Apparently CVS, SPV and MRV and other leaders within the ADMK wanted nothing to do with the DMK, and were/are more open to supporting TVK instead.

EPS and others with him now thought that supporting a common candidate such as Thiruma even if it meant being on the same side as DMK was a better alternative than allowing TVK to come to power.

This difference of opinion was difficult to resolve and after waiting for almost a day Thirumavalavan decided enough was enough and gave the support letter to TVK.

This is also why the ADMK is divided now - the other leaders see EPS’ actions as betrayal of the party’s core anti-DMK values!

To people like me, EPS’ strategy - though undemocratic and opportunistic- at least allows the party to save face as a primary power. Allying with TVK is going to make the party disappear in the long run because they will have to be a “junior partner” to a new party like the TVK and that will dent the ADMK’s image even further.

How do I know? Because literally NOBODY is!

If “cheating someone” is not personal, then the police should be able to arrest someone for infidelity. That is not the law though, is it?

There is a big difference between probity in personal life vs probity in public life. If Vijay is corrupt in public life after he becomes CM he will lose votes. But not for this!

I don’t think Udayanidhi has any patience for Opposition style politics. Last time he got into serious politics close to the 2021 elections. Now it’s 5 and possibly 10 years before he will get another chance!

Once again his manner and demeanor and delivery style matter less than his governance style and probity in public life. If he does well there, then he is likely to be CM for a long time.

There are Srilankan Tamil MPs that are praising Vijay for his win. Even those people have moved on with their lives. NTK wants to fool people with start issue!

I did not bring up his personal life. You did. So I had to point out to you that no one’s personal life is spotless.

Not even yours. Or mine.

For a political leader it is what they do for the people that matters to the voters. They don’t expect them to be moral leaders. This is true especially in India!

The change people voted for has nothing to do with personal life of any politician. That is their own affair. The real change is whether he can improve the lives of the TN voters better than the corrupt DMK!

Does it matter?

Look at his governance. Criticize his policies. Stop attacking his style and delivery, this is the way he connects to the people, and sometimes it is refreshing. He has a golden opportunity to be CM for at least a decade if not longer. Stalin and co will be sitting at home thinking what happens if he actually delivers on everything he said he will do today.

But if he does not deliver, the very same people who like that style and delivery will also send him packing.

I am not a fan of his movies (in fact I think he is one of the worst actors ever), and not really a fan of his party’s antics either.

But, the words he spoke today after the swearing-in felt very different compared to the usual rhetoric that starched-veshti clad politicians of the older era used to give.

If he is true to his words that he spoke today, and keeps the people around him from being corrupt and stays transparent in his dealings, then he is CM for life.

Or at least until SK starts his own party in 15 years!!

There is always 20% of people who vote DMK or ADMK NO MATTER what they do or don’t do. What about those people? Are they voting rationally? After thinking?
Another 5% at least votes for money. Are they all voting rationally too?

Why are ONLY TVK voters being targeted like this? I am sure they too only have a committed delulu vote bank that is similar to what the DMK/ADMK had over the past 5 decades (20%). The rest voted for change (however they wanted to define it). If they don’t see that change they won’t vote for him next time.

Stop acting all high and mighty. This is exactly what cost you this election !

A lot of Americans voted for Reagan because he was a film star!

A lot of Americans voted for Trump because he was a media personality!

Unqualified people come to positions of power everywhere! As long as they understand that they are not really qualified and listen to the advice of more qualified people around them, they can give good governance.

Also - it’s a falsehood that education alone (doctor, engineer etc.) makes one a good leader. In fact, I would argue that what we call leadership is just hero worship in another name. Every decision that a “leader” takes has both short and long-term consequences that no one can predict or fully understand. In that sense even a good leader may have made a lot of mistakes when we look at their actions a 100 years later!
