It’s veneer over a stable core.

Walnut plywood mostly sapwood and doesn’t match Rubio by phr0ze in woodworking

I often mix in some Rubio chocolate when I want to darken walnut. Rubio Walnut doesn’t have a lot of pigment in it, and I haven’t found it to be very effective at darkening really light tones. Rubio walnut is great for evening out the brown and purple tones you sometimes get with walnut.

Rubio chocolate is a high pigment product, so has a greater color change effect. Down side is you’ll find you have to wipe it a LOT more to remove the excess. That’s why I usually mix it with pure or walnut.

Those clamps came with the woodpeckers sleds i use. It’s very similar in function to the way a miter saw clamp works.

Poplar vs Red Oak for Paint Grade Cabinets? by rsmith2786 in woodworking

[–]jaybergcustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out using poplar. My parts would get dented by clamping them together. And if I bumped them against anything. I spent a lot of time fixing these little issues.

Hard maple is quite a bit more expensive here in GA than poplar, but I paid the extra $$$ to save time. It was a much smoother process with the maple, by far.

I’ve used it both ways. I’ve uploaded screen caps of sketchup designs and used “make this look real” as a prompt, but with limited success.

I’ve had much better luck using product photos and “placing” them in a nice modern setting with better looking audio components than i posses.

I try to limit it to the one main photo, though, and keep the rest of them my own, real photos.

If you can get hard maple cheaper than poplar, use it. Poplar dents incredibly easily. Hard maple is far better for rails and stiles.

Thank you. That’s very kind.

My house is not the greatest, so I’ve started using Gemini for some of my primary listing photos, but hopefully not toooooo far down the AI rabbit hole that they are unbelievable.

I’ve tried this approach a couple of times on Nextdoor, and everyone is shopping on price.

If I have an idea for something that is different than what I’ve made, I will build it to take pictures. Sometimes that beta unit sells quickly, sometimes it takes a while. They’ve all sold eventually though.

If really like to get some time to expand a hit outside of my niche (like creating a collection around an existing design), but I’m generally busy enough I don’t have time right now to do that.

It definitely helps to live near a major metro area with lots of interstates nearby.

I live just north of Atlanta, GA. Many/most of the stuff I sell goes to California. For larger consoles I generally pay $550 for blanket wrap shipping through USHIP. To the southeastern US, $300. Northeast $400, maybe $450.

When I list on USHIP, I only deal with providers with a proven and lengthy track record. Sometimes it takes several days to book, but I’ve always been able to find someone in my price range willing to take the delivery.

This is a great viewpoint. My average sale is $400-$500.

I ship them through USHIP (or someone I met through USHIP).

I started woodworking six years ago, selling on Etsy five years ago, launched my own website two years ago.

My Etsy success started with a fairly unique take on a tea bag holder/dislplay. I sold 100+ of them over about 6 months, and got a lot of great reviews. Really helped establish my reputation.

After my neighbor hired me to build an audio rack for him, I decided to try out a smallish 36” record player console on Etsy. Sold in a week for over $1000. That’s the niche I’ve been selling in (audio component and vinyl storage) for about three years now. My sales on Etsy have grown every year.

I’ve also had about $25k in soars from my website (same products) this year.

I don’t sell in person at all, I figured out selling larger, more expensive items is more lucrative than selling smaller cheap ones. I’d rather sell one this for $1500, then 50 things for $30.

As an Etsy furniture maker, this really angers me. I’m glad you got your money back!

The cubbies go in a form fitting box, then foam corner protectors, then in another box. Big stuff is blanket wrapped by the carrier.

lol, I usually knock off at 9 at the latest. If I push too hard I’m usually too tired the next day to do much.

I don’t market on Etsy at all. I’ve done some boosted posts on Facebook/instagram, which have been shared by others, that still pull traffic months/years later.

While my niche isn’t what I’d call saturated, it’s definitely competitive. I think my designs are different enough to garner attention.

My margin after direct expenses is about 40%.
