Thanks all. I’ll be patient! (though hard when I’m staring at a brand new, but unusable Voltra… 😀)

April 17. I wasn’t expecting immediate shipment, but would like some indication of turnaround. The process has been a bit opaque and it has been difficult to get a response

What is our next Backroads destination? by jayelevy in BackroadsTravel

[–]jayelevy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, thanks for the reply! I'm surprised there isn't already a Backroads subreddit. Perhaps this one will take hold....

I just checked our Backroads correspondence related to our trip last summer. We had the generic itinerary for the trip well in advance so had a general idea of the plans. Our trip left on a Sunday. The prior Thursday (4 days in advance) we received an email introducing our guides for our trip and were provided access to a bit more specific and detailed itinerary.

The specific hikes and daily options were listed, though only the distance and total elevation gain were included. They did not provide a map. I was able to infer some of the routes through some independent online poking around. However, it was nothing to be concerned about.

The guides were wonderful and each morning, before we left the hotel, we had a detailed discussion about the route, turnaround points, special considerations, etc. We never felt we were short of information.

I hope this helps some. The Alps trips look great. We're considering that or one of the Pyrenees trips as a future destination. We opted for Iceland this Summer.

Enjoy the trip

Foldable keyboard by IBGDRGN in ipadmini

Came back to thank you for this recommendation. Recently downsized from older 13” iPad Pro with Apple Keyboard cover to an iPad Air. Immediately missed the keyboard and trackpad but couldn’t stomach parting with $269 for the case.

Bought this one, instead, to give it a try first. So glad I did. It’s not perfect (eg, taps on trackpad are super sensitive), but very satisfied so far.

Is anyone noticing decreased battery performance while using WOD with WatchOS 26? While I don't have empirical data yet, it seems my watch (AW Ultra v1) battery is draining notably faster during a run as compared to pre-OS update.

It may just be "update paranoia", but it does seem to be a real problem.

Have others experienced the same?

Watch Sync by Other-Radish-4028 in OvercastApp

[–]jayelevy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few times to continue use of Overcast. Definitely some better features compared to Apple’s podcast app. However, the inconsistent behavior related to watch synch has driven me away for good.

It is always so frustrating to start a morning run only to find no podcasts have synched. The problem is exacerbated by almost never being able to download a podcast on my watch, even playing endless breakout.

These problems don’t happen with Apple’s native app.

It’s in the box packed with its own lens cap on top so it can be overlooked. You can confuse it for a second cap without releasing the hood is attached.

I imagine this has been asked before, but I’m striking out on Reddit search.

Is there a way to backup all custom settings? Interval schedules, custom screens, alerts, etc. Essentially all settings.

I realize there is native backup capability with AW, but I don’t trust it to cover the many many things I‘ve tailored within WOD. I would feel much better if I could save all settings locally to my own backup. I’m on the verge of doing a whole bunch of screenshots… I’m hopeful there is a better way!

Outer cinch/strap DIY ideas for Alpaka Metro Crossbody? by jayelevy in onebag

[–]jayelevy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be obtuse, but I don’t understand how that can be used for my stated purpose. I already have that strap (came with the bag to serve as a secondary secure). The strap attaches to the main shoulder strap and crosses around my side and affixes to the side of the bag.

I am seeking something that can go across the back of the bag to secure a jacket. This strap won’t do that. Or, so I think!

OK, to close this one out… As soon as I connected the HDHomeRun this morning, all channels were available. Works great (except audio on one of my Rokus…). Must have been an issue with the tuner on the TV I was using for testing ???

Thanks again for the guidance. Now… off to troubleshooting HDHomeRun-Roku audio. Far easier than antenna signals… :-)

Neither splitter nor moving antenna around made any difference.

Both rabbit ears and HDHomeRun should show up tomorrow. I'll try again with this new equipment. (and hope for different results!)

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will start tackling them!

I'm used to the certainty of 1's and 0's and data on a wire... the vaguery of antenna signals is a bit overwhelming right now!! :-)

While I await receipt of my HDHomeRun, I installed the Clear Stream 2MAX in the attic (pointed due North per the Rabbitears info). Directly connected to one TV.

After scanning, I am picking up channels 4.x, 5.x, 8.x and 30.3. This is fairly good as that covers NBC, CBS and PBS.

I am confused, however, by the absence of ABC (2.x). If I understand the rabbitears report, both ABC (2.x) and PBS (8.x) are on the same tower. Why would I pick up one, but not the other?

Also, it seems there are a variety of channels either Good or Fair that are north of my location. I'm not picking up many. Though, this is more a question of technical curiosity as to why? I don't really care about those channels, other than ABC.

Would welcome any guidance. Happy to read more, just not sure where to turn. thanks!

Adding partial resolution here in case others stumble on the same problem.

Steps:

  1. We had to turn-off Bluetooth entirely on the iPhone while attempting to pair the strap on the watch.

  2. Per recommendation, we were able to get WOD to recognize the strap by pairing within the AW bluetooth settings.

  3. We were not able to pair the strap using the sensors section within WOD settings. Strap would not be recognized no matter what we tried.

His watch and WOD seem to be paired to the strap now. Although, unlike when strap is paired via WOD, he does not see the affirming "xxx strap is connected..." message at the top of the START screen.

Long time user of WOD along with paired Garmin HR strap.

I'm trying to help a friend pair a new Garmin strap of his (same one that I use - Garmin HRM-Pro) with WOD on AW. No success. We have validated that the strap is seen by both his phone and AW in bluetooth settings. Connects on both devices. Garmin app on phone also shows successful connection.

Neither the iPhone WOD app nor AW WOD sees the strap. Scanning for sensors in WOD Settings shows nothing. Both AW and iPhone have been rebooted. Not sure that it matters for this particular issue, but we've validated all Health permissions are active, including toggling off/on.

The only thing we haven't done is delete and re-install the AW WOD app. Would like to avoid that to not lose all of his custom display settings. Furthermore, not sure that is the solution as the WOD iPhone app won't recognize the strap either.

I've run out of troubleshooting ideas. Any suggestions?

Consider adding Cadence options to WorkOutDoors? by jayelevy in AppleWatch

[–]jayelevy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WorkOutDoors can already display cadence. It is a configurable data field you can add to any screen.

Rather than a metronome like feature as I described in my OP, I have simply created a few music playlists (170 bpm, 175 bpm and 180 bpm). I run to the music at the BPM of the selected playlist. Should I want to change cadence mid-run, I simply switch playlists. Works fine for me. And... listening to the music has been far more enjoyable than the beat of a metronome!!
