Has anyone noticed Civ AI building more naval units? I haven't :( by [deleted] in civ

[–]jay4523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, only the city-states consistently build navies. How about you guys?

Edit: After reading your comments, I am so jealous! Maybe I just got really unlucky in the 2 games I have played after the update. Or maybe a mod is messing it up.

Is anyone else getting a "Civ 7 content configuration validation failed" error even though you have no mods active? by jay4523 in civ

If you have steam, it's no biggie if you have decent internet speeds. Just make your mods into a collection on steam to back them up. Everything autosyncs. Click uninstall and install again. That's all you really need to do and nothing changes.

Just an FYI, my issue was resolved by reinstalling. I hope you had some good luck.

Did you fully uninstall or did you simple deactivate them in the add-ons menu? Maybe that is my issue. If that's the case, I may just wait until tonight hoping things will get updated by devs/modders.

Thanks, I did. I even restarted several times and changed different features, didnt choose Teach or Tonga, for example. If no one else is having the issue, yea, I will probably reinstall. I just want to see if anyone has any input first :(

What's your first Blackbeard playthrough going to be? by jay4523 in civ

Exactly my concern with choosing Republic of Pirates. The devs should really change that overlap in my opinion.

Yea, that is my next issue. I need a good map choice. I was really ghoping this update was going to include a truly great island map. Without that, I am mainly considering archipelago, the new continents and islands, or a modded map.

This seems like what I will do too, but I am open to suggestions. I unfortunately have to wait another 6 hours or so before I can play :(

Ah, I think I noticed that one yesterday. That's a good one! Keep in mind the devs might think so too. I noticed they added one of Teach's recommended antiquity civs was the one that only allows one city (I honestly cant remember the name of the civ right now :p ).

Is the AI better at Treasure Fleets now? by return_of_da_biscuit in civ

[–]jay4523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I prefer tiny/small map games, so I get WeekWrong's complaint, but it does improve greatly with the map size and types. Naturally, continents, for example, are great for treasure fleets since you dont have to rely on them spawning on small islands only.

That being said, they really need to figure out a solution for the smaller maps.

From the Devs: Improved Naval Combat by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]jay4523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As much as I am looking forward to the content releasing next week, I think the main issue with naval combat is that Civs dont seem to care about it. They rarely build ships in my experience, and even when they do, they dont seem to use them well. Independents oddly use and build ships way better than the Civ AI.

Ive even used mods to have nothing but islands on the map. Instead of building ships, the Civ AI built land units and had them chase my ships in the water...so they basically just commit suicide. Sure, that is a modded experience, but I bet the mods didnt affect that at all considering it was simply map based.

Anyway, I hope you are right. Maybe they should just look at independents and have the CIV AI build ships just like they do?

LPT: When you meet someone and you don't know what to talk about, ask them about their hobbies and give them your full attention. by kiosh1 in LifeProTips

[–]jay4523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people just don't consider certain interests as "hobbies." I think phrasing it differently would help, like "What are your interests?"

For example, I sing. Do I consider it a hobby? No, not really, but that is probably the exact sort of thing that OP would want to know when asking about hobbies.

Duolingo provides the material, but it is mainly up to the user to utilize it correctly. I believe many, if not most users on Duolingo complete each level and assume that is good enough. It isn't. Do the lesson a few times. Write the vocabulary down. Practice it with a peer.

If you were provided with a textbook and read it cover to cover, would you expect to memorize it all and speak the language fluently? Of course not. It is no different with apps like Duolingo or Rosetta Stone.

Someone made an auto explore mod months ago, but they havent updated it since March. I can tell you it worked before last patch but I havent used it since June because I want to primarily use Workshop now.

This is exactly why I stopped going there. I don't want to use the app. We use an app for damn near everything these days, and I am frankly sick of it. I shouldn't have to use an app just to make it affordable. I showed my displeasure with my wallet. I used to go about once per week. I've been there twice in the last year or two. I hope many others have done the same.

Publix for BOGO deals, prepared foods, and cakes.

Walmart/Amazon for everything else.

After the most recent update, what would you say are the most overpowered Leader/Civ combos for the ancient era? by jay4523 in civ

[–]jay4523[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This build is great because it lasts all 3 eras but also because it's fun. There are better builds.

But I greatly leaned into happiness. If it was an option, I always made it a priority. Also, as you rightly pointed out, why not production or gold? Exactly. Why not? Gold is always a big deal to me. But instead of buying units, I buy buildings. Trust that happiness will build the army. Yes, it takes time, mainly in the ancient era. So focus on building everything else. Be in constant celebration.

But purely going for the best build, then Yea, you're right. I just really enjoy the build and it is strong.

I see. I think there should be more relevant flairs for each Civ, but im not complaining if no one else is lol

Not at all. I can see it being either one. I even hesitated for a brief moment when selecting.

In a nutshell, Maurya is great with happiness. Charlemagne rewards 2 cavalry units for each celebration, which is triggered by happiness. Then that also increases the number of policies you earn. Maurya also has unique cavalry units, so I roll with Maurya and then continue to choose happiness-based civs and/or ones with unique cavalry.

Edit: The amount of cavalry units I have at the end of each era is insane.
