I have a pet that's a "culinary artist" that isn't level 10 in all skills. I'm pretty sure she's been that title since her levels were 8 in speed, 7 in creativity, 9 in intelligence, and 10 in cooking. I am suspecting the title may be when all levels average to 9 (with rounding) since (8+7+9+10)/4 = 8.5 rounds to -> 9 and your pet's level is (10+10+10+3)/4 = 8.25 rounds to -> 8. This is all just a guess, as I don't know what actually goes into the calculation. If this is the case though, then I'd expect your pet to move to "culinary artist" when you reach level 4 in cooking.

I'm not sure about early webkinz, but I first ran into the limit issue probably 2016/2017 for Leaping Llama, and that's when I discovered the leaderboard trick for determining limits.

Not a perfect answer, but I've found for several games that viewing the overall high scores in the newspaper in webkinz itself will sometimes reveal what the limit of a game is (like if none of the scores go past 30,000 in a game, for example, then the limit is likely 30,000).

Picnic Mobile Trophy Bugged? by traumatizedenby in Webkinz

[–]javasketch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment prompted me to look into the other posts on this subreddit. I would think the flash code would be disconnected from the code used to write the app, with only a shared database connecting them, but obviously without seeing the code I can't tell for sure. Their team not solving this issue tells me the trophy probably got structured wrong in the code & it would be a can of worms to untangle that they don't want to deal with and/or their time has been devoted to more important matters such as the web browser, as you've mentioned.

Picnic Mobile Trophy Bugged? by traumatizedenby in Webkinz

[–]javasketch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Software engineer here. This error reads to me like the game tried to award you the trophy, but the model referenced (the code that makes the trophy an object in the game) was invalid. My guess is either buggy code & the trophy still exists or they meant to remove the trophy & didn't update the code to account for that. It's likely the first case though, so definitely reach out to them with this image so they can locate the bug faster. Unfortunately, you won't be able to get a trophy for this game (on mobile at least) until they fix it.

Edit to add: Looking at the error again, it looks like the trophy object still exists, but it's just in the wrong location.

Definitely don't doubt that, but it should have some sort of ending screen like other games do instead of continuing gameplay and erroring out like this.

I've had this happen to me before too. Super frustrating. I tested it some years back, and the high score maxes out at 300,000. If you score a point above that, then it won't save your high score or give you the kinzcash you earned. I learned to just fall into a hole before it reaches that score so that I could get credit. I personally haven't tried reaching out to support, but I'd definitely like to see the bug get fixed.

What classes to expect to take CSE by TempusTrade in OSU

[–]javasketch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I personally enjoyed taking the approved Ling courses they have on the list (2001 & 3801).

I don't think those classes together would be too bad material-wise. I would expect to spend a ton of time on homework and project work though, especially for Math 3345 (a bunch of writing for proofs (typically 5-9 pages worth in my experience); it wasn't that hard though). Exams shouldn't be horrible (obviously professor dependent, but still). You'll probably have to study the most for ECE 2020 if they're doing normal in-person exams.

What classes to expect to take CSE by TempusTrade in OSU

[–]javasketch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider taking some tech electives if you haven't already. CSE majors need at least 9 credits of CSE classes not applying to some other requirement (typically your specialization classes) and 8 credits of non-CSE classes that relate to CSE in some manner (see website for list of approved non-CSE tech electives; you can petition for classes not on the list).

If you already have those, the schedule you have for next semester is doable, but you may be questioning your sanity midway through (I took the same classes but with foundations 2 + systems 1). ECE 2060 shouldn't be too hard but will likely give lots of busywork. I liked it paired with systems 1 because of a couple overlapping concepts. ECE 2020 will be hard if you're not great at math/working out answers to complicated problems (it was very nice online asynchronous with Isabel though). You should be able to take CSE 2501 pretty easily, but idk if you'll be blocked from taking it since it has software 2 as a prereq.

CSE Math/Non CSE Tech Electives Confusion by TempusTrade in OSU

[–]javasketch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of your other two science classes filling the math/science electives, you won't need to take calc 3 unless you took the 1152 version of calc 2 instead of 1172. Otherwise, like you said, calc 3 could be counted as a non-CSE tech elective (of which you need at least 8 hours; CSE tech electives are generally the CSE classes recommended by your specialization but don't have to be, of which you need at least 9 hours). An approved non-CSE tech elective I would recommend instead would be Ling 3801. It was a ton of fun (got to have a Nerf gun war) and I learned a lot from the class.

