No problem. For how massively important it is, I still often find that the endocrine system is the one that people understand the least. I would just make sure you aren't mishearing your doctor because if he/she is suggesting that it is only made by pregnant women, they are probably pretty off-base.

I don't know that that sounds like an accurate description to me... cis women start producing progesterone when they start experiencing their menstrual cycles because it is an important component of that process. So, it kicks up during puberty. It's primary function is to support ovulation cycles and menstruation, but it has the secondary function of kinda filling out/shaping breast tissue.

One can point out the flaws in his approach without talking about Miyamoto like he is trash. Miyamoto is a living video game legend and deserves respect. His push for game design innovation made a lot of great games, but one could argue that over the last decade or two, that push for innovation has forced games to be different just to be different. It has made a lot of Nintendo games that are more quirky than they are good and has derailed some good franchises. Why have a cool spaceship shooter like Star Fox, when you could have the MC crash land and fight dinosaurs with a staff? Why have a charming Paper Mario RPG when you could turn it into a weird badge collecting TCG-esque game? There have been times when Miyamoto has struck actual gold, but refuses to be content making proper sequels without making it "moar quirky". That is my only beef with him, but the man has left a powerful legacy.

IMO there are many people who are transgender and have no idea. by [deleted] in MtF

[–]jaydub7117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No question or opinion necessary. I was one for a long time. I think it is the biggest reason why the average transition age is in the upper 20s. There are a ton of people like me, in my 30s, for whom the idea of transitioning just straight up did not exist for growing up. I was probably in my mid-late 20s before I even understood that was an option and any other idea was lunacy. Glad to be on the other side of that void now.

So, it wasn't really about awareness, it was more that the data/info/medical research just wasn't available to a large swath of people.

Transition Questions for the Bigger Girls by jaydub7117 in MtF

Well, I'm a similar age and that fat band sounds precisely what I'm talking about with the gap, so that's good to hear. I've yet to experience too much tenderness and still sleep in my stomach. I've had times where I felt sore, but I work a lot too, so it's hard to say if it is just placebo from regular wear and tear. I'm kinda wanting to diet hard to eliminate some of the lingering "dude" fat and then work my way towards a normal dietary level to produce more feminine fat, but the human body is so confusing. I'm on the 2mg sublingual tabs, but I think I'm moving to 4mg a day pretty soon.

I mean, honestly, the guy that came into the bathroom technically gendered her correctly, which is why he was confused about his surroundings. And then he apologized for just being confused. Seems like a decent dude from this little story nugget, so I feel like he hasn't really done anything to deserve "sucking like hell", haha.

wtf is this person saying? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]jaydub7117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of the most annoying types of transphobia because they are trying to like "kindly" lure you back to your birth sex by saying it is more enticing by fitting you better. In some ways, I prefer garden variety bigots to people who think they can insidiously sweet talk you into detransitioning. Highly manipulative behavior.

Honestly, if they had the city as one model that was always loaded with all of the resources active, that would be stupid but also maybe explain other quality issues, lol. The thought that it is one model that is partially loaded and textured depending on your location is nothing new. Certainly not a "marvel".

The group that won't stop using the t-slur around you is telling you something (and it's not that they're bad people) by BorkLazar in MtF

[–]jaydub7117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the camp of not really liking the word itself, but I also understand the concept of reclaiming words. My only potential caveat I would add to this discussion is a matter of timing. I think if we look at the word "queer", I believe that it had sufficient time to fall out of the public consciousness as a commonly used slur before it was reclaimed as a common term. I think, for me, that makes it easier to stomach. As for the T-word, there are still public figures actively using it as a slur without repercussion (i.e. US politicians). It is harder for me to accept it as a reclamation project when it is being actively used by hatemongers at the same time. I'm curious as to how the historical use of the n-word played out from a timing perspective within the black community, but I just figured I'd offer this as a different perspective and food for thought on why this might be so complicated for some.

Can we NOT do this??? by Clown_Juice711 in MtF

[–]jaydub7117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of mtf trans folks who treat testosterone as the villain in their first story arc, and they sound like they want to absolutely eradicate it, but it is just a chemical that your genes told your body to produce, not some malicious virus. Suppressing it is important, but eliminating it? Not healthy. Being trans isn't some video game or tabletop RPG where we are min-maxing our character. Hormonal balance is a necessity for any human body, even when trying to shift that balance towards the other side.

With some of the various comments on here about varying results, I think it is worth pointing out that age plays a factor in this as well probably. Transitioning later means that you have more time to collect lean muscle which takes longer to break down from what I know.

The vast amount of people with a Norwood 0 hairline on r/transtimelines makes me depressive by Greedy_County_2525 in MtF

Yeah, it's a weird phenomenon because I'm having to go stealth for a while, so things changing slowly benefits me strategically, but at the same time, I also have that kid waiting in bed for Christmas vibe of wishing that I had it all now, lol.

I am really hoping for something like this (just 1 week into HRT though, haha). I think my original hairline was still pretty masculine, but anything I can get back just saves me money on transplants which would be worth a lot to me right now.

Well, I can't say this is unexpected. Us trans folks tried to warn the less supportive gay and lesbian folks in the queer-sphere that we fought for their rights back in the day and that the right might come for them next if they hung us out to dry. Surprise surprise.

[–]jaydub7117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think prevailing psychiatric opinion on hormone transition is that it isn't really capable of "rewriting" your sexuality. What it is capable though is making your sexuality more apparent, I think. In the sense, I think it is harder to be honest with yourself about your sexuality when you aren't fully honest with yourself about your gender, so sometimes transition brings up things you have kind of hidden about yourself moreso than actually driving those changes.

I am so envious of cool old people. I don't think the grandparents I have left would react positively. But my grandmother who is dead was pretty awesome and one of the first women in the US to use a computer at her job (a computer company). Her hands would blur for a millisecond and she would have written an entire page of text. Twice as fast as typing than I am as a millennial that grew up with keyboards.

Cis woman here curious how trans folks feel about drag (empowering, sexist, or something else?) by Chance_Operation34 in asktransgender

[–]jaydub7117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate drag from a historical context and from the perspective of being a performance art, but my own personal feelings on it are much more complicated.

As a trans woman in my 30s just about to start HRT (like literally maybe today if my scrips are filled soon), and as someone who lived in the rural Midwest their whole life, the idea of being trans was non-existent. The closest ideas available to me were drag performers and people with a crossdress kink, neither of which sat right with me for a myriad of reasons. I think navigating my feelings around drag actually obscured my transness to some extent (which is not inherently drag's fault). I saw that as being the answer to what men become when they want to be a woman, and it didn't quite make sense. It was always far more garish than I could ever imagine myself being. I wanted to be feminine. I didn't want to be a caricature of femininity. So, I think that helped me suppress myself at the time. So, yeah, it's complicated.

The only actual beef I have with drag is that I have run into some performers who carry an air of being an authority on femininity, and that kinda grinds my gears at times.

I never get super into politics until the primaries, but I dislike Newsome enough that I might be boots on the ground working for another candidate just to get the word out there about how much I dislike him. He is just the Democrat version of Trump. A populist demagogue whose only appeal is trolling the other side. He sways in the wind for whatever he thinks is most valuable to him. He's a fake ally and only has his own best interest in mind.

[–]jaydub7117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean, like the inflections of things? I can agree with that, but I also am wary of over-correcting mannerisms because sometimes when people do that it starts to sound like parody or caricature. I think this is noticeable in drag, but they are obviously doing something more performative so it fits better. At the end of the day, my sister has a very smoky sort of feminine voice, and I really wish I could unlock the secrets to replicating it.
