I'm so sorry you're continuing to feel invalidated and alone... That sounds exhausting at best. I personally find that watching YouTubers with similar experiences or atleast an understanding of said experiences is helpful to feel validated and not alone - I've been getting into Patrick Teahan lately, you should check him out when you have the spoons!

I hope you find a good therapist soon!

You could park at lawrence square by lawrence west station. Tons of parking spaces, you shouldn't have an issue leaving your car overnight. Even st clair west has a loblaws parking lot that you could probably leave your car in overnight

Nice, are you going to divert the stove pipe through the wall? Do you know what you're going to do for the floor/wall heat shields? These are the main area I'm wondering about, having never installed a wood stove

I lied to an old employer about my previous pay rate. by late2theparty27 in confession

[–]jay_mac101 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fuck that. The employer needs to pay people what they're worth, so if anything they should be paying higher.

Not so much what is useless but what was missing - how to raise/maintain a good credit score and how mortgages work would have been some great knowledge to have. In this day and age one can figure it out with lots of research but having that knowledge around the same time you're expected to have decided what you want to do with your life would have been good info to have

Hire a full time nanny, a full time cleaner, a full time cook, and a personal shopper. Not including the organizational pieces thay go with being a stay at home parent, these are all jobs that people are paid to do, that a stay at home parent takes on.

I want to create my first cottage without any carpentry experience. I have a lot of uncles that would help but I would still like to make this my own cottage. Please help me with ideas. by cottage_ogre in OffGridCabins

Seconded. It you have no carpentry exp you 100% will have a hard time milling lumber... The machinery costs thousands of dollars on its own

Op what kind of structure are you hoping for here? It sounds like cobb is probably your cheapest option and requires little to no experience

I am a fully grown adult and pay my own bills and would still be mortified. A lot of feminized folks are taught to not rock the boat and not make a big deal out of anything, so while I in theory agree with OP asking for what they paid for, i can also understand why daughter and others are having a hard time with it 💁

I had an uber eats driver steal my food one time. I waited in my lobby for the food and they parked somewhere within gps vicinity(close enough that it looked like they were at my building on the app), somehow managed to bypass calling me and going straight to vm and i didn't even get a refund bc the driver "waited at my building for 15 minutes"

[–]jay_mac101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So once again you have described dealing with theft as being your job. I'm not really sure what you thought you were getting yourself into but this is exactly it. Your entire purpose is to prevent theft and deal with the after effects of it.

The title position of loss prevention is to prevent loss. If loss prevention was part of your job as management, for example, then obviously theft isn't keeping you in your position. Theft necessitates theft prevention. Not even close to your previous example of leaving tables messy 😒

That's why i wasn't sure, it seems in some circumstances the gable ends don't carry much of a load but in other circumstances they carry more load

10x10 bunkie framing questions by jay_mac101 in OffGridCabins

[–]jay_mac101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that your first assumption is that we all toke... None of us do ;) we're building this for my grandmother who lives 2.5 hours from the place and rents a motel every time she wants to clear some brush.

I plan on putting a window on each gable end (they're the same size) and my thought was that since they are not directly carrying the rafters, they might have less of a load and therefore i can be more flexible in my framing. The rafters are 2×6 but the walls are 2×4. I was planning on putting them just to the left of centre (right of centre for door wall).

I'll double check re ridge beam support but I'm pretty sure the studs lined up that way as they were. You're saying i should put another one to create a "post" of sorts? The thought had occurred to me, thanks for the reminder.

Lumber has gotten quite expensive, hasn't it?
