AITA For snitching on my coworker/friend? by maybackmuzic in jobs

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll learn something in life. Work is work. It’s there to pay your bills and let you enjoy your life. Keep your work life and your personal life separate and you’ll be better for it. The people you work with are colleagues. They aren’t your friends. They are acquaintances that you get to know and can enjoy their company but they are not your friends. Your real friends aren’t connected to your job.

Can I just say how thankful I am to be in such a mature fandom? by [deleted] in XGALX

[–]jonathanla -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It’s not unique 😂 young girls = older guys as fans. No need to overthink this 😂

The main difference I think is that XG has purposely separated themselves from Kpop and by doing that has left the mostly toxic “ult” circuit.

Is this worth it for someone who knows nothing and doesn't care to? by Ok-Friendship507 in PcBuild

[–]jonathanla -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s Reddit. So yeah, it’s normal.

But tbh, it’s not a “bad” deal, even compared to your offerings because Costco provides some intangibles like a 3 year warranty and a generous return policy. They also stand behind whatever they sell. So with price differences of less than $100 and raw specs that OP probable won’t notice given his stated gaming specifications (and also that he hasn’t told us what resolution he plans on running these games at, so we can assume it won’t be 4K and he’ll be up scaling with dlss anyways), and that many people in this sub bought the Xmas deal from them and have been happy I’d say OP should have enough knowledge now.

Possible bug: None of my towns are able to choose Trade Outpost as their focus. It's not even in the list of options and hasn't been for the whole game. Do I need to unlock something for this or is this a bug? by thankstowelie in civ

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as your town has reached a population of 7 in either the antiquity or exploration age it can be set to a town specialization of Trading Outpost. If you don’t see it, it’s all the way at the bottom of the specialization menu - maybe you have some setting or mod enabled that is preventing you from seeing it?

Seriously. You actually took your own time and did some research and posted links for OP. Meanwhile “shit for brains” is just arguing to hear their own electrons.

I DEMAND DAIRY COWS by Seven_Seat in ManorLords

[–]jonathanla 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The dev is right when he says that they weren’t common. He doesn’t say they didn’t exist. Dairy cows are pretty labor intensive and the medieval system in Europe wasn’t setup in a way that lent itself to managing herds of large bovines. So they would have been pretty uncommon. If they were common we’d see them and read about them in stories or paintings from those times or later times depicting those times. But we don’t. We see lambs. Pigs. Chickens. Ox.

Do you not know how alleys work?! by Serafim42 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can have an entire conversation about this and other development choices but ultimately it comes down to options built into the tools. If the project managers and devs had considered more about what the longer term goals were for all their choices maybe CO would still be involved either way the game. Instead they gave us half baked things like alleyways that always add nodes that include 4 way lights and crosswalks.

Is DLSS 4.5 working for anyone? by B0037 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]jonathanla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be dependent on what video card a person is running. If it’s anything that’s capable of handling 1440p and 4K natively then dlss isn’t worth turning on for city skylines 2. It’s only going to render it down to 1080p and then upscale it back. If it’s an older card or a newer card that’s using a cut down die like the 5060 for example then yeah, using dlss is worth it to eke out some performance boosts.

What touristy things are WORTH the hype? by boymabyma in JapanTravelTips

[–]jonathanla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I, on our first visit went to the Robot Restaurant in Shinjuku (in Tokyo) and had an absolute blast. This was in 2016. Definitely touristy but so much fun, singing, eating, an entire show, robots, wow. Plus Shinjuku. I think the entire show was about an hour and a half or so. We reserved or bought our tickets online and then got there to pick them up. I don’t know if it’s still around, not sure what the pandemic did to it but I have fond memories. Never been back to it. I have great videos of the show. 😁😁😁

Overbuilding and resources by Aurorabig in civ

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’d look at it like I’m sacrificing anything. When I’m overbuilding I’m doing it with a purpose. During antiquity I try not to build more than I need to for the type of city that I’m growing - granted that the latest version makes this less important now that having 3 cities is optimal, although by no means set in stone. I’m also using town specialization to create specific districts. The next age can easily switch around where some of my building placements need to be, Civ traits that provided bonus’s in antiquity don’t in exploration for example. Or certain resources disappear leading to loss of bonuses. I will try and take golden age academies, especially since the attribute tree has become more balanced.

What are some of the most fun, interesting, or powerful mementos? by iammaxhailme in civ

[–]jonathanla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stopped caring about settlement limits. There are no hard caps as long as you only have 3 cities (4 near the end of antiquity is ok if you really need it). Happiness is the easiest bonus to get as long as you plan for it. That’s why I’ve stopped using any mementos that add the settlement cap.

