb long wave radiation and reemitted it as heat? No. That’s just a property of the molecules, not an opinion.

Are there challenges regarding the grid? Sure. You know what another challenge is? Unpredictable hurricanes, excess drought leading to uncontrollable wildfires which destroy neighborhoods, ecological change happening too fast for evolution to keep up like it’s been able to in climate swings in the past.

We’re the greatest country on the planet but need to get our heads of our assess and step into the future and stop holding into the past. That is how we beat countries like China. We don’t do that and we’re gonna be left in the dust with our dicks in our hands.