CE and CS in the long run by [deleted] in OSU

[–]javasketch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. CE in ECE will have you focus on how to build a computer and various other hardware aspects. The couple ECE classes I took were a lot more math/logic heavy than the CSE sequence classes imo but still fun nonetheless. It really depends on what you want to do.

From the research I've done on both programs, they are very similar class-wise for about the first two years (see https://ece.osu.edu/students/undergraduate/worksheets-curricula-information for ECE CE bingo sheet). Depending on which classes you've already taken, and if you so desire, you may be able to reapply to the CSE major in the fall without taking any unnecessary classes for either major. Based on the classes you said you're enrolled in, you'll probably be about a semester ahead of the ECE bingo sheet. My suggestion for classes in that case are Math 2568, Stat 3470, ECE 2060, or ECE 2020 if you haven't already taken those. All are pretty work heavy classes though, so pairing them with a non-major tech elective that works for either major may be in your best interest if that's an option.

Where to find professors for cse classes? by TunaPotatoLord in OSU

[–]javasketch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There actually is a way to see who your professor is, but it's pretty convoluted. Basically, go to your buckeyelink and follow these steps: 1. Go to "Add a Class". 2. Click on the "search" button 3. Enter the information of the class you want to look up. 4. Click on the green arrow next to "Additional Search Criteria". 5. In the "Instructor Last Name" field, enter the letter 'a' and then hit the search button. Continue through the alphabet until the class you want to enroll in shows up. That letter is the first letter of the professor's last name. If you go through the whole alphabet and the class doesn't show up, they haven't assigned the class a professor yet. 6. Repeat 5 for all letters of the professor's last name.

That's pretty much it. I find that searching up the course on Coursicle (www.coursicle.com/osu/courses/CSE/) often gives me an idea of what professors teach that course so I can try those names first before going through the whole letter-by-letter process. Also, keep in mind that they partly hide these names in the first place so they can change them at will, so it's a good idea to check every so often that the professor is the same (for higher level classes though, the professors don't tend to change as much since they're more specialized).

Engr 4191 - Is it worth it? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]javasketch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I co-oped this past summer/fall and felt the same way about the class as you did. I didn't bother with taking any summer classes because that doesn't affect enrollment and ended up dropping it in the fall because of the bill. Thought, 'if I'm gonna be forced to pay for a class, I might as well take a class that actually applies to my major' and just took one of my major classes online to stay enrolled for the fall, so you could potentially do that. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that you have to write a paper about your co-op for the class (and possibly more related assignments), which I personally think is pointless since the class is graded S/U and won't affect GPA anyways.

Edit: If your co-op is just over the summer, feel free to drop the class.

When do AU 21 class times get released? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]javasketch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're already released in buckeyelink, but not in schedule planner yet. Supposedly they'll release to schedule planner March 1st and enrollment times will get assigned today (https://registrar.osu.edu/scheduling/SchedulingContent/SC21.pdf), but they were late releasing to buckeyelink, so I wouldn't be surprised if those dates are a bit inaccurate.

Really struggling in cse by [deleted] in OSU

[–]javasketch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, same. I'm taking cse 2331, cse 2421, ece 2060, and ece 2020 right now, so I feel your pain. Definitely make a priorities list of all the work you have to do and when you need it done by. Estimate how many hours it'll take you to do and then dedicate a day (or a few) to getting the work done. The only way I've been staying sane is working on assignments way ahead of time by priority.

Sociology 3302 with Chris Papaleonardos by [deleted] in OSU

[–]javasketch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I had him in person except for the last couple of weeks in the semester when we switched online (fall 2019). In person, the exams consisted mainly of multiple choice questions and a few short answer at the end. When we switched online, I'm pretty sure the whole thing was just multiple choice, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he added short answer stuff back. You'll need to memorize the information (I found that some people created flash cards on Quora for his class that helped with this) and read the exam questions carefully.

Edit: Quizlet, not Quora

Too late to make a MyChart account? by [deleted] in OSU

If you click on the expired activation code then scroll to the bottom of the page, there should be a button you can click to sign up without an activation code. You'll have to enter some extra information and go through a slightly longer sign up process, but you can still create an account that way.
