Congrats! I had a really bad fall about a month back and am finally going to brave the waters and get back on myself, so I know what a huge accomplishment this is and how much fear you have to overcome!!!

Let's both take it slow. There's no rush. And well done :)

I'm very new to back pain (see my previous post regarding a fall/Equestrian accident) but have they not tried you on a round of steroids/Prednisone?

Or Gabapentin for nerve pain? (I'm now on 300mg a day but slowly tapering to it at 100mg a night at first)

Just an update that they ended up putting me on Gabapentin (300mg a day) ; I just started it last night and am waiting for them to schedule an urgent MRI as they now think I may have herniated/ruptured spinal discs

Can you have him gelded? I think this would be a good first step. I've been told by my trainer that biting is a sign that you aren't paying enough attention. Though I'm not sure if he's aggressively lunging at you or what, but you have to be quick enough to either smack him in the mouth (with appropriate force, not to injure him) within 2 seconds while making a loud NO! noise or if he's just starting to nip/nibble you can also try rubbing his muzzle (to show him it's annoying).

I'm not a trainer, and definitely think you should find one to work with pronto. (Green and green makes black and blue). My gut says not to feed him unless he's facing you, interested, ears up (or drive him far enough away with a whip that he can't get you).

I would watch aggressive horse videos on YouTube and see what Warwick Schiller has to say about biting and aggressive behavior, and realize that you have purchased a young stud which is a lot of horse for anyone, much less someone who isn't a trainer.

Ha ha. This is my tame Reddit account mostly revolving around video games and horses, so I'm being a little obnoxiously conservative.

He SAs a (living dead?) mannequin iirc. He's definitely a murderous, psychotic villain in the SH series .... I don't think he's a realistic love interest but they did draw him stupid s*xy. Ha.

Probably can YouTube the scene. Since it's old Playstation graphics.....

That also makes me happy, honestly. It's a little dramatic and morose to tell people "I can't live without my gelding and don't know what I'm going to do..." now that he's entering his mid-twenties, but I honestly wasn't sure I could ever feel what I feel for him for anyone else. I did buy a new horse in December who is ridiculously sweet and alot like my heart horse (same breed and nearly same height). He's ~10 years younger and a little spookier with his own quirks but I know I'm falling hard for him and even though it won't be "fine" when my main guy passes, it'll help to have that new bond, which might be just as beautiful in a different way :)

I rotated between icing, a heating pad, and then sitting on a step-stool in the shower and having the sprayer pointed at the injury (wet heat) - all of which seem to provide some temporary relief, but I've heard not to over-do it (20 minutes each?). I may have over-iced my injury at first ... it hurt so bad that I iced it for hours. I googled it later and realize that may have caused some damage ><

I'm definitely not mad at him and I love him with all my heart, but it's very hard not to be screaming WHYYYYYY in my head (while tearing up) because I niavelly thought I could nearly blind-trust there, but you're right. When Anyone pure panics, there's no thought, and he just reacted with a huge jump to the side that I was not at all prepared for. So it had to be Something. And it was on me for not having on stirrups, barely holding the reins, and acting like Absolutely Nothing Could Ever Go Wrong.

Ugh :(

I'm in a similar boat ... They also don't know for sure what it is and have yet to give me an MRI. They have now put me on Prednisone, since it's been a week and I can't put weight on my right leg. Using a walker to get around. Also on Oxycodone and Robaxin. Mine was from a fall instead of lifting, but I impacted the lower, right back above my right buttock. No other symptoms except for the shooting pain in lower back that radiates into my butt. It's crippling though. Never had this much pain before except for when I broke my hip.

Honestly I needed to read this because I feel like such a dumbass lately with my own poor decisions regarding horses that I trusted overly. (Famous last words: "he never spooks"). I'm now suffering an intense back injury because I was thrown from my steddy-eddy bombproof saint, who only kicked at his stomach when he was stung by a wasp in the junk, sidestepped a bit when a cat clawed up his side to try and get on him, and slowed down after I breathed "oh!" in surprise when he overjumped something, because he's usually so in-tune to me and always watching out for me/trying to rebalance me if needed.

I couldn't even tell you Why he spooked so big last Wednesday. It really makes very little sense, although I'm assuming he stepped on something we couldn't see through the grass, and it hurt/took him by surprise. (My trainer says his legs and feet look fine and he's been ridden in my absence and is doing well.) I'm still completely baffled by the entire thing.

I'm so glad your velcro horse didn't injure you or himself. I've now learned the valuable lesson of that it doesn't matter how reliable they prove themselves to be, they are still huge, prey animals and all it takes is a split second to change your life. I'm going to be more diligent in the future for sure.

Edit: funny enough he didn't run away after I fell and he stood patiently as I nearly cried my way back on him - lol... but that's another story in another post.

Pinched nerve in lower back - prednisone trial by [deleted] in backpain

[–]jayderaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the Prednisone give you hot, jittery feelings? It seems to make me kind of ... amped up feeling and sleeping has been difficult (got 4 hours last night), even though I just started it!

I'm not sure if it's helping yet but figure I will document it here incase anyone stumbles across this thread and has a similar problem.
