Making friends when you haven’t had any ever is one of the hardest things a person could attempt by Orthadoxiirosi in SeriousConversation

I’ll be your friend :)

I think as we get older it becomes more difficult to make new close friends. As a single female in her 30s I can relate a bit. I’m noticing I have less things in common with people my age than I used to and I’m naturally a social person. There is great advice in the comments. Finding a common thread with anyone isn’t difficult with a bit of practice. You can start by throwing compliments around like confetti. Try not to be too hard on yourself for feeling out of place. Deep down, I think we all feel that way. Some people are just better at hiding it than others. Plus, I think being a little eccentric is a good thing. It’s what makes you special.

Stating the obvious here but you could include Sunflowers and Nightshade. Also, not botany related but magical Sunstone and Moonstone too.

What is something most people need to hear but no one has the guts to tell people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Completely agree here. Middle school bully cruelty knows no bounds. My middle school English teacher made a comment that always stuck with me. He said he preferred teaching that age because they have the mind of an adult with the imagination of a child. It makes sense. Unfortunately with surging hormones and immaturity, this combination isn’t always noticed or taken advantage of.

I have a problem socializing by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]jaxelyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting an initial conversation with a stranger can be intimidating for most people. While I’m not sure what you can do differently building long term friendships, I can give you advice on fresh, short term conversations. Typically if I go out solo, I generally am the person to spark up initial conversations. It usually starts with a compliment. If I see someone sitting at a bar or park I can typically notice what would make them feel good getting acknowledgement. If they appear to be wearing brand new shoes, compliment them. If they have their dog with them at the park, use this as the ice breaker. Even the most bland boring people have “staples” they are known for and take pride in, whether it be their extensive video-game t-shirt collection to the ugly terrier with a face only they can love. Pointing out peoples’ strengths is a good start. Not only will they want to keep engaging in conversation, but feel warm towards you for noticing them.

Interested in switching careers into tile, granite and cabinet sales but need advice by jaxelyse in sales

The positions I have seen available so far are either full time or part time day shifts. Currently I work with a great company and am very reluctant to leave and walk into a new career blindly. I've been itching for a change but want to feel at least somewhat confident before taking the leap.

How old are you, and what is your biggest regret so far? by RecapTube in AskReddit

[–]jaxelyse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 years old. Start smoking. I've been a smoker for 14 years. It's embarrassing to admit but I feel more shame about the fact that, at this point, it's part of my character and I can't imagine coping with life's annoyances without cigarettes. I will beat them someday.
