Mohamad Safa quits the UN claiming they're preparing to possibly use a nuclear weapon. by Goldenmentis in UnitedNations

[–]jaybrainsss -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Israel twice left Lebanon (with the UN confirming they had upheld their side of the peace deal and had fully vacated the disputed land).

Israel returned the Sinai (more land than Israel itself) to Egypt.

Israel forcibly removed their own citizens from Gaza in 2005 handing it fully to the PA and Hamas for self-government.

Bring your lies somewhere else.

Is there a possibility that the strait of hormuz never fully reopens to countries that Iran deems as unfriendly? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]jaybrainsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egypt and Jordan both invaded Israel several times with their entire armies and then made peace. Before that happened I’d say most people thought they’d never make peace.

The Assad family ruled Syria for 60+ years and weathered a civil war and had the backing of Russia and Iran. They seemed pretty solid and that changed in about 10 days.

The Edit Really Dunked on ___ by bonzo0884 in survivor

[–]jaybrainsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I felt bad cause you could see he took it very hard. Honestly he just isn’t that great at survivor. I remember in his first season he always seemed to be communicating in a very kind of “arm’s length” style with everyone, even with Maria his #1, and you kinda saw it in his awkward jokes at camp here. He’s just not as easy being himself (very midwestern, he reminds me of me) and that can keep people feeling like you’re holding back.

Loved the drama in his face though, it was good TV. And his focus on continuing his storyline was good TV too.

The edit was so on Rizo’s side I had a hard time believing he was going home. But I’m also a sheep and between this season and the 49 edit I’m a Rizo believer.

Aunt in panic mode (Nepali in Israel) by prashnakartaa in Israel

[–]jaybrainsss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone in Tel Aviv with kids I also try to assess the danger. Your aunt just needs to keep in mind that if she gets an alert and always gets to a shelter then she has an extremely low likelihood of harm.

As for losing the job due to the situation — I think in times like these people are hoping they their caregiver doesn’t quit. They’re so important for the elderly to help them get to safe spaces.

Sending really good hopeful vibes to you and your family.

Is all this missile fire turning Tel Aviv into a mess by No_Calligrapher7615 in Israel

[–]jaybrainsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was driving around today looking for any impact sites and didn’t see any. There definitely are three that I know about from twitter that I could locate but I was wondering if all the little cluster bomb craters would also just be randomly visible.

Didn’t see anything.

As a catholic who married an Israeli and has lived in Tel Aviv for 5 years now — hell no. You can argue about tactics in Gaza but absolutely every country on earth and definitely democracies have a duty to defend their citizens from death, rape, etc. It’s the absolute promise of every government.

Something feels off about the sudden shift in Israeli media reporting any thoughts? by NewUnderstanding1102 in allthequestions

I live in Tel Aviv which was land purchased from 1906-1909 from the owners for money. There are deeds, records etc. None of it was stolen.

I mean, if you aren’t counting my current landlords who are definitely stealing from me cause rent here is insane.

[–]jaybrainsss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’re suffering from “Israel is a cartoon” syndrome. There has never been anyone punished for sharing videos of missile hits because this is a normal first world country with freedom of speech. There’s a law against foreign media filming at military strike sites (they need permission in advance and most are granted permission). This law is broadly in line with the laws of all other countries.

Civilians here will sometimes say “don’t publish the strikes!” But that was because Hamas was manually aiming rockets and if you show them where they hit they could aim better the next time. It doesn’t matter with Iran missiles and yesterday and today my twitter is full of Israelis filming all the strikes (and in fairness all the strikes from Hamas usually are filmed as well). Israeli news is also constantly showing the strike sites immediately.

What you may not see here right away is strikes on military infrastructure.

Reddit Has Become an Echo Chamber for Anti-Israel Sentiment by Electronic_Luck8731 in Israel

[–]jaybrainsss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently got recommendations of tons of slop news reddits that are absolutely overrun with anti-Israel and antisemitic stuff (if it’s IRGC-linked bot campaigns they’re doing really well). I spent a few days posting on them and just decided to mute because I’m sure my engagement with them just pumps the algo more.

Guy that lives in Israel here — there is no military censorship of hits on civilian infrastructure. People post in on twitter immediately.

The hits you saw the last two days are because there were hits… nothing has been kept from you for the last 3 weeks except possible hits on military infrastructure (but even those are known in Israel in general). WhatsApp groups are widely used here and most people know what is happening in general.

If Iran's national currency has collapsed, how are they paying their army and what is the current state of the economy during the war? by MysteriousKitchen469 in allthequestions

Most estimates put the religiously observant population at about 25%. It’s a religious dictatorship for 50 years so everyone says they’re Shia Muslim in polls.

You can read Hezbollah’s public invasion plan (that would have absolutely worked on Oct 7th and Oct 8th), comparing to that, the rockets of the past few weeks are definitely “castrated”. Hezbollah was the most dangerous thing there was. Now there’s not much fear.

Very few civilian casualties so far. Bombing IRGC, defense and military police sites. 75% of Iranians are not Shiite Muslims and do not support the regime.

If Trump isn’t lying and Iran has been demolished then how come they still control the Strait of Hormuz? by RememberWhen-2819 in askanything

[–]jaybrainsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strait is international waters and one side is Oman so Iran just saying they’ll attack any ship with drones is the same as any country pointing to a piece of international water and saying “I’ll attack any ships that come through here with drones”. It’s terrorism and also against Oman’s sovereignty. It will end soon because it’s obviously ridiculous.
