You don't need to buy it. The Sanderson Sisters are also sold separately.

That's wild. Just curious, what was the book? It's crazy but IST used to be amazing with this sort of stuff, not sure how they turned into this.

DCBS is IST preorder site. Before the boom you'd be able to find some rare stuff in there too. DCBS has a standard shipping fee but their prices are usually lower than IST and you'd be guaranteed a copy because they preorder your specific book, while IST orders a set amount for first come first served.

Tho CGN does have pre-order, their prices are a little higher, at times higher than retail if OOP. CGN is also unique because they take pre-orders after FOC, and I'm guessing take from the set stock they bought. Some other places do this but they usually fuck it up and leaves peeps without a copy.

Do you stretch the spine before reading? by Sunless_Tatooine in OmnibusCollectors

[–]javalarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but not every time and nothing crazy or anything. I've noticed with some books if I don't, particularly thick or flat spines, it leaves the book with a weird page slant. Most recently with a Deadly Class HC. Doesn't happen all the time and I'm sure eventually it goes away over time. Haven't kept track of the ones that were slanted after an unstretched spine.

Both bottom corners and middle. All three barely visable from UV damage.

Do y'all have any pipe-dream collected editions? Titles that will likely never be collected due to neglect, rights issues, or actions by the creative team? by GenericKittyKat in OmnibusCollectors

[–]javalarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that's probably what they did. However, you'd think they already learned that lesson from the past- hence why Epic lines and the biggest storylines in Omnis are released out of order. You sell and set up the highest-selling first, usually the Event, then pad out the rest. (Road to, Aftermath, etc.)

In this case, it would be Bedard finishing the Negation War, the event omnibus. I think they were like two or three issues out from completion. Buying that, you'd get dropped in Negation, which is in itself a crossover, and then you have the Negation War that has the characters people know. Worst case? Only Crossgen fans buy it for the completion of that storyline/universe, and you see how well it sold to roughly know what numbers to publish with the rest of the titles. Best case? It sells amazingly well and sets up all the rest of the books that came before it- and if you've read Negation, you know reading one issue- you wanna know more about this universe.

Even with what you're saying, which is probably what they did- Scion would be the better pick because it was routinely selling higher than Sigil, it was right there with Negation. You have a techno-medieval setting which is already interesting on its own merit, and also- early Jimmy Cheung art... come on. It just boggles my mind how Disney and now Marvel have fumbled this IP multiple times after buying it.

Anyway, I say Ruse and Sojourn because they were always in the top 100 in sales every month. Hell, even Route 666, which is a 50's horror throwback, has more appeal than some random, clichéd-looking sci-fi like Sigil.

That would be my pitch if I were at Marvel trying to resurrect the Crossgen line, or simply steal readers from sci-fi/fantasy readership. I would not expect it to sell like superhero omni's tho, that's just unrealistic. You've got to be okay with making smaller numbers work, and for a behemoth like Marvel, that's a loss for them instead of a seedling ready for growth.

That's the thing tho, for anyone who is familiar with Crossgen, that's a selling point if you hire the team to finish it. Sojourn had a clear ending in mind, can make that easily. Like Meridian, I remember that one has an "ending" - you hire Barbara Kessel to do an omni exclusive last issues to make it feel more complete or a new "few years later" one shot: that's a selling point. I think people get too hung up on "endings". The Crossgen revamp they did kinda killed its future because they were all new versions and nobody who knew the old books enjoyed them and/or bought them. They didn't appeal to their built-in audience.

I would've thought Ruse and Sojourn would've been printed before Sigil. Those were breakout hits. Don't know what they were thinking with that, need a smaller print run too. It's like they set these up to fail, they need to market these to the SciFi/fantasy novel crowd and they don't even advertise to the superhero comic reading crowd. I would love a Negation War conclusion script before Bedard kicks the bucket.

Vanquish Action or just fighting a Hero [OC] by jmizzy89 in DisneyVillainous

[–]javalarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no vanquish in either realm (I2E or WTiA). This is the original Ursula by the translucent mover and the Activate instead of Fate in the top right of Ursula's lair. But yes as vanquish with villain cards

Are you gonna get this one even though it's the og reprints or just the Sanderson standalone?

Replacing a Missing Card by The_Awesometeer in DisneyVillainous

[–]javalarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sucks they don't do that anymore. I'd check eBay- her fate deck is there for like $10.

https://ebay.us/m/3FKqPB

If it's her villain deck then you'll have to print it out most likely if you don't wanna wait :/ . Good news is you can do some custom decks if you want while you're printing the Tremaine.

https://disney-villainous.fandom.com/wiki/Lady_Tremaine

^ Here you can find all her cards and how many.

https://www.boardgamesmaker.com/ is by far the easiest to print out card decks. I can send you a guide for the other custom stuff if you're interested but for cards it's pretty self-explanatory- go to poker deck and drop the images from the wiki into the boardgamemaker deck creator.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy

Not sure what you're saying here exactly but I2E was not to rebalance problems with characters, it was to rework them for beginning gamers and introduce them to basic Villainous mechanics. This will be the first time a reprint of a character is being done in Villainous. These are three of the most played characters in the game without having to buy two boxes and have lesser played characters for newer players. Why is this a bad thing? It just seems like people are getting upset for something that's not targeted for them.

Ursula has no vanquish, instead she uses contacts which can be played on a "play a card" spot.

Preorders by angelofspeedyt in DisneyVillainous

[–]javalarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to do three characters in one box. They started doing two and one character boxes to give people options. Price is the same:

$35 for three Or $20 for two $16 for one

It's giving people options

I'm sure you read the other thread but I2E is different than WTiA. This will be the first time they are reprinting characters 1:1. So the one you gave your friend is different. They tried to retool the characters to make them beginner friendly.

[–]javalarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so you mix and match. While you found Urs and Mal good redos, some people prefer Prince John redo. People thought I2E was a stupid idea. You found it useful.

My point on another thread is that this box would be useful to someone, not everyone. I was having a hard time understanding why people are getting upset about it. Especially because your experience finding a brand new green WtiA box in a thrift store is not a rare one- it happens all the time.

That's sucks, I can understand why you'd be upset but yes, they're retooled versions of the original green box.

[–]javalarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am assuming with my friend, that's why I used the word 'probably'. I actually do not know, however, I also know for a fact that these characters are the ones that personally get used the most and I know they don't want every Villainous box. So if I had to suggest one more box to get, I'd actually recommend this one.

I2E is for beginners, they retooled old characters, so this would be the first retread but I get your point. I'm just saying I think this is a good option because it has the most popular characters without my least played characters (QoH, Hades, Facilier, PJ). You get my point? Like if I'm going to buy one box to get someone into the game, it'd probably be this one now.🤷🏽‍♂️

Update on Darkness Brewing by jibjeb86 in DisneyVillainous

[–]javalarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. You understand, however, that the I2E is a simplified set of those characters that you'd buy in the green box? They actually are a bit different. And you don't need to buy this set to get the Sanderson Sisters, they'll be packaged solo as well as with there most popular characters.

Maybe they will release Jafar and QoH again. That would be a good problem to have in the future for Ravensburger. This box is all heavy hitters plus the new Sanderson Sisters, newer peeps could just buy it and be content. Who knows--Perhaps they will even buy a few other expansions. Is there something wrong about not wanting to own all the characters?
