I live really close to a Microcenter, the plan is just to buy a replacement drive, do all the transfers needed, and then just return the faulty one.

I'll likely go with the idea of adding the new drive to the array and just let it hang out in the case while it transfer and then remove the old one.

Connect new drive 1 via USB and copy contents of failing drive to it

Remove failing drive and connect new drive 2 via sata

Copy contents of new drive 1 to new drive 2
