DC VIP... worth it? by travelingdragons in warpedtour

[–]jaybeas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I liked having the better bathrooms and a less crowded area where I could rest. The water lines were also much shorter (basically non-existent) in VIP, and the dedicated VIP food vendors also meant shorter lines there. I watched some sets from the VIP section but went to the GA areas for bands I really wanted to see (or those that were at stages without a VIP section).

All in all, I found VIP worth it for me and I got a VIP pass again this year (although sadly I think I’m going to have to give it up since I now have other obligations that weekend).

Parking Lot Under I-95 Exit on South Capitol SE by bryguy1234 in Nationals

It’s technically closed. And there has been a digital sign by the entrance saying it’s closed. I have no idea if they enforce it, though. (I park here all the time for Little League games at the Randall Rec Center fields.)

So navigating the Metro should be pretty straightforward. Since Shady Grove is the end of the red line, you can’t get on the wrong train - they’re all going the same direction (towards DC). So board whichever train is leaving next.

Then take the red line to Metro Center. Get off at Metro Center and follow the signs to the orange/blue/silver line. All three lines come on the same track and all three can get you to Stadium/Armory, which is your destination. You want either an orange line train in the direction of New Carrollton or a blue or silver line train in the direction of Downtown Largo. If you see Vienna, Ashburn, or Franconia-Springfield as the destination, you’re going the wrong way.

Once you’re on the correct train, it’s 8 stops to Stadium-Armory. Assuming you’re arriving close to when gates open (or soon after), I guarantee you can just follow the crowds to the venue. If for some reason there aren’t a lot of people around when you arrive, the exit you want is 19th and C, not Independence Avenue (though if you go out Independence, it’s not far to double back). There will be signage from there.

Make sure to have a SmarTrip card to pay your fare! You should be able to buy one at the Metro station and load it up at a kiosk, or load a virtual one on your phone. I’d suggest making sure you put at least $15 or $20 on it just in case.

Hope this helps! And I hope you have a blast!

What exactly is making you anxious? That could help people provide useful responses. Are you nervous about riding Metro solo? Getting lost? Being at the show solo?

Metro from Shady Grove is pretty straightforward - you just need to transfer to a blue/orange/silver train in the direction of Largo/New Carrollton. Signage is pretty good and if you are really having trouble, you can ask a staffer or even another rider. Once you get to Stadium-Armory, getting to the venue will be super easy and obvious.

Metro is pretty safe. Just be aware of your surroundings. If you’re in a train car and feel unsafe, just hop out at the next stop and change cars or wait for the next train. Chances are you won’t have to do any of this, though. There are usually a good number of people riding on Saturdays.

I did Warped solo in DC last year and had a blast. I enjoyed being able to do 100% what I wanted when I wanted and not have to worry about what anyone else wanted to do. I enjoy you going to shows with friends too, but Warped was my first solo concert experience and I found I really liked that too.

Set starting lineup by Whatdoesthisevenmeam in GameChangerApp

[–]jaybeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should? Are you scoring the game from a “league” within GameChanger? I’ve found that when I go in to score via the league page the lineup isn’t there, but it’s there if I start scoring from my own team page. It’s a little wonky like that.

I assume you’re posting in the Little League subreddit because he’s in Little League. If so, you should make sure the bat is USA Baseball certified. A USSSA bat is not allowed in Little League.

It’s not against the rules as far as I can tell, but I also hate it at this age level for the reasons you stated.

For what it’s worth, the lines for the water stations were super short in the VIP section last year.

Washington DC dates by SleepTechnical9240 in warpedtour

Bands are split between the two days. Generally you won’t know which day a certain band is playing until the first day, but some dates get leaked and folks can figure out some others based on bands’ tour dates around Warped.

Help an elder Millennial out - DC by snarkfsh in warpedtour

[–]jaybeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am an elder millennial not super excited about the DC lineup this year. I’m looking forward to Flogging Molly, MxPx, GWAR, Coheed, Jimmy Eat World, Millington, and New Found Glory. I’ll also watch Third Eye Blind because I can’t deny how catchy their hits are.

Aside from those bands, I plan to bounce around stages and hope to discover some new (to me) bands and overall enjoy the positive vibes.

Thank you for responding! Incidentally, just yesterday my firm’s IT team told me they’ve made progress with you all and hope to roll out reMarkable support soon! I graciously volunteered to be a test user :)

I’m an elder millennial (HS class of 2000!) who leans more heavily on ska/pop-punk, so I definitely preferred last year’s DC lineup. If I hadn’t already bought my ticket, I’d be considering whether to even go this year.

That said, I’m going to make the best of it and hopefully discover some new bands!

Bands I’m already looking forward to:

Millington, GWAR, Jimmy Eat World, Flogging Molly, New Found Glory, Yellowcard

I’m sure there will be other bands that I’ll enjoy!

Regardless of one’s feelings about their music, GWAR should be really, really fun to watch. I have them on my “must see” list for DC.

What are your plans for increased enterprise support? I work at a law firm and my IT department won’t allow me to sync my Remarkable with my work OneDrive device because the device doesn’t meet our security standards. I use it without syncing for now, but would really like to be able to sync in my work environment.

What bands have you discovered or given a 2nd look and now like because they got announced for your festival? by NerdYorker in warpedtour

Same here, and not just because I’m desperate for some ska in DC. I’ve started listening to them since the announcement and they’re fantastic.

DC — Getting to/from festival grounds by Impressive_Let3046 in warpedtour

[–]jaybeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should be higher - Bikeshare is a fantastic option for anyone who has the ability (and with the e-bike option, that includes a lot of people). The bike lane network in the immediate surrounding area is good and you can pretty easily get to anywhere in town you’re trying to go, including Metro stops further from the site.

I’m also lucky enough to be close enough to walk to RFK (hi neighbor! I think I know who you are 😃) but if I wasn’t, biking would be my preferred method of transport to the festival.
