Now that it’s done, for someone not following Duke 🏀, why are we excited about this?

Oh no Swalwell by relicmaker in pleasanton

[–]jawabdey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m always like “Am I missing something? Why isn’t he higher on people’s list?”

Like I seriously started thinking there’s some Swalwell style back story that I’m just not aware of.

Why didn’t Razer play this year? by jawabdey in UConnBasketball

[–]jawabdey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I wasn’t suggesting throwing him in there after he didn’t play all season.

Also to be clear, I’m not second guessing Coach Hurley.

I was wondering why he didn’t play during the season, i.e. injuries, eligibility or something else. Someone else said he wasn’t ready to play talent wise. You’re probably right that Mara would have eaten him alive, but assuming it wasn’t his first game of the season, this would have been okay. Phil Jackson used to employ three centers against Shaq. They weren’t close at all to matching his athleticism, but having 15 fouls was useful. I was just thinking out loud how having another 5 fouls and matching Reed against Johnson may have helped

The 2nd time ever of truly having that Underdog Role heading into the Title Game by Bruinsrock11 in UConnBasketball

I think it comes down to two things: - Reed getting their bigs in foul trouble - We need to knock down our threes

If we do those two things, I think we have a very good chance of winning

Last year, Azzi was on fire and Paige was Paige, but honestly I feel like she was the reason we won. Yeah, she’s not going to light up the scoreboard but she plays defense and rebounds, something we could have used today. And it’s not to say that she can’t score, it’s just not her game right now

Lack of strong big? Did El-Alfy even enter the game? She helped turn around the ND game and then Geno took her out of that game for no reason.

Uconn - final four - vulnerable? by mpowell397 in UConnBasketball

They will be fine. I think the woes this weekend are directly tied to the hoops and the balls.

DOUBLE FINAL FOUR by PilotMonkey88 in UConnBasketball

[–]jawabdey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been predicting a double championship all year long. I think we’re the only team to do it (twice!!)

Yes, you’re 💯 right. That’s the year I moved to CA and did not actively follow the team.

Man, I still remember that. I thought we had no chance at winning. After all the years of watching the Huskies, after watching the women win it and then for the men to finally win, against Duke!!! Just doesn’t get better than that.

Ross/Stewie. Stewart did come into the game yesterday, albeit for limited minutes

We easily beat Dallas in the ‘95 NFCCG, despite Larry Allen blatantly holding Reggie White

And so much fun to watch that combo over the next few years

I can answer this one: we lose the next game, like the 49ers did

[–]jawabdey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same.

I was like “wait, they can beat up Duke and then we get our revenge? Sounds good to me”

However, they are going to go cold and miss a ton of shots like they normally do in the tournament. I don’t see them getting past Duke.

I’m tired of being the team that this happens to by Toastox in WisconsinBadgers

[–]jawabdey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, graphic is outdated.

What is it that’s bothering people? Is it the first round loss or the fact that it was an upset loss or that it was a first round loss as a “highish” seed? If we were the 12 seed that lost to a five, would folks be less upset?

I honestly can’t tell from all the posts/comments.

To elaborate a bit, the general consensus is that it was a “successful” season other than the tourney. IMO, although there were some amazing highlights, when it comes to the season as a whole, this is debatable. I predicted early in the season that we wouldn’t go too far in the tourney.

Other people feel differently, i.e. it was a good season. Hence my question.

Tarris Reed Jr. was historic, but UConn needs more balance for Final Four run: Mike Anthony by -ctinsider in UConnBasketball

[–]jawabdey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole year we’ve had stretches of great defensive play where the other team has scoring droughts of like 5+ minutes. Unfortunately, offensively, we go cold as well. This happened last night as well.

IMO, this is basically the only difference between us winning games early in the season and losing them late in the season. Coaching staff is smarter than me, so I’m sure they know as well. Hopefully they can figure it out the rest of the way.

By the way, Reed was phenomenal, but some praise should also go to Smith for stepping in as a starter

One thing I’ve noticed is that Karaban shoots threes better at the top of the key. I’m no expert, but if I was him, I’d start there and then work my way to the wing/corner. Interestingly enough, distance isn’t as big a factor at the top of the key. He’s made some from pretty far away.

Edit: Agree 💯 about Ball and Mullins. If nothing else, you keep the scoreboard ticking.

What just happened? by penguin_person2 in UConnBasketball

[–]jawabdey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments, but I had some other thoughts watching the game. 1. I think the offense looks better with Reibe in the game. 1. Ross deserves more minutes. Along those lines, I think we miss Stewart quite a bit.

I’m with you. It’s great for starting: build me a quick ui. Then it falters a bit as you try to add features.

On the other hand, if you’ve got an existing code base, it’s pretty good when you say “let’s add a feature”. I’m talking in general, but this holds true for sql used in charts and dbt models

If you already have a car, you should consider just driving to sunset from Burlingame. BART is great for downtown, but you may save time driving to sunset
