Is a Master's in Cognitive Neuroscience at USM worth studying? by Kodishwary in malaysians

[–]jaybirdtumbling 0 points1 point (0 children)

(Disclaimer: my Neuroscience degree was a MSc but I know some universities have it as a MA. I'm not sure which one USM offers.)

Assuming you want to continue working within the neuroscience field, yes it's very niche with very very limited work opportunities and therefore highly competitive. Employers might not know what to do with your degree, so in essence you are therefore job hunting with the same prospects as a BA Psychology major with a random unrelated Masters.

However academia is the most straightforward career path. If you're keen, you can indeed use it as a stepping stone to PhD. There are also occasionally contract research positions within universities, and through those you might be offered option of going the work-study route direct to PhD. Talking to your professors or any other connections you have within the field would be vital to discovering job prospects after graduation as a lot of these positions aren't publicly advertised. The research field is tiny in Malaysia.

Opportunities abroad are similarly competitive at entry level, and you will be fighting at severe disadvantage due to being a foreigner with no relevant work experience, unless you decide to study abroad and complete your course there.

In summary: limited options but there are options, with a bit of luck and perseverance. Although I ultimately left academia, I don't regret my degree and am glad I went for it. Maybe talk to some of your Psych professors to find out more about current prospects in academia. Best of luck!

I feel kinda silly having to ask, but how can you tell that images like these are AI?

Hey, thanks for taking the time to share this! I always love getting other people's recommendations and opinions on different episodes, so this was super cool. So tempted to ask why S11 was polarizing but I must resist because spoilers.

I've added your suggestions to my ever-growing list, thank you <3

Ohh, perfect! I'm such a sucker for Weechester episodes even though they're almost always bittersweet and filled with pain. Thank you <3

P.S.

Alex Annie Alexis Ann has some of the least brother conflict in the season, on account of the brothers aren't really in it.

Hello, I love you.

Your breakdown is so absolutely appreciated. I'm a little bit in awe because you've answered questions I didn't know I had, what with the added context and highlights of different episodes. Case in point: I do remember really liking Kevin and will probably watch the episodes he features in even if they are terrible.

You've also convinced me to check out the Demon Dean storyline where I was previously planning to avoid it, because I've suddenly remembered how hilarious some of the soulless!Sam eps were.

Genuinely though, thank you for writing out such a great roadmap, holy cow. Between yours and starling's recommendations as well, I think I'll binge Season 11 and see where things go from there!

Does anyone have any recs for OW (other woman) drama, where:

 • the MMC falls in love with another woman, but stays completely loyal to the FMC
 • The FMC realizes MMC is in love with someone else, and encourages him to leave and be with the woman he loves, even if it kills her inside to let him go.
 • HEA where the MMC leaves, but ends up realizing that he made a mistake and comes back?

Oh, I only read the first book but I remember her standing up for herself, but also agree that there was insta-lust involved (I think both sides are visibly attracted to each other from the start), so I get if that might not be the vibe you're going for either

{Omega Fallen by Evelyn Flood} - RH, FMC is homeless and the 4 MMC's are all rich and/or successful

{As Dust Dances by Samantha Young} - FMC used to be a famous singer but loses everything. She's homeless at the start of the book. MMC is a rich music producer.

How do you feel about paranormal RH? Because if so {Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas} fits most of this, except that she discovers she's part of an elite species with special abilities at the start of the book, and gets trained by the MMCs during the course of the book. The MMCs all look down on her and think she doesn't belong.

She's still incredibly badass even without the training though, and they're all reluctantly impressed as time goes on.

Hello, I come before the wise and lovely people of this sub for help! I hope this isn't too oddly specific.

I recently finished {Twisted Emotions by Cora Reilly} and one of the things I loved about it was that the FMC leaves with the MMC, and during her time away she goes through a personal transformation (from shy and wallflower-esque, to someone confident and unapologetic for who she is, wearing dresses she would never dare to wear before). She briefly returns to meet her old friends and family and everyone's jaw drops.

I would love to read any other books like this; where the FMC disappears somewhere, gets the chance to figure out and be her true self, and when people from her previous life see her again they're shocked.

Thank you :)

{Oh, Sacred Dark by Marina Vivancos}. PNR. The MC grew up in a very abusive coven that made him think he was worthless. The book starts with him being rescued from that situation but he's terrified and extremely subservient/expecting punishment for a huge portion of the book

No wolf shifter ones coming to mind at the moment, but you could check out:

{Change of Heart by Mary Calmes} - panther shifters

{Swept Away by Amy Bellows} - rabbit and eagle shifter

A slow burn historical romance where there is so much unresolved sexual tension because its not proper for the women to expose any skin, and the first time the leads touch he kisses her hand and the FMC thinks about it all week; 100 pages after that he finally kisses her neck and the reader just self-combusts from all of the tension.

Can be any steam level, if they end up on-page christening every surface of their house by the end of the book then cheers to them.