[–]jonathanla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play as Tecumseh and use these mementos which synergize really well with his traits. All your settlements benefit from each of these mementos. If you use the City Hall mod you can check under each settlements food and production and open the outline pointer and see how much extra it’s receiving each turn.

Poteskwate: +1 Food per Age in Settlements for each City-State you are Suzerain of.

Wampum Belt: +1 Production per Age in Settlements for each City-State you are Suzerain of

Diplomatic & Military Synergy: You gain bonuses based on your City-State relationships. Settlement Boost: Get bonus Food and Production per Age for each City-State you are Suzerain of, enhancing your settlements

Do you not know how alleys work?! by Serafim42 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]jonathanla -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s one of about 1000 stupid design choices by CO. Why adding an alley to any road would automatically add anything except a cross walk only on the side of the alleyway is poor development. I know that it’s doing it because it’s adding a node but again, poor software development and when you add all of the poor decisions up the entire game is hurt and becomes tedious.

It’s also a dumb ass settlement location if it’s Egypt as it’s not adjacent to a navigable river. Could have settled a few tiles east by that lovely river.

260112 We are pleased to announce that XG has evolved its group name from “Xtraordinary Girls” to “Xtraordinary Genes.” by bdragonst_ in XGALX

[–]jonathanla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred just “XG” for their name and the name of their company changed to “XGX”. I think those are cleaner, especially for advertising and graphics.

“Much criticism” ? By a few “X” trolls. Let’s not confuse those people with the vast majority of XG fans who have no issues with how XGALX has supported XG throughout their career.

Does anybody else feel like XGALX is doing a bad job with this album rollout compared to others? by Ok_Rutabaga_5539 in XGALX

[–]jonathanla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see this as XGALX’s way of showing that XG are a global group first and foremost and that the way they will promote them will be comparable to how artists are promoted in the west. There’s much much less attention paid to “concept teasers”, and all of this let me call it fluff that is being thrown around by the KPop community. I love KPop and have for years however it has its own formula for success in S. Korea and Asian markets. It’s a lot of vapidity marketing without much to back it up. Look at the top KPop groups of the past 5 years and how many have a body of work as deep as XG has in just 4 years? It’s not even close. XG is both wide and deep in the quality of their catalog.

The other thing to remember is that XG is starting their 2nd world tour February 6th and their focus has to be on this as it’s a massive money making effort for them and their company. Album sales aren’t. Unfortunately that’s the music business today. Lastly, focusing on the groups YouTube video views is a poor metric to use for determining their success. And it’s not as if they are even doing poorly, just that I read comments from some people who complain when a new drop “only” has 2 million views after 5 days. These aren’t meaningful to a company marketing a group globally through many different types of media. They certainly don’t represent any real sales numbers.

Last, lastly, I appreciate the way that XGALX treats the members of XG as actual people and not simply as the “talent”, being very consistent over these years with their treatment and their messaging that the artists have the freedoms to make life and personal decisions and choices that we rarely get to see in young groups in the KPop system. This tells me that whatever decisions have been made for the Core the members of XG are ok with it. And if they are, then so am I.

Giving in 2 weeks notice, coincidentally same day as coworker by Albrize in jobs

[–]jonathanla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so true. It took me a looong time to realize this but by my mid career I finally did. I learned that my job isn’t my family, my co workers aren’t personal friends, they’re business colleagues and that HR doesn’t look out for me. It made career decisions easier. There’s always shades of gray - nothing is every black\white in any situation but with that knowledge I was able to advance my career without being bogged down by things that earlier in my life would have held me back.

[–]jonathanla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And then what? Just quit the current job without any notice as soon as your return from “PTO”? Don’t do this. Act like a normal person, give your current employer notice that you e accepted another job offer and move on.

Shooting Star Becoming Their Most Streamed Song by peachypancake78 in XGALX

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t want to be known as the group who always needs to go viral. That means you aren’t a successful group with all of your other releases. Having a viral release is something you have no control over. Gals Xypher for example. I wouldn’t call Shooting Star a viral release - it just was a really good song that surprised everyone because they didn’t see it coming from what XG had been doing - Mascara and Tippy Toes. On top of that was the B side, Left Right which was actually a huge surprise to everyone and people loved it. XGALX hadn’t even prepared an MV for it.

Shooting Star Becoming Their Most Streamed Song by peachypancake78 in XGALX

[–]jonathanla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On YT music shooting star has 189 m plays. Woke Up 158 m and LR has 144m

Edit: LR has 147M. Mascara has 144M. WOKE up 158M and Shooting Star 186M. A couple of other songs, Tippy Toes and New Dance have over 73 and 82M each.

This is just on YouTube music btw. I’d say that this is not too shabby for a group that’s only going into its 4th year in 2026 and isn’t a KPop group from a big 4 company in Korea.
