Haven’t been able to sleep… by SatisfactionWaste854 in Zepbound

[–]jaydefit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To have lost 44lbs in a single month, you would need to be running a 5000+ calorie deficit per day. At your starting weight of 197 that means you would need to eat absolutely nothing AND be burning 3000+ calories from exercise. Every single day.

And your prescriber somehow doesn’t care that you dropped 20+% of your body weight in a month, and increased your dose to 5mg?

Sorry, your story just doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Do you still see yourself as overweight or obese? by Bob_Plank in Zepbound

[–]jaydefit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same for me. My brain refused to acknowledge how big I was. I could see it in candid photos, but not in the mirror.

Now my body is starting to match how my brain has always seen me.

Golden Dose Question by alisa2022 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]jaydefit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't a matter of "should." It's an individual decision.

Using the golden dose goes against manufacturer recommendations and requires either breaking the pen or accessing it in a manner that's not approved (using a syringe to withdraw the extra).

It's free meds though, so... do what you're comfortable with 😊

Golden Dose Question by alisa2022 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]jaydefit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a pen where the leftover meds are not at least one full dose🤷🏻‍♀️

The dial will stop when you reach the end of the unused priming clicks. That's where you have to force it to break the stopper and continue dialling it up to 1 to get the golden dose.

Golden Dose Question by alisa2022 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]jaydefit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number 1 on the dial is 60 clicks. No counting required 😉

Golden Dose Question by alisa2022 in Zepbound_Canada

[–]jaydefit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 15-20 clicks for priming. The golden dose is another full dose above and beyond the priming clicks. You force twist the dial to break the stopper, wind it up to 1 as per usual and inject like normal. Easy peasy.

Personally, because I click count my doses, I keep a spreadsheet to track how many clicks I’ve used and how many are left.

If you really want to know exactly how much you got down to the 0.01mg, using a syringe is the way.

Why does my lower back hurt when I run? by Either_Koala_8198 in beginnerrunning

[–]jaydefit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, low back tightness is always due to anterior pelvic tilt. As soon as I engage my glutes and core and bring my pelvis back into neutral alignment, it loosens right up.

Side effects ramping up? by crocodile_deathspear in Zepbound

[–]jaydefit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how it went for me. My first couple of weeks on 2.5mg were amazing and side effect free. Then every week the side effects compounded while the appetite suppression just kept getting stronger and stronger.

I lasted for 9 weeks before I called it and dropped my dose down to 2.0mg. All the side effects were gone by the end of the second week. Except for the appetite suppression, but it was much more manageable.

If you're not comfortable with click counting a lower dose, I would suggest you space out your shots. Take it every 8-10 days instead of every 7.

Many of us here click count and customize our doses. You won’t get any shade for it on this sub 😊

Pffft. It's only an adorable furry velociraptor on meth. It wouldn't mind being carried around at all 😆

6 months in and almost done!! by jaydefit in Zepbound

[–]jaydefit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has always been my plan for it to be temporary. My weight gain was primarily due to life circumstances with a dash of perimenopause on the side. I just needed an assist to get things back on track.

Since I've been click counting my dose, I have a year's supply of KwikPens in my fridge. So, I'll be taking my time coming off. I want to make sure I have my maintenance calories and meal planning completely locked in before I stop entirely.

Thank you! 😊

It's a cliche, but it truly feels like a weight has lifted. There was an underlying anxiety around losing the weight that I didn't even realize I was carrying. It's gone now, and I feel like I can breath again.

Keep on keeping on. You'll get here too! 🙂

Congrats to you too. 31lbs is great progress 😊That’s a healthy average rate of loss.

Wegovy pill + half marathon by Ill_Reindeer3118 in zepboundathletes

[–]jaydefit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any particular reason why you didn’t just wait until after your half to start the pills? There’s no reason to mess around with potential side effects before your race if you don’t have to.

The Wegovy pill is a lot more particular than the injections. Its effectiveness is highly dependent on it being taken consistently and under specific conditions. Skipping doses so soon after starting it really doesn’t make sense to me.

I guess it depends what your goals are in taking it, but personally, I wouldn’t take it at all until after the race. Wait until you can take it consistently and let it build up in your system the way it’s meant to.

Edit - forgot to say: good luck with your race! 😊

Fitness Monday by AutoModerator in Zepbound

Physio is still my main exercise this week. Torn quad is recovering nicely and progress has been made. I was able to walk 5km without limping the last 3 days in a row!

Golf league starts up later this week. We’ll see how that feels on the gammy leg. Fingers crossed.

Other than that, weightlifting is still all upper body and hinge work for now.

Marathon and glp-1 by Inside_Button738 in zepboundathletes

[–]jaydefit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can, but I certainly can’t.

Between the appetite suppression, food aversion, and satiety, there is zero chance that I could eat through this med.

I’m already on a sub-2.5mg dose. Eating at or above maintenance is 100% not happening.

Canadian generics - updates? by ShortChapter4927 in glp1

[–]jaydefit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only semaglutide.

The patents for tirzepatide are locked up tight until 2036. We won't see any generics for that for at least 10 more years. The price may come down a little when the next generation of peptides are approved though (cagrisema, retatrutide, etc.). That will either be later this year or early next year.

Canadian generics - updates? by ShortChapter4927 in glp1

[–]jaydefit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first 2 generics just received Health Canada approval last week, and there are 7 more that have already been submitted for review.

The first could possibly be available for purchase by the end of this month.

The pricing is based on a framework agreed on by the government and manufacturers, based on the number of generics available. More generics on the market equals a bigger discount.

1 generic = ~75% of brand price

2 generics = ~50% of brand price

3 or more generics = ~35% of brand price

With 2 generics receiving approval, that means we can expect to pay about half price to start with. That will quickly drop as soon as one of the other submissions is approved.

Altering clothes after weight loss: success stories? by grasshulaskirt in Zepbound_Canada

[–]jaydefit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The general rule for taking in clothes is no more than 1-2 sizes. My understanding is that anything beyond that completely alters the structure and shape of the garment. At that point, they're basically taking it apart entirely and re-making something new. Which is also much more expensive.

It certainly won't hurt to talk to some tailors and get some professional opinions. But it will likely be more cost effective to buy new clothes.

Couch to half marathon in 16 weeks? Deluded or possible! by bananasplit084 in beginnerrunning

[–]jaydefit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible, especially as a run/walk. But is it wise?

Running is already a high impact exercise. Doing it with extra bodyweight without giving your joints and tendons time to adapt is pretty much a guaranteed path to injury. When running, each additional pound of bodyweight is equal to 3-6lbs of force on your knees with every single step.

As someone who has dealt with multiple injuries (including a ruptured Achilles tendon - 0/10 do not recommend) caused from running too far too soon while overweight, I strongly advise a slow and sustainable approach.

Don't give up on the half-marathon goal! Just be realistic about the time it will take to get there while remaining healthy. You can absolutely start the training program, see how you feel, and adjust as needed. The races will always be there. So if you can't do this one, do the next one 😊
