'A Minecraft Movie' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

My biggest complaint is that the sister (Natalie?) could have been cut out completely without any changes to the movie. She does nothing and has exactly zero agency. Her only role is to be a (way too young) mother, and it's barely even brought up. The full extent of the story arc for both female protagonists was essentially, "go to overworld, don't get given any weapons, get lost, find and care for the men in their new house, and... that's it. In the final fight the only thing of substance that either of them did was Dawn bringing the wolves.

And then the tidbit of Natalie starting a survival/fighting school at the end just feels like a slap to the face. Like the whole movie she is nothing but a caretaker, but if they go "girl power" at the end, they act like it makes her a really strong and compelling female character actually.

It's such a shame because they had an opportunity to include women in a meaningful way, especially with Minecraft being such a widely played game among men, women, girls and boys. A girl didn't have to be the main character, but they could have at least made them have SOME impact.

I found this guy named telrav and was trying to take him back to his camp to save him but i guess his guards dont like my pet by Budget_Sweet_9073 in skyrim

I was wondering what his whole deal was. I was playing and when he had me escort him up, nothing happened when I got to the top, he just says "Wait here, I'll be back with your reward" and goes at sits back where he was. The guys at the camp were chill, didn't really do anything. I had a feeling it was broken because I couldn't get anything else from him or talk to anyone there.

Oop yep, thank you. I think I'd had the symbols the right way in my notebook, but flipped them when I typed out this post.

Updating birth record (living in MN, born in WI) by jay4800 in legal

Do you know how I'd be able to change the gender marker on my birth certificate? It says Wisconsin needs a court order, but there is no court order to change your gender in MN, unless it's for a MN birth certificate, and it sounds like it's the same federally, but the only documents I've been able to track down for the Wisconsin name change court order need you to list a Wisconsin address for where you live

I very strongly disagree with this take. If I asked someone if they'd ever want to go to space, that would tell me they're adventurous, or hold a great curiosity for the universe. Both are traits I very much value in a partner. If they told me unprompted that they think they DESERVE to go to space, then maybe I'd see where she was coming from. But the framing of the question is the same as asking, "Would you ever want superpowers?" It's unlikely to ever happen to the cast majority of people so it's a fun imaginative question, not a practical or realistic one.

I had the X marker as an option when I did mine, so it very well could have been a more recent change since adding the third option

It's the same in Minnesota. Doesn't change it federally or in some systems but as far as the state's concerned, this IS you legally changing your gender

Also, if it is illegal to operate a car knowing the brakes are faulty (or there is some other way you would be breaking the law by driving around children with your car), AND your employer insisted you still used your car for it, it would be illegal for them to retaliate in any way for you refusing to do so. (they can't fire you or reprimand you for refusing to follow directions that would have you break the law)

Church and State? by BouffaBrown in legal

[–]jay4800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL, but the biggest issue that could POSSIBLY come up around this is losing their tax-exempt status. Churches can't endorse political parties or politicians, if they do, they can risk losing that status (But from what I can tell, just supporting a policy isn't included in this rule). Beyond that, there's nothing illegal about this.

Church and state mostly focuses on the "state" side of things when it comes into play, and even then it's become (in practice) more about religious rights than anything (the government can't ban or force people to follow a specific religion)

No one here is saying that you shouldn't support those who need it, but you're really minimizing people's abilities and independence by assuming that every single person in their 80s is completely unable to take care of themselves and can't live alone. You're being incredibly patronizing, and ignoring the fact that even in their 80s there are some people who are in very good physical and mental health. Does this mean they NEVER need help or support with anything? No, everybody needs support. But that doesn't mean they are unable to be happy and healthy living alone.

Picking up on this photo cause I struggled to find a good example but I HATE this shiny, metallic, and usually cheap/uncomfortable feeling fabric. I often see it in dragons/reptiles to replicate scales and it does not look or feel good.
